I've heard of Cuca but not Chucha for a woman. I heard this person
giving a lecture and he referred to so and so marrying a woman named
Chucha. IF this is a legitamate nickname what is it the nickname for?
thanks,
joseph
ps: I kind of remember hearing the word chucha as referring to a dog in
the femine.
Chucha
Hi Joseph:
You are right , a female dog can be called a "chucha" and "Chucha" is a nick
name for "Jesusa"
While on the subject..."Lucha" is a nick name for "Luz"

Juan Luis,
Your English is fine. I do understand you. I am sure your English is better than my Spanish. I had a cousin named Jesus, and we called her Chui (pronounced Chu-ee). My mother had a tenant that had two German Shepherd dogs, a male and a female, and when they got in the house, she would say with a warning tone, "Chuuuu-chos! Chuuuu-chos!" The lady also had a big green parrot, and when it saw the dogs in the house, he too would call out "Chuuu-chos! Chuuuu-chos!" I thought that was so funny.

Chucha
Emilie, isn't that ironic? My dad had a cousin named Chuchi or Chuchee
(don't know the spelling) but I believe her name was Maria de Jesus.
She lived in California and would come visit my grandparents (her aunt
and uncle) and my aunts and uncles (her cousins) in El Paso. Marge:)

how to unsubscribe
Are you unsubscribing from the group or setting your mail to "No Mail"?
to set your mail to "No Mail" you would:
1) log in
2) go to "my account"
3) go to "Edit"
4) go to "My Mailing Lists"
5) set the mailing list(s) to "no mail" and click Submit
6) IF YOU are unsubscribing from the list then you would set the lists
to "Unsubscribe" and then click "submit"
7) If you are unsubscribing then from the "Account Settings" position
you would click on "Delete" at the bottom
8) then it would ask if you wanted to confirm the deletion as it cannot
be undone and you would delete your self.
If all of that is more than you want to do then let me know and I'll do
that for you,
joseph

Chucha nickname
Chucho, Chuchín or Chuy is the male nickname for Jesús, and Chucha, Chuchita or again Chuy is the female nickname for Jesusa, María de Jesús, etc. It is not offensive at all in Mexico, athough indeed in some places chucho or chucha may be used as slang for "dog".
Chucha nickname
Maybe that's why my great-grandmother, María de Jesús Campos Mota, was called "Chuche" and not "Chucha." ;-) Well, I have heard of dogs being called "chuchos/as," but I think it's only in certain parts of Mexico. I never heard of that (being from Zacatecas) until I met my husband who's from Durango. Not sure if he got it from his Durango childhood or his mom who's from Jalisco...Very interesting...Also, there's a very funny saying in Mexico when someone says something that's not very credible...kind of like saying "My eye!" or "Yeah, right!" In Mexico it is, "Ay, sí, Chucha y sus calzonsotes!" Ha, ha! I wonder how that came to be!!!

Chucha
I know you didn't mean it in such a manner, Joseph, but it's an
incredibly offensive term in Spanish in Ecuador and other South
American countries. As you may remember, I'm married to an Ecuadoran.
