There are a number of books written by a local historian in Tlaltanango,
Zacatecas by the name of Bernardo Carlos Casas:
Tlaltenango : una ciudad amurallada (1986)
Semblanza historica de la parroquia de Tlaltenango : 1544-1991 (1991)
Historia de Colotlán (1991)
Has anyone ever seen or read these books? Does anyone know of any other
microhistories of the towns in the “three-fingers” region of Jalisco or
of Southern Zacatecas?
Una Ciudad Amurallada
I have read this book which is a microhistory of Tlaltenango. It has several credits to my late cousin Amador Sandoval Rodriguez whom I considered a learned historian. He introduced me to the book. His knowledge and help in knowing our family history and the history of Tlaltenango was invaluable.
It mentions many of the early families in the region. It makes a minor reference to my third gggrandfather, Telesforo Gonzalez Miramontes who passed away from fever in 1879 and was buried in the Panteon de San Francisco. The book quotes (17th Century era) archives (stored in Guadalajara) comments describing minor legal issues addressed by what I would say were circuit judges who would rule on disputes between the indigneous population and the Spaniards.
There is an early map/layout depicted of Tlaltenango and of course a lot more information in this book.
