Re: [ranchos] Re: Ax List: First Notice - doi: January 31, 2006--happy new year!

Connie. . .you did the major thing I wanted and that was communication. If you need longer okay no problem, but if you want to put together a simple Word File or even if you want to use your un-updated work on your genealogy program to create a Genealogy report that would be okay for now. You decide. thanks for showing an interest in the group. I'm glad  you find it of value.

What I did was simply export out a text file of the Ahnantafels for
my four grandparents' ancestors. Since my grandparents (and all of
their ancestors) are no longer living, there are no living people in
the file. I think what is of interest to others in the group would
be back a couple centuries at least so leaving out the last century
is not a big deal.

Ok, Joseph, I know I'm on the list..and I won't offer any excuse. :-

I've just been avoiding doing it because I don't know how to and I
thought it would take up a considerable amount of time to figure it

out.

I do lots with computers, but in all my years of research I have

never

uploaded genealogy files! (Believe it or not!) Also, I have many

living

individuals on my tree & don't know how to block them. Finally, I

have

only 1 tree that includes everyone and it's terribly outdated. I

know

this is probably not the best way to do things, but I used the

software

at the beginning to simply help me sort people. Once I got so many
others, I got so far behind in data entry that the tree I have is

years

behind my current information. Truth is, I've been working so

deeply on

the extractions and on Spanish research in Pamplona, that I've

totally

neglected updating my tree.

Nonetheless, I promise to make a serious effort this month to get

all

this done. I'm assuming you've provided an instruction page

somewhere

on how to get this done and I will do my best to get through it.

Thanks for reminding me!

Subject: [ranchos] Ax List: First Notice - doi: January 31, 2006--

happy

new year!

Happy New Year. . .as is the tradition I'm going to start 2006 off
right. You all probably know that I run a tight ship when it comes

to

the very basics of this group and the rediculously easy two
requirements: 1) do you own work and 2) Submit a representative

tree to

the group from our target area.
                                                         [no

gedcoms or

living individuals in the tree].

Well periodically I send out my Ax list. The Ax list is those folks

that

have joined but haven't submitted their genealogies. For the first

few

notices I don't get specific I figure you know who you are so let

it be

just a notice. Later I'll get specific and as the "Ax Day" (January

31,

2006) draws near you will definitely know you are about to be cut

from

the list.

Big Secret: If you want to be spared the Ax please communicate with

me

(makas@n...). . .thats right just toss me an email and say, "Orale
Chavo, let me tell you whats going on with me. I am swamped and

need

more time, say another 6 months." My answer to a simple request like
that would be a simple, "Pues suguro que si. pero despues de

7/31/2006

you're going to be in a situation I can't remedy. So I'd suggest

you get

me "something" representative of your ties to our area of research

by

then, okay primo."

Now there are a couple of people in the group that I've let in

because

they have "strong" feelings that they are tied to our area but

haven't

actually made the connection. These cases are special exceptions

and all

I would ask is that they continue trying to make the connection.

I guess the whole point of this is stagnancy. I don't want folks to

be

stagnant. . .if we call ourselves "serious" researchers, well I

don't

think we would be doing nothing to advance our work. Well now that
brings me to a new requirement I'm thinking of adding. Well

probably not

a requirement but a suggestion. I think that everyone should
occassionally add a little something to their "files" or "online

work"

(links). I for one am seriously guilty and need to resubmit all

my .rtf

files as the ones currently submitted have had much more work done

to

them.

Anyway that last one is not a requirement of the group but like I

said a

suggestion, lets have it a stong suggestion.

thanks,
