Is it OK to ever consider crossed out information as legit?

A while ago, I found out that my ggg-father Francisco Bonal is listed as "hijo de padres no conocidos"(parents unknown) in both his marriage certificate and matrimonial information. I haven't been able to find his baptism, so I started looking at his children's baptisms for clues. Interestingly, I found that some of their godparents had the surname Bonal. That led me to the marriage of Felix Santiago Cabrera and Maria Josepha Bonal (godparents of the youngest of Francisco's child).

I researched this couple, suspecting that Maria Josepha Bonal might be related to my ggg-father, and guess what I found on her, she's also "hija de padres no conocidos" (parents unknown). Well, that disheartened me a little because I couldn't prove anything. However when I looked at their matrimonial information, I found a letter that the priest wrote about the couple. In that letter, he still writes that Maria Josepha Bonal is daughter of unknown parents and there's something crossed out after that statement. When I zoomed into the image, I was able to read what the priest tried to cross out: "criada en la casa de Nicolas Bonal y de Juana Maria Perez" (raised in the house of Nicolas Bonal and Juana Maria Perez). Here's the link to this image if you want to read it: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18698-24217-39?cc=1874591&wc…

Interestingly, this couple, Nicolas Bonal and Juana Maria Perez, are also the godparents of another of my ggg-father's children. And also, they appear as the godparents on Maria Josepha Bonal's marriage. Did the priest just try to cross out a mistake he wrote? Were they really the step parents of Maria Josepha Bonal and the priest decided, after writing the names, that that was too much information? I hope my message was not confusing. There's enough proof that all these people knew each other. I understand that there's no proof for what I'm about to write, but I have a feeling that my ggg-father Francisco Bonal got his surname from this crossed out couple. No, I'm not writing this on my family file yet, but I can't stop thinking about this.

What do you think?

Book on research?

I've been reading some of the emails/postings regarding a book that has information on family names (research). What book is/are they referring to? Would I be able to request a search on my family? I would not want to impose but if it would help me to find some of my ancestors, I would appreciate any assistance. I'm sure we all know how difficult some searches can be---especially as we get into the 17-1600. Please let me know. Thank you.

Ann Marie Gutierrez

P.S. My searches are in Arandas and Jalostitlan. The family Name is Gutierrez.
My Mother's side of the family was Gutierrez and my ex-husband's Father was also Gutierrez and also from the area of Jalostitlan and Aguascalientes. My Father-in-law always teased me about maybe our being "parientes" since I looked so much like his family.

I also would like to THANK YOU ALL for the help I've been given so far in my searches. You are a great group of people--devoted to helping others and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. As it was through "Nuestros Ranchos" assistance, that I found my Mother's birth certificate....Joseph, you hold a special place in my heart for that find. Thank you.

Hi Victor:

When you signed up with Facebook did you take the time to read the fine print and all of the "Service agreement"?  If you did not, I suggest you go back and read it.  They get rights to ownership of anything and everything you send in, post, and share by using their website...They have thousands of people in third world countries mining the data that comes across Facebook and building databases on individuals.  It is estimated that over 25% of companies contemplating  prospective employees are consulting these databases to get an insight on individuals before they get hired.

If you are going to suggest to other people to join "Facebook" remind them to make sure they read and understand the "Service agreement" before they sign up.  You are opening and giving up your privacy to them when you sign up.

I'm curious as to why so many of the family moved there. Would anyone know of any particular historical condition that made people leave San Gabriel?

Jose Manuel Gutierrez: b. 1763, Arandas, Jalisco or in Jalostitlan,

Hello everyone. I pray and hope you all had a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving Day.
I have been searching for one of my great-grandfathers and could not find his birth documents---date of birth and place of birth. I did find all of his children (15) it looks like---could someone help me in my search for both my
great-grandfather and grandmother. All of their children were born in Arandas so I am assuming both Jose Manuel and Maria Magdalena were from Arandas---but as my Mother use to say---do not assume...check it out. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Name: Jose Manuel Gutierrez 1763 either Arandas or Jalostitlan, Jalisco

Maria Magdalena Camacho Martin 1764.

Pazuulo Definition

Yes, I was reviewing burial records, so you are right that it must mean infant. I've seen the word spelled a couple of different ways. The "z" might be an "r" and it might say "Paruula." I'm sure the spelling varies depending on the region and the priest's origin. Gracias - it seems there is nothing you people at Ranchos can't figure out!

Pazuulo - What Is It?

Hello Researchers,

I keep encountering the word "Pazuulo" and "Pazuula" after names, such as "Maria, India Pazuula." Does anybody know what this means? I checked an antique Spanish dictionary and could not find the word. I also checked the Internet and had no luck.

Alice

Need help with surname

Hi everyone,

I'm still researching the Fulgencio Valdez and Cecilia Hernandes line. Born 20 years before 1831 or born in 1811. My biggest problem has been trying to figure out Celcilia's mother's last name.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-20468-13357-68?cc=1860864…

Jose Maria Hernandes and his wife "Maria Gregoria Marmeto"...I know that the priest probably misspelled this but I can't find a surname that I can apply to mispelling.

