Hello, everyone. I’m new to the group and looking forward to collaborating with all of you. I have been working on my family tree on and off for about 10 years.
I have hit a wall on my paternal line and am hoping for guidance and suggestions on how to move my research forward. I cannot locate birth records or parents of Matias Lepe (possibly y Rodriguez?) born around 1698 in Cocula, Jalisco and married to Bernardina Espinoza. I cannot locate her birth records either.
I also need help tracing my Santana (Santa Ana) ancestors past Joseph Antonio Santana born about 1650 in Sayula, Jalisco and married to Juana Maria Lopez Bueso y Guerrero de Ocon.
Any help you are able to provide on these two ancestors is greatly appreciated!

Parents of Joseph de Santana's parents
Hello,
Here is the "Informacion Matrimonial" of Joseph de Santana when he married Juana Lopez Bueso y Guerrero de Ocon:
Mexico, Jalisco, Arquidiócesis de Guadalajara, dispensas matrimoniales y matrimonios de extranjeros; ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSXG-DWRT-9?i=84&cat=2358531 (familysearch.org)

Lepe Research
Very interesting, Lee! I am pretty sure your grandson’s wife and I likely have other shared ancestors (Brambilas, Santanas, etc. in both trees).
Thank you for the research leads. I’ve gone down the PARES rabbit hole more times than I care to admit. Such a treasure trove! I always end up getting distracted with fascinating finds and end up in a tangled web! I have much to learn still and you have given me such great ideas. Thank you so much!

Lepe Research - Possible research leads
Vicky,
I have had some luck with various Mexico research with notorial records, wills, and padrons; although I have not checked if the Cocula area is available online and/or at libraries. I have also had some luck with sifting through Michoacan records, but most older records are not yet indexed. Also PARES records are available, but again have not researched the Lepe surname much yet. There are likely others that often check into this site that can elaborate further.
Here is the linage of Alejandra Zermeno (wife of my grandson):
Joseph Toribio "Thoribio" Lepe b. 16 Apr 1732, Cocula, Jalisco, Mexico, d. 2 Feb 1807, Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico
Jose Maria de Jesus Lepe b. 18 Oct 1774, Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, d. Bef 31 Oct 1864
Jose Timoteo de Jesus Lepe b. 24 Aug 1842, Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, d. 22 Jun 1892, Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico
Maria Juana Lepe b. Circa 1866, Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, d. 15 Aug 1912, Tecolotlan, Jalisco, Mexico

Mathias Lepe
Vicky, Welcome to our group!. I know this will not be of any help, but have the same brick wall with regard to Mathias Lepe and Bernardina Espinosa. My grandson recently married to Alejandra Zermeno, and her family also links back to Mathias and Bernardina through Joseph Toribio Lepe and Manuela Brambila. Alejandra's Zermeno family settled in Juchitlan, Jalisco. I have not had a lot of time to research this family, but if I find any clues on the parentage of Mathias, I will post on this forum. Lee
Mathias Lepe
Hi Lee. Thank you for the kind welcome. I admire the great work of this group. While I’m not a professional genealogist or historian by trade, I have developed a great interest and respect for both fields.
Mathias Lepe is my 6th GG and would love to trace my paternal surname past his generation. Are there any source documents that may not have been indexed yet that I can work on? I have looked and looked for years and keep coming up empty handed. I’d love any and all ideas anyone may be able to offer.
My ancestors through that line are:
Mathias Lepe: ~1698, Cocula, Jalisco
Geronimo Lepe Espinoza: Oct 2, 1723, Cocula, Jalisco (interestingly, his death certificate says he died in a desert)
Juan Clemente Lepe Agras: Nov 29, 1752, Tecolotlan, Jalisco
Jose Anastacio de la Trinidad Lepe Zamora: Jan 29, 1795, Tecolotlan, Jalisco
Jose Bruno de Jesus Lepe Brambila: Oct 5, 1838, Tecolotlan, Jalisco
Agustin Lepe Gomez, Aug 29, 1869, Ayutla, Jalisco
Jose Salvador Lepe Santana, May 14, 1900, Ayutla, Jalisco
Ramon Lepe Uribe (my father), Aug 9, 1933, Ayutla, Jalisco
Appreciate all the help!
