My cousin is visiting Teocaltiche this November. He is researching the family surnames: Lopez, Martinez, Reyes; and places: Rancho Lo De Carrera, Villa Hidalgo (Paso De Sotos), Teocaltiche, Lagos de Moreno. He will be looking for marraige, christening, birth and death records. Are there any tips members can offer him? Thank you, L.Newman
Teocaltiche
In Teocaltiche...
In Teocaltiche you will not be allowed to handle the church records, you
will have to submit a list of names and dates that you are interested in.
Personnel there are very courteous and helpful, they will tell you when to
come back to pick up whatever copies of documents you request. Do not
expect to get results the same day you request them, most of the time it
will take a couple of days or longer.
The main Plaza is undergoing some remodeling, and at the present time, most
of the ground covering is being replaced. Lot of construction and
beautification work is under way and it look like all the work might not get
finished for the "11 de Noviembre" fiesta.
Suggest to your cousin a side trip to Santa Ana to visit Santo Toribio
Romo's Church, just outside of Jalostotitlan. Jalos is just about 40 minutes
from Teocaltiche and also about the same distance to San Juan de Los Lagos.
Both side trips are very intersting , enjoyable and doable in one day.

Teocaltiche visit
Um, Los Altos is beautiful, he prob wont be able to go everywhere, theres just so much. As to Teocaltiche, visit the local church,
if you have the exact date you can get an official copy of the record which is nice to have. I descend from the same De Soto family of Teocaltiche. They are the first family to have known live in the settlement known as Paso de Soto and to the north in Calvillo there is also another town called Arroyo de Soto. My ancestor Arcadia de Soto came from "a distuingished'' alteno family. Segun su padre don Mateo de Soto had much influence in Teocaltiche and Calvillo where the family owned much land. According to my grandfather don Mateo de Soto lived in a nice house accross the church in the plaza, not sure if the original house still stands? He doesnt know which house exactly his grandfather is a son of dona Arcadia. This is where the Camino Soto family came from; when don Mariano de Camino y Martinez married dona Arcadia de Soto y Frausto. Lagos is very nice!!!! Make sure to have that as a must. One of the most important Spanish families of Teocaltiche would be los Villalobos and
Chaves y Fragoso. The Chaves owned a lot of Teocaltiche not sure if its the hacienda San Marcos? I also descend from this family. If he is interested in more recent ancestors try visiting el Registro Civil. Aguas is about an hour northeast nice place. Try some cheese in Tepa and some bocadillos from San Juan. They prob have something as regards to a festival in Nov in southern Los Altos. I lovethe melecoton from Jalos. Los Altos is the best place in Mejico, the food is great, dancing is fun and remember to have a great time. Hope this helps!!! -Daniel Camino
