Can anyone help me with my family tree? My father's (Elias de Leon) ancestors are from Huejucar, Jalisco. Beyond my GGF Nicolas de Leon, born Abt 1845, I know nothing.
His father was Francisco de Leon son of Nicolas de Leon and Refugio Covarrubias. He was a music composer who was born after 1866 and died probably around 1910-1915 at the hands of a beating from Pancho Villa's thugs. Only recently have I discovered that Francisco had a brother named Espiridion de Leon who was baptised in Huejucar on 12/18/1874.

I should have looked before asking.. Joseph Leon from Modesto... My aunt Virginia Banuelos Gutierrez who lives in Stkn Ca. is from the line of Ysaac Banuelos but I think you already have this information. She told me a De Leon had contacted her but never got back to her. There are 2 or 3 people in this group related to this line.

Hello what name do you go by? I missed your introduction to the group.
I checked and didn't see your info submitted yet, I look forward to seeing it. Rosalinda Ruis and your moderator Joseph Puentes are both related to the Banuelos line in Huejucar and generously shared information with me. What I have is mostly from them plus what I found on the IGI. I haven't pursued this line very far since it was information for my Aunt and not part of my immediate family research but I am watching to see if there is a connection with the Banuelos from Jerez Zacatecas as Rosalia suspects. I did post my findings on Rootsweb for easier reading. Some people in the group are busy during the holidays so postings will be more likely later in Jan..

I found this...i thought it might be useful? DOnt know if you have this already....You might wanna order the microfilm to findout who Nicolas' parents were as well as Refugio's. At the end of this email youll find a Nicolas Leon that I found that may be yours since he was born in Huejucar, but only a guess. I ordered the microfilm 2 months ago and I received the microfilm today and found out the names of both sets of his grandparents! Pascual's paternal grandparents were FELIX DE LEON and SIMONA MARTINES and his maternal grandparents were CATARINO COBARRUBIAS and ROSALIA MAYORGA !!
Can anyone help me with their history?

Joseph Puentes, who is the moderator of the group, has the relevant Colotlan marriage film (0443784) on indefinite loan in his local family history center. You can check for whether a member has a film or not in the films database.
If you ask him nicely :) and he has time he may be willing to do the look up for you. The actual record should have the names of their parents. Covarrubias is a very prolific name around Totatiche and Colotlan, Jalisco. Many indigenous people who took the name and some from the direct line of an Isabel Covarrubias, who was married to Jacinto Talamentes in the early to mid 1600s (perhaps the earliest Spanish settlers in Totatiche) and were likely the owners of the San Antonio de Cartagenas Hacienda right on the border of what are now the municipalities of Colotlan and Totatiche.

Arturo Ramos found out that both sets of my GGGFs were married in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico ! I found more children for both sets of them !

I ordered the microfilm 2 months ago and I received the microfilm today and found out the names of both sets of his grandparents! Pascual's paternal grandparents were FELIX DE LEON and SIMONA MARTINES and his maternal grandparents were CATARINO COBARRUBIAS and ROSALIA MAYORGA !!
Can anyone help me with their history?

You're correct on the name MONTOYA. I've located some names BUT is there any way you can view the film and locate the parents of Felix de Leon and his wife Simona Martines probably born Abt. 1820 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico and also the parents of Catarino Covarrubias and his wife Rosalia Montoya probably born Abt. 1816 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico ???? Or at least point me in the right direction...do you think that Joseph Puentes might know?

I looked them up at familysearch.org. Rosalia's last name may have been Montoya. I can do a lookup on the Huejucar names; I have some Colotlan films, too, but I can't remember which ones right now.

I can certainly look up the Huejucar records, but my Colotlan films are too early. The only one I have that can answer any of your questions is #0443784, which may have Felix's possible first marriage. However, one of Felix and Simona's children was baptized in Huejucar, so next week I'll look at the film. It should contain the names of Felix's and Simona's parents.
