My Ruiz's line, descending from Diego Ruiz, c. 1712, Yahualica, Jal is
R1b1a2a1a1a(R U106 for short). I believe but as yet cannot prove that he is
the son of Cayetano Ruiz, who married Juana Rubalcaba in Cuquio, Jalisco, on
4 Feb 1712. If male out there is a direct descendent of Cayetano Ruiz and
knows his haplogroup, I would love to see if there is a match. So far none
has shown up in Ysearch or the Genealogy of Mexico surname project. I know
its a long shot, but....
Diego Ruiz / Cayetano Ruiz
Raquel,
I descend from Cayetano Ruiz & Juana Rubalcaba (through Diego's sister Eusebia, who married Nicolas Vazquez de Mercado)...
I have three Diegos Ruiz:
1) Diego (I) - Cayetano's father, married Ana Gonzalez
2) Diego (II) - Cayetano's brother
3) Diego (III) - whom you believe is your ancestor...
I have not found any marriage for your Diego, but I can tell you that Cayetano was married twice:
1) Juana de Rubalcava, who died c. 1732
2) Ana Lugarda Vazquez de Mercado - married 15 Feb 1733 in Nochistlan
Note on this 2nd marriage: Ana Lugarda was Diego (III)'s son-in-law's sister [in other words: Ana Lugarda was sister to my Nicolas Vazquez de Mercado above, who married Eusebia, your potential Diego's sister!!]
I also descend from Diego's second marriage to Ana Lugarda, so I have collected all the names on this family that have been indexed. I have not researched the Cuquio films yet, but maybe you and I can put two-and-two together and I can help you confirm your suspicion.
lmk,

Diego Ruiz / Cayetano Ruiz
Claudia,
I would appreciate any ideas.
I have Diego Ruiz and Ana Gonzalez since their line, through Cayetano,
eventually marries into my Rubalcaba family (not direct line) (and because
of my suspicions). I'm sure your data base is more complete, however.
There is a gap in the mg records in Cuquio, just about the time they would
have married, and I haven't located any Mg Info there nor in Nochistlan. I
have found most of the bapismal records for my Diego Ruiz and Catherina
Perez, but second surnames are not mentioned in any of them, for either
one. The baptismal padrinos include:
Miguel Haro de Mora y Josepha Aceves
Gregorio Perez y Lugarda Mercado
Cayetano de Rubalcaba y Maria de Placensia
Bartolme Garcia y Antonia Yanez
Cayetano y Melchora de Rubalcaba
Cayetano Ruiz y Anna Mercado
Joseph Gutierrez
Santiago Mercado y Manuela Esquivas
Joseph Ruiz
Diego Ruiz (probably an older son of my Diego) y Catharina Rubalcaba.
All the surnames, save Haro and Aceves, show up repeatedly in my family
tree, so this is of little help. I haven't combed the Cuquio and other
local towns' baptismal records to see if they consistently come up as
padrinos in a particular extended family. Are they mentioned in any of
yours?
I also still need to locate more marital records for Diego and Catherina's
children. Maybe the maternal surnames pop-up there. I didn't have any luck
with Cuquio death records, either. I don't know who Catharina Perez's
family is, but have my suspicions about Catharina Peres Yanes, dtr of
Gregorio Peres and Madgalena Yanes.
Do you have plans to attend the conference in Rancho Cucamonga next
Saturday?
I have some of the Cuquio films for the 1700s out on long-term loan.

Diego Ruiz / Cayetano Ruiz
Hi Raquel,
Here is what I have (only tracking my lines' siblings)...
