I have looked at hundreds (maybe a thousand by now) of marriage dispensations in Guadalajara and can add that the vast majority of them were executed about three to five weeks before the marriage took place.
However, I have seen several dispensas that took place months even years after the marriage. This happened after a witness or family member revealed that the bride and groom shared a blood or affinity relationship--or when other family members married and new information was revealed during THAT pre-marriage investigation. In such instances, the priest had to go back and take statements for a marriage that had already taken place.
I hope this helps.

Dispensa process/time frame
Thanks for that information Claudia. I have been wondering where exactly to look for my ancestor's dispensa. I have to admit, I tried looking for it last month, but gave up due to time limits. I'm looking for a dispensa in 1835, but I know your not quite there yet. I may just wait for you! Haha. The work your doing is SO appreciated I'm sure! Michael D. Castro
