...or is it harder to post a message? I don't mean to come to the site and actually post. But, when Ranchos was around, it was easy to see and respond to a message because it popped up in our email. Now we actually have to come to the site...and I'm finding that, now, I'm not doing it as often. I love the site, really, it just seems harder. I feel like I haven't really had any dialogue with anyone. :o(
On a brighter note, I went to a book signing/reading last weekend with Sandra Cisneros. For all the readers in the group, I recommend all her books - especially to the women. She writes with so much passion...she's so lyrical in her words. Her last book, Caramelo, I've read about 20 times. Ms. Cisneros signed my copy and a copy of poetry of hers that I bought at the signing called, "Loose Woman". I know this doesn't seem to have anything to do with genealogy, but her book, Caramelo, is the story of the main characters family, as her great-grandfather was from Spain, her grandparents from Mexico, and, finally, as her father made his way from Mexico to Chicago. It's a fun book with lots of historical references that you all may find entertaining.

I'm not getting any e-mail either. And I never got a confirmation emails when I selected the three lists.
Is is just me....??
Hi Peggy!
If you or any of the Ranchos members....(or anyone else) are ever in San
Antonio please let me know and I will take you for a drive by Sandra
Cisneros' house.....she is indeed a special person and made a few headlines
here (there) in SA some time ago when she went against the norm and had her
house painted a very "latino color".....which ruffled a few feathers in her
historic neighborhood! Needless to say, all turned out well because the hot
Texas sun actually "toned down" the "hot color" and it was "acceptable" :-)
We had the same color controversy in SA when our wonderful central public
library was also painted a "latino color" which was referred to as
"enchilada red" by a lot of our notables......there was a little controversy
about that but it was finally accepted! Actually, I LOVE the "latino
colors" on buildings. This is so typical of Mexico and other Latin
countries! When I drive to the central library, the only way I can find it
is by looking for the "enchilada red" tall building! BTW, I just love
enchiladas!!! :-)

Hi Josie! Thanks for the offer...I'm a very big fan of hers and, during the reading, she actually talked about her house "controversy". Like you, I love when house are brightly painted (in warm tones) although I can't seem to like the bright pink house trimmed with bright blue (down the street from my mom's house.)

refried beans that mound up and with sopa de arroz! Yummmmm-ohhhh!!!!
I can not make them to taste like home at all. Now that I'm diabetic,
I can't eat them at all now. :(

Josie -
I actually knew Sandra before she became famous. She grew up and lived in
"Pilsen", a heavily Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago. I used to go to poetry
readings she was in and others - there is a strong artsy community in Pilsen,
some Hispanic, some not. She dated a guy I worked with for awhile. I used
to work in a community based organization for many years....It gives me great
pleasure to watch one of our own make it - and make it under their terms....

Esperanza,
Isn't it great to see our Mexican-American people do good? She was very gracious, down-to-earth, and funny when i met her - although she had the flu (like a flu could stop her!).

If a person is properly subscribed to the email lists it should be
exactly like the Yahoo Ranchos where the emails just get sent and pop up
in your email inbox.
Maybe you never replied to those confirmation emails. Here is what I"m
going to do. I'm going to unsubscribe you and resubscribe you
immediately. So some new confirmation email will be generated. when you
get the 3 separate confirmation emails just reply to them to complete
the confirmation process.
let me know if this make a difference. If it works you should never need
to go to the website to read the emails.
joseph (note: i sent this message to you through the group list and to
your email address just to make sure you got it, be on the watch for
those confirmation emails coming to you soon).
