New file uploaded to ranchos

Dear Angie:

Whoever you are...wow...wow..wow!!!

Thank you so much.  Short note, I accidently found all these ancestors in Salt Lake City.  When I put in the state I put Aguas instead of Zac...which is what I was always told that the Alvares came from....well...as we know Zac and Aguas are close....on the map...this is how I found so many generations.....very good.

I am so excited......

I know you will all be touched by the beautiful illustration created by Eddie Martinez in support of the 2005 Hispanic American Series at the National Archives in D.C.,

As usual there is a great variety of articles.  One of my favorite in this issue is under Texas, called Head of the Class.  It was first published in the L.A. Times in January 2002. I saved it because I just loved the story. It made me proud.  Head of the Class is about then 24-year old Victor Cornejo who with knowledge of his culture and marketing intuitiveness revived the El Paso Stetson hats company in El Paso. You were a member from the day you started getting messages that had
the [ranchos] in the subject line.

I will use that as your genealogy if that is what you want me to do.
I'm not going to say this is enough or not enough you all decide that.
If you look in the "files" area of the group you will see the format
and "amount" of genealogy that most of the members have submitted. I'll
submit what you have as is. You add to it when you decide the time is
right.

I think I have heard of that book.  Or then again, I may have not.  Sounds rather interesting.  I'll look into it.

Hi Marge,

As you may have noticed in my introduction post, I also have ancestors in Zacatecas, namely in Monte Escobedo and Rancho el Limón. I'll soon have a file ready for uploading. When I do I'll let you know so you can browse thru it.

Thanks!

Hi Rosalinda,

Thanks for the welcoming message; I really appreciate it.

I'm glad to know that you also have families from Totatiche and the surrounding towns. It is very likely that we may have an ancestor in common, even if it isn't in the immediate generations that preceded us. To start with, in my genealogical findings in the IGI from the parish records I already have some of the surnames that you list: for example, Sandoval and Del Real, but I'm sure there may still others that I don't know.

I'm currently in the process of transcribing a list of ancestors from my maternal great grandparents, which are the ones from our area of interest. I just came back from out of town as I was busy attending some work, that's why I haven't done it. I'll let you know soon when I upload my files.

Kind Regards

FYI: Misc Colotlan Hacienda Info

Gloria,

In reference to the information and question below regarding the Felguerez and Colotlan, I
make a few comments. One, you can obtain an idea of the land owned by the Felguerez
family by reviewing the article that I put in the photo section and labeled Valparaiso.
Paragraph three of Cerro de Gallegos.jpg gives you an estimate of the size of the land
ownership. In the 1800's ownership of land generally meant ownership of very large tracts
of land. Secondly, the names of some of the ranchos owned by Felguerez family in
Valparaiso (I think) were: El Astillero, El Tejujan, Las Cruzes. They also owned a silver
mine, Santa Elena. In Colotlan, they owned La Trinidad and the silver mine called Bolanos.
Thirdly, these properties were all lost in the Mexican Revolution to my knowledge.
Fourthly, one of the Felguerez returned to Valparaiso in the 1920's, only to be murdered.
Lastly, one of the great artists/painter/sculptors of Mexico today is from Valparaiso and
part of the

Ken,

I agree with you, this group provides much valuable information and very rich dialogue. I believe that many in this group are true geneaologists and historians.

But by far, our leader, Joseph Puentes has the greatest influence on this group. Joseph keeps our feet to the fire and doesn't lose sight of this groups mission, to reach back into our ancestry, to share verified information with other group members and to be a source of knowledge, inspiration and pride in whatever, wherever and whoever we descend from.

Thanks Joseph and all the other Ranchos group members who contribute so much to this group. I won't mention any other names because so many of you have so much to offer whether it be DNA, LDS, regional, historical, language, culinary, music, geography, legends, cultural, religion, tradition and so on. We are lucky to belong to such a rich group of Mexico/Americanos. Que viva la Raza!

Joseph,

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!. I had tried a google search but had no luck.
I had no idea this was an option.

I'm in Glendora, California. It's about 10 miles east of Pasadena.

I'll take your advice. I'll try my local library, but if that's no help,
then I'll try my alma mater, Cal Poly University.

Appreciatively,

Ken

Misc. Mexican Music of the 16th17th Centuries

okay I see I've kind of gotten carried away with this. Its just that I
don't think to often of the cultural influences that affected our
relatives in different parts of Mexico. Its hard to imagine my relatives
in 1700's in some small Ranchos being subject to a higher level of
Music. But then I'm sure that even in the bigger Cities there was the
initial presentations and then that influence would filter outward
eventually making its way to the countryside even if it was only on the
strings of single guitarists trying to duplicate the more cultured
sound of the big city.

Manuel;

I know so little about the La Barca area in Jalisco. My
sister and her physician husband live there. My grandfather was from there and I

Can those of you that have special maps for your particular area of
research send them to me? I want to make up a section that has only good
maps for as many areas within our area of research as I can. I'm not
looking for generalized maps but those that get down to the Rancho
level. If I've already got the map either at my personal site that is
linked to in the "links" area or one of the other links you don't need
to send it again. But if you have a nice one you are pretty sure we
don't have please scan it or have it scanned and send it to me. I'll
make up a section for them and make them available to everyone.

thanks,

where are you Ken? Are you anywhere close to Florida? I'm wondering why
Florida has this book? Maybe a primo of yours is there somewhere.
Anyway you can try to do an ILL on this book and just hope that they
will do it. If I wanted to hedge my bet on it being successful you
might want to get a professor friend of  yours from a local University
to make a special request for it. Or if you are affiliated [alumni,
friend of the library, continuing ed., adult ed, etc] with a local
University I would do the ILL request through that University rather
than through your local public library. I've heard that a University
will be more willing to do an ILL to another University if they are
resistant to doing a Public Library ILL:

I've already introduced myself to you, but if I may, I would like to post a brief introduction to other members of the Ranchos group.

My name is Victor Villarreal and I'm from Tamaulipas, México.
