is there anyone on the other end of this email?
Did we lose all of you?
I hate to stimulate conversation for the sake of conversation, but. . .
. . .I really would appreciate you emailing back to the list if you get
this message.
If you get this message just click "reply" change the Subject and send
me your favorite recipe for hand made Tortillas de Harina or tell me the
name of your latest great grandchild who just happens to be a direct
decendant of your GGGG grandfather from Los Altos de Jalisco or explain
to me some of the unusual things that your parents did that might have
been folklore and tradition coming from generations ago in Mexico. .
.for example. . .Every once in a while my Mom would be doing her thing
and suddenly she would in a hightened voice say, "Mijo vengase aqui." I
would come to her and she would put her hand in my pocket and have this
look of discomfort on her face. Well on the surface this would appear
strange until you heard the "rest of the story." Seems that at these
time of hurried action she would suddenly be struck with a big "itch" in
the palm of her hand. . .it didn't happen often but when it did this was
a "sign" to her that Money was near. So she would find her closest child
and transfer that money into one of their pockets while at the same time
suffering the discomfort of having the itch in her palm.
Sounds strange, but my Mom would do things like that and to us it was
normal.
So did any of your Mom's ever pass on their thoughts and traditions and
beliefs via their "old country" way of thinking?

I'm here
But I am not at home - I am reading my messages at my daughter's home. I can't think of anything at the moment - too excited awaiting the start of Final Four game of the NCAA basketball tournament. Three of my kids graduated from GMU (George Mason Univ) in Fairfax, VA - and we are full of MASON fever - Go GMU! I will have to think on it when I get home. Y'all have a great weekend.

Bueno ???
Joseph, I'm still here....
No great story but something my grandmother Juanita Sanchez Castanon, originally from Jerez Zacatecas, used to do. She was a very religious Catholic woman but when she prayed she liked to go out in the backyard and face north, south, east and west when saying the rosary. She said she wanted her prayers to reach all her family and she didn't know where they all were. It sounded very Indian to me and very indearing..

Bueno ???
Joseph,
I'm here and I got your email.
Whenever I get an "itch" on the palm of my hand (not very often) I almost
invariably get remembrances from my childhood and what we were told about
money coming our way. Needless to say, what we were not told by our old
folks is that the itch money comes and then leaves rather quickly. JJJJ.

Bueno ???
Yes, she did but they were all Scots or Irish superstitions--don't
cross 2 knives--there'll be a quarrel; if your ears itched, someone was
talking about you. There was a similar one about money and an itching
hand...it depended on which hand itched whether you were getting or
giving money. Marge:)
