Researching without familysearch
Dear Jose,
I used to write that I have been doing genealogy research for many years, then over twenty years, then over thirty years, now I say that my research encompasses over forty years. When I first started out, I did not have Internet or familysearch as a resource. The main resources were books and records that were on paper. As the years have gone by, The ability to access these records has become easier, first because of microfiche, then cd's, then the Internet, then the various stages of familysearch. The latest version of familysearch is supposed to be the best but I was able to access certain documents on earlier versions of familysearch that I cannot access now. But overall, the ability to research through such a powerful resource tool like familysearch makes the old fashioned work of checking out books and records seem like too much work.
Although I too make extensive use of familysearch, much of my research continues to be of the old fashioned kind. I read a lot. Researching genealogy without the internet is tremendous work. The beauty of modern day research is the ability to combine all forms of research, and to collaborate from great distances through the use of the Internet. Many people don't have the resources that I have. Many people have resources that I don't have. Through cooperation and collaboration, much more is accomplished by sharing information on the internet through sites like Nuestrosranchos. If you really have "used all of what familysearch has" then you need to go back to the old style research and physically go to where the records or books are located to access more information. But all research begins with the information that we do have to guide us in the right direction. Remember, the path that guides us is that information that is already confirmed. Gather all the information that you do have and look at it individually and collectively. Sometimes you have to put it aside and come back to it later to see the clues.
Good Luck,
R.A.Ricci.

My response:
Your request brought up many questions. Are you looking for general information on how to use the many resources available to study genealogy? If you are, there are many books out there that can help guide you. The answer to what to do if you have "used all of what family search has" is not a short answer.
If you are looking for specific information about your ancestors, you need to provide more information and identify what clues you may have.
The full names Juan Martin Torres and Anna Xacinta de Los Santos is information that you should have provided if you were looking for specific help. It also would help to identify all of their children and any information that you have on them, especially that the information that you are looking for is in the late 1700's.
Also Rafaela is also known as Maria Rafaela Robalcava.
Beside Alejandro Torres, did you know that they are the parents of Maria Angel Torres de Los Santos (Sntos) baptized on 2/Nov/1783 in La Chona? If it was me doing the research, I would look for descendants of the siblings also to see if I can gather more information.
What additional information do you have that can guide the research? That answer to what you do next is to revisit all the information that you do know and see where that information may lead you.
Here is what I have so far:
