Dear Sylvia--
I would be glad to help as soon as I return from a business trip to San Jose.
I have not worked on the GALLAGA line in awhile so there are probably new things to learn for me as well. My husband is a second cousin to Padre Miguel Hidalgo, about 6 or 7 generations back. The following will show different family members moving around quite a bit and the reason for my husband's family connection is probably because of his La Barca, Jalisco ancestors.
Juan de San Pedro GALLAGA Mandarte born 4 Feb 1703 in La Barca, Jalisco
m.
Joaquina de VILLASENOR y Lomelin Cortes Enriques de Silva born in
Santa Maria, Huanequero, Michoacan
their daughter--
Ana Maria GALLAGA Mandarte b. in 1731 in Michoacan
m. 17 Aug 1750 in Penjamo, Guanajuato to
Cristobal HIDALGO y Costilla
their second child, a son,--
Miguel Gregorio Antonio HIDALGO y Costilla
b. 8 May 1753 in San Diego del Union, Correlejo, Guanajuato
Sincerely,
Patricia Burton

Miguel Gregorio Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo y Costilla
Does anyone have a copy of the actual christening record for Miguel Gregorio Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo y Costilla? I have been searching for his christening record but have come up empty handed. I am aware of the transcript of about 1829 that is found online but I would like to look at the copy of the original, or if possible eventually the original. Does anyone have a copy or know where I can find one? Unfortunately the Genealogical Society of Utah did not film the dates of his christening. According to the transcript he was baptized in the parish of Cuitzeo de Los Naranjos and born in Corralejo. The Hacienda of Cuitzeo de Los Naranjos became a town in 1851 and the town is now known as Abasolo.

Grandparents
Greetings Grupo,
Recently I've been researching baptismal entries from the mid 1700's in Asientos and Queretero, and in both situations the child's grandparents are never mentioned; not just the particular entries I'm interested in, but in the entire book. Is this something I can expect from that time period or just those locations? It was so nice having the grandparents mentioned in later entries. Thanks so much for your help. Alice BB
Grandparents
Alice, I found the same situation in the same period of time in different places of Jalisco, I am afraid that was the usual registration method at that time. They registered usually the godparents and parents only.

Alessandro, Thank you so much for your response. It's ironic that they often include the parents' address, but not the grandparents' names! Can I expect to see the grandparents mentioned in other regions or time periods, or is the end of the free ride to another generation via baptismal entries? Again, I appreciate your input. Alice BB

Alice, Do not give up. I have found grandparents
in other regions for your time frame. I recall a particular film, that I was told did not list grandparents then, about mid film, the grandparents were listed.
Also, in some cases, I found that the padrinos were the grandparents. And, in some instances, I was able to find the grandparents using the names of the padrinos.

Hi Alice,
Here in Los Altos de Jalisco, I've found that they only started to mention
the grandparents until the very late 1790's and early 1800's. It is rare
when the grandparents were mentioned before these years in this region,
maybe it was a trend that the Catholic Church started to do during this
period for some reason.
What I've had to do when I encounter this situation is to only lookup
marriage records.
Saludos

Rick,
You just never know. I've come across marriage entries from the late 1800's that only mention the fathers of the bride and grooms. I guess when you think of it that way...we've come a long way.
Seriously, thanks for your thoughts. We're all in this together. Alice BB

Not to worry, I'm not giving up. These twists and turns only forces one to think outside the box, and that's a good thing. However, in my personal family search, I've yet to find padrinos that were grandparents; aunts and uncles, even priests, yes. But if there's one thing I've learned researching genealogy, it's to expect the unexpected! Take and thanks again, Alice BB
