There are several references to Diego de Aguayo (el viejo y el mozo) in GENEALOGIA DE NOCHISTLAN ANTIGUO REINO DE LA NUEVA GALICIA EN EL SIGLO XVII SEGUN SUS ARCHIVOS PARROQUIALES by Jose Luis Vazquez y Rodriguez de Frias. On cursory review, none of them match what you already know about your ancestor. In my Aguayo research, however, most or all of the Diegos de Aguayo born in the late 16th, 17th, and 18th century stem from Antonio de Aguayo, the conquistador who came to New Spain from Portillo, Spain in 1525. Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful in your search, but I will continue to watch for your Diego de Aguayo in my research.

Priest Diego Aguayo
I would like to learn the birth/parent information for the Diego Aguayo who became a priest. What eclesiastical record should I seek and where to find it? My Diego was a priest in Cuautitlan, Jalisco in December 1800. In 1806 he moved to Guachinango, Jalisco. He died in 1835 in Guachinango, Jalisco.
Thanks for your help. Ed Nissen Padilla
Aguayo and Becerra
Hi Jose, Let me jog your memory :) Way back on 14 Sept 2009 I had a question regarding my 5X Grandfather Candido de Aguallo (Aguayo, Aguiao). At that time I was trying to find information on Diego De Aguayo (birth abt. 1730) married Francisca De Becerra (birth abt. 1735), his parents. I have a record of Candido De Aguayo marring Maria Gomez De Mendoza (abt. 1795). They had a son named Agapito De Aguayo married to Narciza De Loza, married 21 May 1827. That's all I had. You were kind enough to respond at that time with your findings. Well, after a year and a half of searching, I finally found a marriage certificate for Candido marrying a Anna Gertudis Ballejo, 18 Dec.1753. On this certificate, it states hijo legitimo de Diego Aguallo (Defunto)and Francisca Becerra. Her parents were Lucas Ballejo and Thomasa Herrera. So, I kinda verified that I got the right parents for Candido. Does any of this ring a bell??? Sounds like Candido was about 60 years old when he married Maria Gomez De Mendoza. Her parents were very established and well to do. Any help really appreciated.

Diego De Aguayo
Thanks Jose for your input. Bill Figueroa was kind enough to past along his information. Sounds like he concurs with your findings. As I mentioned to him, on the LDS FamilySearch Site, it shows them being born and married (abt. 1750) in Jalostotilan, JAL. This one anomally, Francisca's last name is being spelled Veserra might be a clue. Don't know if this makes a difference. On the other hand, at least I know now that Nochistlán, Zacatecas
plays a role somewhere down the line. Thanks. -Jaime
