i felt like sharing this since it could give me a better idea how some of my mom's matches are related to her in the cases where i don't know how they fit in.
Other than the total East Asian % Native American the only times that the amounts between siblings will consistently be within 1-5% are when the Gedmatch calculators are used or the Dodecad Wrapper is used.
Siblings share 50% of the DNA. Due to recombination each child gets a random 50% of one parent and a random 50% of the other parents DNA. Only 25% of each parents overlaps in siblings. http://www.isogg.org/wiki/Autosomal_DNA_statistics
That is why testing as many close relatives as possible is best.
To find cousins you should get the autosomal tests at all of the companies - the FTDNA Family Finder, 23andme, and Ancestry.com tests.
To get the best ethnic breakdown 23andme. 2nd best is Ancestry.com
For the direct paternal line an FTDNA Y-DNA37 marker test minimum. 67 marker is even better.
For the maternal line the Full Sequence mtDNA although an mtDNAplus can be enough if all you want to know if the maternal line is Native American, European, or other.
and you can upload the raw dna data to gedmatch and play with some of their tools(i wouldn't recommend the are your parents related tool or the eye color one since they aren't that accurate)

Katy what haplogroup were they?
Linda in Olympia
DNA
i don't know, i just got their autosomal dna tested not their y or mt dna since those tests are too expensive and aren't offered by ancestry.
i find it odd that ancestry estimated his dna as being 12% middle eastern, while it gave my mom 4% and her sister(my aunt) 3%.

Dear Armando,
What tests do you recommend? It's about time that I get it done.
Thanks,
Rick A Ricci