Patrones ...Juan Esteban (can't understand if the this is his last name or a suppose to be a Spanish word) Y su mujer Maria Caluida Banegas.

Also in the sidebar it says what village they are from...but I can't figure out what village that would be.

In the marriage record that I found for a Jose Maria Hernandez and a Maria Geogoria Marceto it seems that Jose Maria is a widower and they were only married in 1825. Which would mean that Cecilia could not be Gregoria could not be her mother. Unfortunately this marriage is held in Ixmiquilpan and not Mequitic de Carmona which makes me think the records aren't related because in the Marriage record for Fulgenico and Cecila it states that they are both citizens of the village of ..... and therein lies my confusion or stumping.

last entry on left side (second page)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-11229-13419-37?cc=1410092&wc…

And to continue my dilemma in my continuing research I found a baptismal record for a Sillia Hernandes born in 1811 whose father is Jose Maria Hernandes but whose is mother is a Josefa de La Cruz.

Last entry on the second page.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-17188-13361-42?cc=1837906&wc…

I would like to say that I've tried all the extraction methods that the family history guides provides but my limited Spanish can sometimes be a disadvantage. I've been stumped on this for a couple of weeks now and I sure would like to make some progress, so all help is appreciated.

Could someone be kind enough to help me find me way around this puzzle. Thank you.

Help With Ortiz de San Pedro of Tlaltenango

I just found an entry while searching the early Durango records for a Lazaro Ortiz de San Pedro marrying a Maria de Chaide and Lazaro identifies his parents as Lazaro Ortiz de San Pedro and Maria Esquivel of Zacatecas.

I am hoping somebody out there familiar with the early Tlaltenango records can help me learn more about Lazaro Ortiz de San Pedro or Maria Esquivel. I'm guessing this would place the birth of Lazaro (the elder one) at around 1570-80. I saw some postings from several years ago and it appeared Arturo Ramos was very knowledgeable about the early families. Also, has anybody figured out why Ortiz has "de San Pedro" attached? Was there a place known as San Pedro in Spain?

Thank you.

Movie "For Greater Glory"

For us history buffs...(and also those of us who like Andy Garcia movies).....

Actor Andy Garcia joined Fox & Friends a few days ago to talk about his new movie, ‘For Greater Glory.’ In the film, he plays a general who gets recruited by the Cristero Army to help the Mexican citizens fight for religious freedom.

It’s based on true events that took place in the 1920s where 90,000 people died fighting over the course of three years.

Film opens in theaters on June 1st (already showing in Mexico).

In researching the offspring of Cristobal Mercado y Angela De Thorrez (6th ggparents) I located a marriage record for their daughter Angela Mercado.

Many of the words in this document are proving to be a challenge for me.  I would appreciate your help with the translation...

To Arturo (Webmaster)

Arturo,

Regarding the issue of many of us not receiving posts to NR that do appear if we sign in to the forum: one thing I notice is that the same thing is happening to me from accounts of friends and relatives that are not members of NR. I get fooled into opening links to Linked In, etc because the sender is the name of a cousin, etc.

Recently I copied the e-mail asking me to check my cousin's Linked In, and sent it to him. He is not a member of NR. He says he did not originate that e-mail. He has Yahoo. Also, my nephew who has Yahoo and not a member of NR either also told me recently that his account had been hacked, that many Yahoo accounts had been hacked, and that the weird messages I thought he was sending me were not sent by him. He had to delete his Yahoo password and get a new one.

However, like I told Joseph, all that does not account for the posts that don't come through to NR, unless they are from people who have Yahoo? I trust when you have the time you will figure this all out.

Thanks for all the hard work you have put in for the group.

Emilie

Not Receiving Posts

I am experiencing the same problem of not receiving very many e-mails. I had posted a question about Tlaltenango a couple of days ago and didn't see any responses. I thought perhaps the nature of the group had changed and people were not as helpful as they used to be. Then, I just checked the website and saw 4 people offered helpful comments. Thank you all who posted and I hope the problem gets fixed. I have a lot of questions these days regarding Zacatecas.

Can't find the marriage record of Sebastian Munoz and Sostenes Aguirre

Iv'e been trying to look for these two individuals baptism records or marriage records but nothing. The only info that i have on them is the following Sebastian Munoz from La Jabonera Nochistlan Zacatecas age 55 estimated birth year 1875.Maria Sostenes Aguirre resident of La Jabonera Nochistlan Zacatecas age 45 estimated birth year 1885.I got this info from the census down below
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MPT9-PKY
So please if anyone can help.

General Digest, Vol 82, Issue 5

Joseph......I also noticed that I do not receive many messages from NR and when they do come in they are definitely SPAM and I do not open them. I just thought everyone was busy and not posting much. I will let you know if I continue to receive this type message in the future.

Thanks for the great job you and Arturo do for us!

Josie
