My surnames in JALISCO: ESPARZA, GARCIA, HERNANDEZ, LIRA (de LIRA), LOPES, MARTINES, ORTIZ, PAREDES (occasionally spelled as PADERES), de la ROSA, & TORRES
My name is Bert PAREDES and I'm researching the ancestors of my paternal great grandfather, Juan PAREDES, who was born in Ojuelos, Jalisco in 1862 and came to Texas in 1885. While I just recently joined this group and posted my Ahnentafel and GEDCOM here, I've been researching my PAREDES and associated lines for several years. My specific research targets in Jalisco are:
Joseph Antonio PAREDES & Maria Antonia MARTINES
Earliest record: baptism of daughter Maria Casilda, 21 April 1762, Ciénega de Mata, Jalisco, Mexico
Had two other known children: José Gregorio in 1762 & Maria Caesaria in 1764.
>> Looking for marriage or baptism records for this couple, and any info on their parents.
Bartoleme ESPARZA & Petronila (or Petra) GARCIA, married 8 May 1731, Ciénega de Mata, Jalisco, Mexico
Earliest record: 1731 marriage; have 10 children baptised in Ciénega de Mata from 1732 to 1756.
Possible match: Ciénega de Mata, 27 Mar 1715 baptism of Petronila GARSIA LOPES, daughter of Antonio GARSIA & Nicolas LOPES.
>> Looking for baptism records and any info on the parents of this couple.
Maria Josepha Carolina Rosa LIRA (or de LIRA), wife of Nicolas ESPARZA (son of Bartolome & Petronila), married 1761 in Ciénega de Mata, four known children from 1765 to 1774. Her daughter Maria Ynes, born in 1765, is listed in her 1787 marriage record with the birthplace of "Puesto de Carrasco," which I've been unable to find on any map.
Earliest record: baptism on 10 Dec 1743 in Ciénega de Mata.
>> Looking for info on parents, listed in her baptism & marriage records as Joseph DE LA ROSA & Maria Gertrudis de LIRA.
Maria Gregoria de los Dolores HERNANDEZ, married 11 Feb 1812 in Ojuelos to José Regino PAREDES. Three known children from 1713 to 1824.
Earliest record: baptism on 18 Mar 1793 in Ciénega de Mata.
>> Looking for info on her parents, named in her baptism & marriage records as Pedro José HERNANDEZ & Barbara Francisca LOPEZ
Yrinea ORTIZ, born about 1824, wife of José Paulino PAREDES. Four known children from 1848 to 1862.
Earliest record: marriage on 17 OCT 1841 at Señor San José in Ojuelos.
>> Looking for her baptism record and any info on her parents, named in her marriage record as Rafael ORTIZ & Maria Thomasa TORRES. Six other children of this couple were found from 1823 to 1838, with baptism records in Ciénega de Mata, except the last two (1835 & 1838) who were baptized in Ojuelos. The earliest sibling baptisms are 1823 & 1825 in Ciénega de Mata, but Yrinea's is missing. Also, in San Matias, Pinos, Zacatecas, there is a 21 Jun 1844 baptism record for Manuel E Ysmael ORTIZ, with parents named as Rafael ORTIZ & Tomasa TORRES, which might be the same couple.
Thank you in advance for any information you might be able to share. If I can be of any help to you, please let me know.
Thank you & muchos gracias,
- Bert Paredes

Welcome Bert:
Bartolome Ruiz de Esparza married Petra Garcia on 8 May 1731 in Cienega de Mata, he was the son
Joseph RUiz de Esparza and a woman named Juana Maria, Petra was the daughter of Antonio Garcia
and Nicolasa de Villegas, I would order the marriage record to see if any other information can
be found.

Hi Bert,
I would like to know where Daniel got his information for the parents of
Bartolomé Ruiz de Esparza. According to the information Bartolomé provided
for his marriage to Petra García, his parents were Manuel Ruiz de Esparza
and Ana Vicente de Montañés. Petra García was a mestiza, the daughter of
Antonio García and Nicolasa López (aka Nicolasa de Villegas).
Saludos,

Daniel,
RecordSearch has it wrong. I'm looking at Bartolomé Ruiz de Esparza's
marriage information, filed in Aguascalientes on 17 April 1731, which begins
as follows:
"Bartholo de Esparza Español vecino de este partido en el Soyatal hijo
legitimo de Manuel de Esparza y Ana de Montañes en la forma que mejor
proseda de... paresco ante Vmd. y digo que tengo tratado y consertado
matrimonio con Petra Garcia mestisa vecina del partido de Cienega de Mata
hija legitima de Antonio Garcia difunto y de Nicolasa Lopes... etc. etc."
On the same page there is a note that says that they were married in Cienega
de Mata "de licentia parrochi" on 7 May 1731.
This is not the first time this type of error is found using RecordSearch.
Therefore, I suggest that all information provided to the group should be
verified against the original source before it gets diseminated, making it
more difficult to correct.

I appreciate the information both of you have shared. As I'm somewhat new to this, can you please clarify for me whether "Ruiz de Esparza" is a single surname? In the 1787 Ciénega de Mata marriage record of José Gregorio PAREDES and Maria Ynes ESPARZA, her surname is written as simply ESPARZA, while her father is listed as Nicolas de ESPARZA.
More LDS microfilms from Ciénega de Mata are now on order to see if they have any additional data and to verify the extracted information. I've had other experiences with the LDS site data being wrong, but despite that it's a great resource.
FYI, I have three films from Ciénega de Mata on permanent loan here locally and will gladly do lookups:
640151 - Baptisms 1747-1766
640168 - Marriage Info 1699-1719
640181 - Marriage Info 1786-1788
On order are:
640149 & 640150 - Baptisms 1670 - 1747
640170 - Marriage Info 1727-1737

Ruiz de Esparza is a single surname. On many records it is shortened to either Ruiz or Esparza but some families kept the name intact.

Typographical error!
The entry: "Maria Gregoria de los Dolores HERNANDEZ, married 11 Feb 1812 in Ojuelos to José Regino PAREDES. Three known children from 1713 to 1824." should have had the dates as "1813 to 1824."
