Hey,

Just left Salt Lake City yesterday, and whenever I'm in town I stay at the
Howard Johnson Express, On N. Temple & 300 West.  It's $40 a night for
a queen or king size bed, and about 5-10 walk to the Family History Library.

There are hotels a block or two closer, but if cost is an issue, I'd stay at
Howard Johnsons.

Going to Salt Lake City

The LDS in Westwood is located on Santa Monica
Boulevard at the corner of Manning. Not to far east of
the 405 Freeway and north of the 10 Freeway. I was
told there that it was the second largest in the
country, after the one in Salt Lake City. It has many
films. The most are from the state of Jalisco. I found
several good ones for Tepa and Atotnilco (los Altos),
but I have been ordering some. I got to the point that
I rather take a trip to Salt Lake City before I spend
more to have some sent to L.A. Whoever goes to Salt
Lake City needs to give us the inside scoop for those
of us who want to go in the near future, but are not
certain how soon it will be.

Is this something you want me to do when I go to Salt Lake? Or are you referring to a different board such as the on-line message board? Yes I know I'm slow in the brain but it's best to ask rather than continue to question the content and intent.

Thanks, Alicia

Thank you Victor, Yes Last years book will be fine even the year
before. I suspect that the relatives I'm looking for might have been
living in my areas of specific research for 300 years so that being the
case I don't think they moved from house to house much either. . .so
even a book from 2001 or 2002 would be great and definitely much much
more than I have now which is nothing.

thanks Victor. . .and to any others that might look for books for me

Jonathan,

It would be my pleasure to meet with you while in Salt Lake. My only fear is that I'm so ignorant compared to all you seasoned genealogists, but the upside is that I would learn so much.

I haven't booked my flight yet but I'm considering arriving on the 14th early in the AM and departing on March 16th late in the evening. That would give me 3 full days. I hope that's enough to do some serious damage.

Would any of those days work for you? Who knows maybe we can inspire, coerce or cajole some other Ranchos members into going on those dates. If these dates don't work maybe you can suggest alternate dates. I'm not available the last week in March but I could be talked into early April if need be,  before Joseph kicks me out for falling behind on my research.

Thanks again Jonathan and looking forward to meeting you and learning from one of the master  genealogists.

Their website (www.seccionamarilla.com.mx) allows you to lookup a
number of any place in México but you have to enter the name of the
person, which I suspect is not exactly what you'd like doing anyway.
You see, these phone books are printed only for their subscribers,
and although I'm sure that they have to print some extra copies is
not very easy finding them. I'm still trying, though.

I've also posted some messages in one of the Zacatecas forums asking
for help from someone who lives there to help us get at least one
phone book. No answer yet. By the way, is it Ok if I get last
year's edition?

Victor.

Finding relatives like that can give your genealogy a tremendous jump
start. You just never know how contacting them might lead you to a
branch of the family that is way way bigger than the current one you
know. . .along with the possibility that you might find a kindred
spirit "primo/prima" that has been researching the family as well. The
possibilities are great. congratulations and please do keep us posted
on this subject in general. . .I know Tijuana is not our target area
but the subject of oral history and telephone books and find living
relatives from lost branches definitely fits in with what we need to be

List Your Films Please: was FHC Westwood

okay, so now the cat is out of the bag. In the Ranchos2 files [look
under "members films"] area is a place where members can list their
permanent films. I know that some of those films might not be exactly
yours but if you could why not make a list of all the films you have "permanently"
available via your family history center that have to do with Jalisco,
Zacatecas or Aguascalientes and add them to the list. If all the
members would do this we could possible ask for an occassional emergency*
look up or maybe some general information.

For example like I was surprised to see so many baptisms for Indios
from Teocaltichi on the film for Tlaltenango. It seemed as if only the
indios from Teocaltichi were listed and no others. thanks,

Remember, if the film is not there, you have to
