Dear Friends and Family:
November 1-2 are observed as Dias de Los Muertos , honoring the memories of our loved ones.
and November 11th is Veteran's Day, set aside to honor our Veterans.
Words can not express my gratitude to those men and women who dedicate
their lives to protecting our country. As I view the brutality and
devastation caused by Islamic inspired wars, I realize that we can never repay our veterans for the horrors forever etched in their memories. Please pray with me that our in-coming government will attempt to provide for all the needs of our Veterans, and we will fulfill our obligations to them will be set in place.
I give thanks for being born in the United States of Mexican Heritage with a proud history of 500 years of familia contributions to the development of the Americas.
I give thanks for the technological and scientific developments which have provided the means for me to learn of my roots and appreciate mis antipasados, for their sacrifices and accomplishments.
I give thanks for the Christian foundations of our nation, and our inspired Constitution.
I give thanks for our varied/ diverse educational systems, giving all opportunities to improve their lives.
I give thanks for family and friend who strengthen and support me.
I give thanks to you, readers of Somos Primos, who encourage my efforts and share information.
Let us all pray that the Lord will have His Hand on the outcome of the election.
God bless America that it will continue to be a stabilizing force in the world.
Mimi

Somos Primos inappropriate statement
Politics and history in genealogy
Submitted by R.A.Ricci on Sat, 2016-11-05 03:09.
Many of the first settlers were cutthroats. Many of the first settlers did some things that we descendants find very offensive. Many people, from the left and right, are going to be very offended by the actions of some of their ancestors.
Politics and history are a part of the study of genealogy. Though I consider myself a moderate, I present both "right" and "left" sides of my ancestry. In my chapters on my De la Torre Ledesma ancestry I present both sides at the same time in a very dramatic piece of history. I descend from the main characters on both sides of this World changing incident. I say world changing because even though the events of that day only had immediate consequences for Spain, the repercussions of that event were felt many years later as the Europeans spread out to the Americas. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella would not have been on the throne if not for what happened that day in history. History was changed by an "Amiga", and a flip of a wrist.
As to differing political beliefs, I find it invigorating to challenge the beliefs of people on the right, left, and even moderates. A good debate of opposing views is a wonderful opportunity to expand your horizons. I advise you to engage people in conversations, maybe even try taking the opposing side in a discussion as it can do wonders in helping create an understanding of why others hold an opposing opinion.
I have also been offended from some views expressed on this site, but this community is a diverse one as it is represented by people from all walks of life, and all levels of education. The antisemitism expressed by some members on this site bothered me so much that I even left nuestrosranchos for a few years because of those comments. I got over it because I find it very rewarding to collaborate with many of the members of this site.
I continue to find Jews and conversos in the ancestry of the first European settlers in Nueva Galicia. My book is of interest to those who want the truth about the ancestry of many of the founding families of Nueva Galicia.

Hi Rick,
Any updates on ur book? I can't wait to read it as I m currently researching my ancestors who were early settlers to nueva Galicia, Puebla. Pls update us. Thanks,
Pauline
Ridiculous statement "Islamic Inspired Wars"
I believe that Somos Primos is a valuable source of information but it does have a poor choice of words in this issue.
I can see why many people are offended by the statement: "As I view the brutality and devastation caused by Islamic inspired wars" because it implies that the terrorism that is being done is inspired by the Muslim religion when it is fanatics that are not in any sense spiritual that are waging this war. The terrorists are not following The Islamic faith. This statement is the type of statement that would come out of Trump's mouth.
Somos Primos was the first to make a political statement here so people responding to this outrageous statement should not be told to not respond to it. Nuestrosranchos can't expect a post of "Somos Primos" to make such an inappropriate statement and not expect someone to respond.
This is a repeat of when some members made inappropriate comments regarding Jews and then we were told to stop the discussion as it didn't have to do with genealogy. It did have to do with genealogy. I am a descendant of many of the founding settlers of Nueva Galicia and many of them had ancestors that practiced Islamic or Jewish religions. People have a right to stand up and say that their religion is not being treated with the respect it deserves. I am not Jewish, and I am not A Muslim but I will speak up for them. Most of the ancestors that we are studying have some Jewish or Muslim ancestors.

Joseph,
I think Somos Primos is very informative and an excellent resource. I learn
so much about history and culture from Somos Primos, way more than I learn
from school or anywhere else. Just in the last few issues, I've learned
about Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Gálvez, The American Revolution, new DNA
discoveries in Mexico, plus I learned about Repatriation, The Cristeros,
new saints and a bunch of stuff i didn't know about politics and
contributions to history. It's like I'm reading an entirely different
journal than some people. Plus, it's a link, No one says you have to click
on it. But, if you don't you're missing out on a lot of valuable
information.

Hi Joseph,
I also really enjoy getting this publication monthly. For those of you who know Mimi Lozano, I think it's an incredible feat that she pulls off monthly to compile and promote this newsletter. The amount of info and the variety of topics is incredible . I am very grateful for being able to learn about our extended communities and I concur it's a great resource that often offers a new fresh perspective. Like anything else, you don't need to agree with everything and you should always verify info at the source.
Please continue to share it. Many of us appreciate the work and effort put forth.
Thanks,
Pauline

Yes, this is an important resource that Joseph makes available for our benefit. By the comments, I see that most don't find anything negative about the site.
