I am aware that the following films were filmed in
Zacatecas:
"The Cisco Kid" (the one with Jimmy Smits and Cheech
Marin);
"The Old Gringo" (Gregory Peck, Jane Fonda - ?? - I
can't remember for sure)
They both have scenes featuring the Cathedral in the
city of Zacatecas.
What other films have been filmed in Zacatecas?
Speaking of film - I grew up in Los Angeles, and when
I was young (5-10 yrs of age) we would go once or
twice a month to see Mexican movies at a theater in
downtown L.A. (I think it was called the Million
Dollar) - this was in the 40's. That was when Mexico
had a film industry. My favorites were the films of
Jorge Negrete and the ones of Cantinflas. Anyone else
ever go see the Mexican movies??
Hey - Y'all have a grand weekend - Happy Father's Day
to you father's out there.

Mexican Movies WAS Zacatecas on film
Yup! My tias worked at the Colon Theater and the Alcazar in El Paso in
the 1950s, so we would get in free. One of my tias married the nephew
of the couple (Sr. y Sra. Mauregui) who were the general managers of
both theaters. I remember seeing some stage shows at the Colon and
seeing Maria Antonietta Pons, who picked my older sister out of the
audience to come up on stage. A Mexican comedian named Mantequilla was
in love with another of my tias and asked to walk her home and followed
her even after she declined. My grandfather ran him off, and didn't
care who he was.
My father looked like Pedro Infante and Clark Gable (as Rhett Butler).
When I was little, I really did my father was onscreen whenever I saw
those two guys (in different movies, of course). I enjoyed Pedro's
movies, and Luis Aguilar, and Antonio Aguilar. I thought Miguel Aceves
was ugly but I enjoyed his singing. Tin-Tan and Mantequilla could make
me laugh. I also enjoyed Maria Victoria, Sylvia Pinal, and of course,
Maria Felix. Marge:)

Zacatecas on film
Natalie,
My husband spent a summer staying with relatives in in LA in 1947, and he used to shine shoes for sailors and marines "downtown" in East LA on Brooklyn and Whittier and he remembers that afterwards he would take the money he earned and treat his aunt, uncle and cousins to the movies of Jorge Negrete, Cantinflas and Maria Felix. He says the name of the theater was The Million Dollar!

Yes, I went to see mexican movies in Sacramento at the Cine Centro which used to be located on Franklin Boulevard I believe. We would see Cantinflas, Pedro Infante, Mauricio Garcez, and Pedro Armendariz from what I can barely recall. We used to have popcorn and which we added a little of the vinagre de jalapeño or tobasco sauce. I believe it burned down and was never rebuilt but once in a while they also had singers perform their. The only one I remember was a guy named King Clave and his hit song was "Los hombres no deben de llorar". He stuck out in my memory because my cousin Toña got picked to go up and sing with him.
Thats All,

Zacatecas on film
To anyone who's interested about films in spanish, not only from Zacatecas but from all over latin America including Cantinflas. Netflix has quite an extensive list of spanish language films. We have seen at least 100 if not more of the Spanish language films from España, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba etc. I could probably give you my top 100 spanish language movies and most of them come with either english sub-titles or english language.
PS; like with anything else, there are some bad films, not all of them are good.
I encourage people to patronize them and in this way they will continue to support the Latin American Film makers. It has opened my eyes to so many films, actors etc and some of my favorite films have been Portuguese from Brazil, who would have thunk it? Plus it gives me a better insight into the various histories and cultures of the different nations.
