Hi Emile. The two "round things" under the crown are the world hemispheres, East and West. The one on the right represents Europe and the one on the left the Americas. That's the reason for the handshake between the two worlds. The Lion is the symbol of Spain, and the alligator represents the Americas, all under the watchful eye of God and the Holy Trinity (the triangle with the eye in the middle). Rgds, Bill Figueroa.

What in the world are those two round things under the crown?
Thank you for posting all that interesting info. We can all benefit from learning about heraldry in our ancestry. The maps are amazing, giving us an insight into how our ancestors found the New World and where they came from in the old.
