I hope you all who requested this got an idea in my previous post how life and family was along time ago. I too, find it very awkward and confusing. Well the fact is there wasnt really a rulebook, it was more of a i dont think system is a good word, but it was a...i cant find the word, but system is close enough. Let us take the Camino and Vásquez families. The Caminos from Mariáno or his father Eúgenio. And the Vásquez from Pablo Básquez-Ruíz de Esparza. Mariáno had 13 children and Pablo had 8. Lets say, a María Camino married José Básquez. and Salvador Camino married Mariána Básquez. Each Camino or Básquez are siblings. María Camino's daughter Josefina Básquez would marry her cousin Pancho Camino, son of Salvador and Mariána. Each family at least married once or twice in thier own family. But never with their identical cousin, like if Salvador Camino and Celso Camino, children were two marry, it wouldnt take place. It had to be children of sibling of the opposite gender. Like Salvador and María Camino's children were able to marry. We think maybe this was dont because the same gender of parents would cause the children to deform? Im not sure either. Then their children started to marry within other family like the Robles, García and Rentería families. The other families also followed this system of opposite gender siblings. 30 years later we had Camino marrying a Camino and a Camino marrying a García, the Camino child of the first would married the other coples Camino child then Camino Camino...so on...Another reason why our family did this is because the main original pueblo of the Hacienda, was in the Valley, which is 20 miles from the capital of Huanusco. If I find alot of Onates there, I'll obtain a copy of the book itself! Unfortunately, I have no living older relatives (that I know of) from which to get any guidance. At the request of some members I decided to give a brief to the point explanation on how families in Huanusco marry. But I decieded to split this topic on two. Well basically we (our hacienda) started with 12 families. They had the opportunity to live anywhere on the 30,000 acre plot of land, which made up La Luz. At the height of La Luz around 1913 it would prob be 30,000 or so. After all those marriages, purchases and tradings...and compromises. Because it reached into Calvillo and Tabasco and Jalpa. Jesus Maria was a small hacienda. San PEdro was the same size or so as La Luz. Luckily San PEdro was owned by Cousins the Duran, also Jesus Maria the Rodriguez family and La Luz by the Camino Family. All were related. So I think thats why my grandpa says our family got away from all sorts of things. Like a tío would be the Sherrif or the cousin the Bishop or another cousin the banker and so on. Anyway the families were. There were others. but these were the big hanchos of MAriano Camino, the HAcendado, his confidants if you will. I descend from all except D. Vargas, D. Jiménez, D. Sánchez, D. Ruíz de Esparza, because they hadn't fufill the compromises or rules whatever. The families were interesting back then with all the rules. Most marriages almost all were arranged. I had submit a doc in the files section of the group, in the "L" click in "Leon Leticia", is an update for Lino Oñate my gggrandpa on my fathers maternal side.

I'm stuck on my research for my Enriquez family in Jalostotitlan. The latest couple I have is Jose Maria Enriquez and Maria Nicolasa Gonzalez de Villasenor. They are my 6GGrandparents. They lived around the mid 1700's. I can't figure out anything before that. Their son, Jose Vicente Yrineo Enriquez Gonzalez (who was a twin by the way) was born around 1785 and married Maria Francisca Romo de Vivar. Vicente's daughter, Maria Gerarda Enriquez, eventually made her way to Amoxochitl (Juchipila area) and married my GGGrandfather Jose Maria Enriquez... yes, there were both Enriquez :-) -- so makes for an interesting line to have 2 last names join in different towns with who knows what backgroud.

Can anyone help me with my family tree? My father's (Elias de Leon) ancestors are from Huejucar, Jalisco. Beyond my GGF Nicolas de Leon, born Abt 1845, I know nothing.
His father was Francisco de Leon son of Nicolas de Leon and Refugio Covarrubias. He was a music composer who was born after 1866 and died probably around 1910-1915 at the hands of a beating from Pancho Villa's thugs. Only recently have I discovered that Francisco had a brother named Espiridion de Leon who was baptised in Huejucar on 12/18/1874.

I just wanted to tell the new members who are new to researching that after 10 years of researching I just did my first record of "hijos naturales." I'd stayed away from them because I felt it was sort of prying.. silly me! I"m working on 0439889 Jerez Zacatecas, hijos naturales and have found lots and lots of children listed as natural when their parents were actually married!
