There is a Banuelos family who claims to be my cousins and cousins of my Banuelos branch. They don't know HOW they are cousins but they insist that they are. I can't find any records of them anywhere.

Their living descendants don't know either...they barely remembered their grandfather's name. My older brothers also told me that they are our cousins but don't know how.

I was wondering if anyone could help me find out? They live in my California hometown where most of the Banuelos and DE LEON famiilies live. I remember visiting them with my parents in the late 1940s and early 1950s when I was a child. My mother told me that she was my "Tia" Nicolasa Banuelos born on 23 Jul 1915 in Huehucar. Her mother's name was Mercedes Flores born on 24 Sep 1888 married to Lazaro Banuelos. I also thought that because Mercedes was a "Flores" that perhaps she was from my paternal grandmother Petra Flores Sandoval's side. Mercedes' father was Santos Flores and mother was Jesusita (unknown last name).

I verified the dates because I visited their graves ans photographed their tombstones.

I ran a check and located a Mercedes Flores born on the same date 09/24/1888 to a Santos Flores and mother Juana Ramos in Bolivia. Does that kinda throw a monkey-wrench in the Family Tree?

Can anyone help me with this mystery? My Banuelos cousins told me that they knew of them and had heard that they were cousins also but didn't know how or even if it was true that they were related.

Thanks, you helped me connect the "dots' to the missing link between the Lazaro Banuelos family and the DE LEONS and my cousins the BANUELOS of my hometown area. When my brother Manuel died in 31 May 2006, I met her descendants at his rosary. They insisted that they were our cousins but they didn't know "how" ..they barely remembered the name of their own mother's (Nicolasa Banuelos) parents Lazaro Banuelos and Mercedes Flores. I promised myself to find the connection. I visited their graves and photographed the tombstones of their family and for the past 18 months I've been searching for the truth.

My mother was the one who had a special bond with Nicolasa Banuelos! I remember back in the late 1940s we went to visit her and I played in the back yard when Nicolasa's turkey (which was taller than I was) got loose and it chased me around the yard...all the time I was screaming for help..and Tia Nicolasa (in my family, older-generation cousins were always called Tio or Tia) and my mother came out and almost peed in their pants from laughter!

Nicolasa's father was a son of Leocadio Pascual Banuelos who was a brother of my mother's grandmother "Chentita" Maria Vicenta Banuelos (my mother's Tiburcia Villaneda's mother) and her brother (the Banuelos' grandfather) (Jose de los) Santos Banuelos. Their father Jesus Banuelos is our mutual GGGF.

Lazaro Banuelos and Tiburcia Villaneda were "primo-hermanos" (first cousins).

I feel so humble....at this moment....it feels to me like my ancestors are looking over my shoulders to make sure that I properly record their history ...who they were.....what they did....and who they loved.

Thanks to you (the border-crossings helped) and many others who helped me regarding my "Tia" Nicolasa Banuelos (daughter of Lazaro Banuelos), I also e-mailed an inquiry to all of my cousins and family members and one of them responded with the necessary information. Lazaro Banuelos (born Abt. 1888) was a son of Leocadio Pascual Banuelos who was a brother of one of my maternal great grandmothers Ma. Vicenta Banuelos (Chentita). So therefore Lazaro was a primo-hermano (first-cousin) to Vicenta's daughter Tiburcia Villaneda.(my mother's mother).
