Joseph Arias married Antonia de Esparza on 25 Nov 1716, in Aguascalientes, and had at least 10 children born in Aguascalientes.
Joseph was the son of Juan Arias and Teresa Macias. I have not found a baptismal record for him. Does anyone have information on their ancestors?
Antonia de Esparza was the daughter of Ana de Esparza and an unnamed father according to the marriage record. I have not found a baptismal record for her. Is Ana de Esparza part of the Ruis de Esparza family? Does anyone have information on her ancestors?

Joseph Arias and Antonia de Esparza
George,
Juan Arias and Teresa Macias were married 9 Nov 1678 in Aguascalientes.
Teresa appears in some records as Teresa de la Cruz. I have identified
seven of their children born between 1687-1698, i.e. Pedro, Gertrudis,
Maria, Cristobal, Manuela, Cayetano and Joseph Antonio.
Joseph Antonio was born 8 Feb 1698 and bapt. eight days later 16 Feb 1698 in
Aguascalientes (Bapt. 1695-1701, Image 73/220). I believe he is the one who
married Antonia de Esparza 25 Nov 1716 in Aguascalientes. He would've been
18-years old at the time, quite an early age for getting married and
supporting a family. However, I could not find any children born to Juan
Arias and Teresa Macias between 1678-1687. Bear in mind, however, that they
could have had other children born during the first nine years of their
marriage. I just couldn't find them.
Since Antonia de Esparza was the illegitimate child of Ana de Esparza and an
unknown father, I think she was probably NOT a member of the Ruiz de Esparza
family. By the end of the 17th century many wealthy landowners permitted
some of their servants and slaves, españoles or otherwise, to use their
surname without restrictions. Ana de Esparza may have been one such case.
I have not been able to find Antonia's baptismal record or any other
information about her ancestors.
Could you please let me know the names of the 10 children you have
identified for this couple and their baptismal dates?

To Bill and Daniel:
Thank you for the replies.
The detailed information I have for the family is as follows:
1. Juan1 Arias, born abt 1655/60 in Nueva España (México). He married on 9 Nov 1678 in El Sagrario, Aguascalientes, Nueva España (México) Theresia Macias.
Children of Juan Arias and Theresia Macias were as follows:
2 i Lorenso2 Arias, christened 30 Aug 1682 in Aguascalientes.
3 ii Getrudes2 Arias, christened 20 Apr 1689 in Aguascalientes.
4 iii Maria2 Arias, christened 22 Oct 1690 in Aguascalientes
5 iv Xptoval2 Arias, christened 19 Mar 1692 in Aguascalientes. He married on 18 Oct 1716 in Aguascalientes Manuela Lopes, daughter of Juan de Cardena and Jacinta Lopes de Accurret.
+ 6 v Joseph2 Arias, born abt 1690/95 in Aguascalientes. He married Antonia de Esparza.
7 vi Manuela2 Arias, christened 12 Jan 1694 in Aguascalientes.
8 vii Cayetano2 Arias, christened 20 Dec 1695 in Aguascalientes. He married (1) on 10 Oct 1725 in Aguascalientes Maria Merino; (2) on 27 Dec 1738 in Aguascalientes Maria Efigenia Balades; (3) on 4 May 1744 in Aguascalientes Maria Adriano.
9 viii Josephe Antonio2 Arias, christened 16 Feb 1698 in Aguascalientes.
10 ix Joseph2 Arias, christened 23 Nov 1716 in Aguascalientes.
11 x Juan Antonio2 Arias, christened 13 Jan 1717 in Aguascalientes.
As I re-examine this data, I note that I had estimated the birthdate for Joseph who married Antonia de Esparza, and in my notes I have the question of whether he is the same as Joseph Antonio born in 1698; the info I have does not unambiguously make them the same person. The last two (another Joseph and Juan Antonio) do seem somewhat late to be in this family; a gap of 18 years is large, but not impossible.

Joseph Arias and Antonia de Esparza
Hi George,
Yes, Ruiz de Esparza is the original compound name of this notable family. With time compound names
lost its tradition and importance to some to others they reminded them of their lineage and family could
explain why lots of people conserve their name even today in Mexico. It depends on lots of things some
were really early others late in shortening the name. Nonetheless even today I have cousins in Aguascalientes (my mother's birthplace)
who conserve the last name Ruiz de Esparza. Its common to see Ruiz de Esparza shorten to Esparza or
de Esparza, Esparsa, D'esparsa Ive seen all sorts of spellings so do not limit yourself. Even Ruiz-Esparza
and one line dropped Esparza and were known as Ruiz to my amazement. I myself am Ruiz de Esparza several
times about 8 lines. Because my mother is from Aguascalientes the usual names pop up, Esparza, Romo, Tiscareno, etc
and of cousrse lines from Nochistlan, Tabasco, Guanajuato, Los Altos de Jalisco and San Luis Potosi and Mexico City.
I wil check but I believe I have information on the couple you seek.
