Joseph, I just tried to create a file in the format you suggested but I guess I am technically challenged to put it mildly because my file was truncated and only parts of it were visible. I need help in California!! If you could see me now you would see me pulling my hair and yelling, ayuda por favor.
Something else. I know that there might be very long messages which are not suitable to be shown in full, but what about expanding the window size a little more to fit the average post?

Why are the messages appearing twice? Also they are listed on the right here under both Active Forum and New Forum topics. It is getting hard to follow them down to the last one in order to read them all on the website and to post a reply. Also where are the three forums listed, the ones called General, Research, and (?). Is it because when we post here, it also gets posted to the old website and vice versa? At least I finally found the way to sign in and post directly from the new website. That is quite an accomplishment for me.

The messages are getting posted twice because we are running the two
sites parallel so anything that gets posted in one gets posted in the
other. When the messages you send through the new list get posted to
YahooGroups, YahooGroups sends it back the new site (not knowing whether
it has been posted) and for some reason the new site does not recognize
it as an already posted message and posts it again.
This will be resolved once we are only running one site. I tried
figuring out how to fix it to no avail. I know it is somewhat annoying
but we will only have to put up with it for a bit longer. Better to
have two messages than one!
The three forums exists because we now have three mailing lists, one for
purely research questions, one for general history/culture/genealogy
discussions and one for events and announcements. That way, you can
choose to get messages about one, two or all three subject matters. You
can post to any one of the lists (as long as you are signed up for that
list).

Ok, but I have another question/suggestion: you mention the "mailing lists", but I don't see them listed on the side bars. I belong to Hispanic Genealogy Forum at DelphiForums.com, and they do have the categories listed on the side and you can scroll in the side bars within each category to the titles of each topic or "thread". I find that very easy to navigate. When you click on the title of the thread, you can view all the messages posted to that thread, and down at the bottom, when we have gotten very chatty, it lists the numbers of the messages, such as 1-26, 27-52, etc and if we have not tuned in recently, we can just go in and start clicking and reading. Could we have something like that?
Yes, I had put that up there for people who were having a hard time
reading the default layout. I think when I get a chance I will try to
create a theme/layout that uses fonts like that but is a bit nicer
looking...
I was going to tell people about changing their preferences but people
seem confused as it is. What do you think? Thanks for your feedback.

Suggestion for the new site
Arturo,
Would it be too hard to make the messages posted in the main section be shown in full, instead of having to click the "read more" link?
Also, could you try other fonts to see if the text becomes more readable?
Thanks.

Arturo,
I just switched (in my account preferences) to the Chamaeleon (sp) theme and I find these fonts more readable that the default.