Diego (I) Ruiz & Ana Gonzalez had the following children:
1) Blas, bap. in Cuquio on 06 Feb 1676
2) Cayetano, b. abt. 1689 (no bap. rec found)
3) Diego Ruiz (II), bap. in Cuquio on 30 Sep 1691
-BLAS Ruiz married Catarina Lisarde in Cuquio on 23 Jan 1718
-CAYETANO (I) Ruiz married twice - i) Juana Rubalcava in Cuquio on 4 Feb 1712, and ii) Ana Lugarda Mercado in Nochistlan on 15 Feb 1733, their padrinos were Salvador Gutierres & Catarina de Vargas, su muger
-DIEGO (II) Ruiz was baptized in Cuquio on 30 Sep 1691
-------------------------------------------
CAYETANO (I) Ruiz & Juana Rubalcava had:
1) Diego (III), bap. in Cuquio on 13 Nov 1712
2) Pedro, bap. in Cuquio on 18 Jun 1716
3) Eusebia, bap. in Cuquio on 22 Jul 1719
4) Jordian, bap. in Cuquio on 04 Jun 1722
5) Cayetano (II), bap in Cuquio on 05 Aug 1725 - m. Estefana de Loza in Cuquio on 04 Feb 1712
6) Julio Antonio, bap. in Cuquio on 02 May 1731
CAYETANO (I) Ruiz & Ana Lugarda Mercado had:
7) Ana Jose, married Francisco Yanez in Cuquio on 25 Feb 1754
8) Juan Jose Polonio, bap. in Cuquio on 23 Feb 1749, m. Maria Sandoval in Yahualica on 09 May 1791
9) Nemecia, bap. in Cuquio on 14 Nov 1751, m. Pedro Lisarde in Cuquio on 31 Jan 1770
---------------------------------------------
NOTES ON YOUR PADRINOS LIST:
A) What is the date of the LUGARDA MERCADO as madrina? Could be same who was Cayetano (I)'s 2nd wife
B) Cayetano de Rubalcava could be an aka for Cayetano Ruiz (II), who was the son of Cayetano (I) and Juana Robalcava ...if the dates match, see #5 above
C) I am certain that Cayetano Ruiz & Anna Mercado padrinos are Cayetano (I) and his second wife ...if the dates match
D) RE: Perez: All of my Perez who originate in Cuquio are Perez-Infante, so may want to look under Infante
A common thread I found is that my Ruiz's often married with Lisarde (Elizalde), Plasencia, Sandoval and Mercado.
Diego Ruiz / Cayetano Ruiz
For Cayetano Ruiz and Juana Rubalcaba:
1) I also have:
-Jose Santiago, bap 30 Jul 1728 in Cuquio, m. Maria Salome Loza 28 Jun 1751
(their son Jose Rafael is the tie-in to my Rubalcaba line.
-Maria m. Nicolas Mercado 18 Jan 1737 in Cuquio.
Also, I have 'Pedro Guadalupe" for Pedro and Joseph Giordan for Jordian.
2) Re dates & surnames in common of padrinos:
Gregorio Perez y Lugarda Mercado, 16 Aug 1739
Cayetano de Rubalcaba y Maria de Placensia, 31 Dec 1741
Bartolme Garcia y Antonia Yanez
Cayetano y Melchora de Rubalcaba, 4 Jan 1749
Cayetano Ruiz y Anna Mercado, 17 Apr 1750
Joseph Gutierrez
Santiago Mercado y Manuela Esquivas 24 Jul 1760
Joseph Ruiz 20 Jul 1762
Diego Ruiz (probably an older son of my Diego) y Catharina Rubalcaba. 12 Dec
1764
Your're right, Cayetano Ruiz and Anna Mercado appear to match. That gives
some support to my belief.
3) Re Perez: I haven't come across Perez Infante yet. I have some Perez
that I haven't explore, and a Perez de Paredes line.
4) Among my Ruiz line so far I most frequently see Rubalcaba, Perez, Lopez,
and then also Contreras, Limon and Gutierrez. Plasencia, Mercado and
Lisarde (Elizarde) show up in other lines.
5) Later in the 1700s I have a Diego Ruiz md to Josefa Robles. Their son,
Anastacio, marries Maria Camen Rubalcaba sometime before 1813. Do you have
them in your data base?
