Searching the Internet for translations of some pretty archane words I have run across in older Spanish colonial documents, I came across a great resource... Compilation of Colonial Spanish Terms and Document Related Phrases Compiled and edited by Ophelia Marquez and Lillian Ramos Navarro Wold and published by SHAAR. It is posted on their website at:
http://www.somosprimos.com/spanishterms/spanishterms.htm
But just in case the page comes down... I have uploaded it to the Files - Reference Materials Section:
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/16242
dicc_cubas/base3.htm Was: Colonial Spanish Terms
Arturo that brings up another but related topic. Right now I can't
access this site which all of us have found very very valuable:
http://biblio2.colmex.mx/bibdig/dicc_cubas/base3.htm
if it is only me and the site is really not down how can we do something
similar and make this site available on the nuestrosranchos.org site?
There is sooo much space available for us to upload and was hoping that
we could host this as well if it wouldn't be an outrageous amount of work.
joseph
ps: Duke University actually owns a hard copy of this dictionary but it
is ashame that it is in general circulation and the pages are crumbling.

Diccionario Biografico y Geografico
Joseph, Esther:
I was just using the Cubas dictionary yesterday and the link worked fine. I tried a couple of the Colegio de Mexico server URLs and most of them did not bring up a page. They must be having server problems.
When the page comes back up, we can consider mirroring the dictionary on our site. Their setup is pretty good in terms of having the index with hyperlinks to the corresponding page image, etc. If we can get them to share the HTML and JPEG files that would be ideal. Otherwise, someone will have to manually steal the code from their site.
Diccionario Biografico y Geografico
Thanks Arturo.
I love that dictionary and when it goes down I think that one day it
won't come back. If there is an easy way I'd love to host the site
(mirror as you said) as a back up on the nuestrosranchos.org site so
there will be a kind of back up. I guess we'll have to contact them for
permission.
thanks again,
joseph

Diccionario Geografico, Historico y Biografico
Hello and Happy Memorial Day weekend to all US members.
Does anybody know what happened to Cubas's Diccionario Geografico, Historico y Biografico??
It seems to be missing again from it's home site at http://biblio2.colmex.mx/bibdig/dicc_cubas/base3.htm
Anybody seen it lately?
Diccionario Geografico, Historico y Biografico
I've noticed that the site hasn't worked for weeks now, and I'm not sure why. The best I can offer is this link on Google Books: http://tinyurl.com/3rgomg2 . This link is for the first volume only. It does allow you to download the volume in a (very large) .pdf file.
I hope the site comes back soon!
