i noticed that fmarriage records for people in this town prior to 1816 can't not be found in the tepetongo section of the familysearch website which cen be found in the following link

you are both welcome to any help I can provide in finding your Sanchez Castellanos line. The book Fundadores de Nueva Galicia Tomo I by Garamendia shows a Francisco Sanchez Castellano is in Tlaltenango before Nicolas on May 1st 1631.

Esta invitacion fue ya que segun el libro marca a un tal Francisco Sanchez Castellanos como uno de los primeros habitantes de Tlaltenango.

Yo tengo la genealogia de la descendencia de Juan Sanchez-Castellanos con Tomasina de Haro (AKA Tomasina de Saucedo) y no encuentro por ningun lado a ningun Francisco Sanchez-Castellanos, por lo que solicito su ayuda de si alguien que tenga el libro pudiera ayudarme a verificar esta informacion.

La idea es invitar a mas personas con el apellido Sanchez a hacerse la prueba de ADN y si comparten los mismos marcadores, orientarlos en su busqueda.

Actualmente existe otra persona de Nayarit que vive en Estados Unidos que coincide conmigo geneticamente y esta en esta busqueda.

I know his father is from Jalisco, therefore it's not such a stretch to think that he's from the Romo de Vivar family.

I have no objection to extending an invitation, I welcome it, we'd all love to help him with his genealogy.

I think he has a lot of personality. Growing up in Brawley Calif where his dad played ball in Mexicali, I'm sure he experienced a lot of prejudice, thus his choice of I just look illegal.

I'm a SF Giants fan and was wondering if Los Altos is the Epicenter of the
Romo de Vivar name. Is it very likely that historically Sergio Romo's
ancestors might come from Los Altos? Does anyone know if his genealogy has
been done? Would anyone object if I offered him an honorary membership in
the Nuestros Ranchos group? Hey maybe I could score an autographed ball or

OR is the Romo de Vivar name just as strong in other areas of Mexico? Am I
stretching to think that Sergio could easily be a cousin to many members of
the group?

The Haciendas of the condado de San Mateo Valparaíso were sold to the families
that had previously managed  the Haciendas for the Condes de San MateoValparaíso
(Las Haciendas Pertenecientes al Mayorazgo de San Mateo Valparaíso.)
For example:
 
San Mateowas bought by the Llaguno family.
San Miguel was bought by the del Hoyo family.
San Antonio de Sauceda was bought by the Estenuo family
Del Valle, San Agustín, DelAstillero, and others bought by Felguéres family.
Purísima de Carrillo was bought by the Zamorafamily
San Juan Capistranowas bought by the Soto Robles family
San Antonio de Padua was bought by the SotoPalacios
Sauceda was bought by the Miranda family.
 
This last Hacienda Sauceda and neighboring town San José de Llanetes plays a
important role during the Cristeros War.  My grandfather, José Barrios de León
was born at the Hacienda of San José de Llanetes.  In December 1927, a very
anti-religious time, the local priest Mateo Correa Magallanes was asked to visit
Don José Miranda's (the dueño of Sauceda) mother. On the way they were stopped
by soldiers, the priest was denounced as a priest and sent to jail. Later he was
shot and killed for his faith.  He refused to share with the local general what
the prisoners had told him during confession.  He was made a saint by Pope John
Paul II on the 21 of May, 2000. His remains are located in the chapel of San
Jorge Mártir in the Cathedral of Durango City, Durango.
 
Can anyone recommend books/sources that might help me understand what life was
like on these haciendas.  Would families interact between haciendas? What about
the hacendado's lives? Are there any memoires of the de la Campa y Cos family
members?  I thank you in advance for your time.

I have found records for this period in Bap 1639-1711, from images 274-452. The correct sequence resumes on image 452 (Jan, 1684). I hope this is helpful to others.

Hola a todos,

Hace tiempo llevo investigando a Lucas de Contreras, nacido alrededor de 1665, quien contrajo matrimonio con Juana Macías Valadez, originaria de Teocaltiche e hija de Diego Macías Valadez y Tomasa Fragoso de Chávez.

Todos los hijos de esta pareja nacieron en Nochistlán. Sin embargo no he podido localizar el origen de Lucas de Contreras. Sé que tuvo una hermana llamada Josefa de Contreras, casada con Diego Macías Valadez, hermano de la ya citada Juana Macías.

No se sabe si Lucas era originario de Teocaltiche al igual que su esposa, o de Nochistlán donde nacieron sus hijos y murió éste, o de plano de otro lado. En Nochistlán hay solo un par de Contreras en la época. El único casado más o menos en esas fechas fue un José de Contreras, quien era hijo de Diego de Contreras y de Francisca Sánchez Montes de Oca, originarios de Aguascalientes, y éste a su vez de Juan de Contreras y Mariana Ruiz de Aldana.

Sé que el multinombrado libro de Genealogías de Nochistlán hace varias menciones de Lucas de Contreras, pero no he podido revisarlo para ver qué dice exactamente.

Agradezco de antemano cualquier información.

Researching Lagos de Moreno Records I came across Fabricas. Lists of deaths, including cost and names. Is this the working of the 'hacienda'? Was the death then listed in the church records? Very curious. A wealth of info listed.

I did an autosomal DNA test with FamilyTreeDNA. The Population Finder results were very misleading since they use only the groups with the highest portion of certain DNA markers. For example Finnish for northern European. These markers actually peak with in Finland but are also found at 41% in the País Vasco per the 1,000 Genomes project. Does this mean the people of the País Vasco are 41% Finnish? No, it means that both people of the País Vasco and the people of Finland share some ancestors. Those ancestors were most likely originally from somewhere else and their descendants ended up in those locations and others. One thing Population Finder was very close on is my Native American (Mexican Indian) ancestry at 11% +/- 1%. Even though I have mulatos libres in my ancestry the African portion did not even register.

One of the great things about Family Finder, apart from the cost of the sale price, is the ability to download the autosomal DNA results. This allowed me to use my own data and compare it against multiple databases that are freely downloadable which Dienekes Pontikos has incorporated into his Dodecad software, which is also freely downloadable at http://dodecad.blogspot.com/2011/09/do-it-yourself-dodecad-v-21.html and his latest globe13 calculator which includes an Amerindian population analysis, as well as another 12, and is at http://dodecad.blogspot.com/2012/10/globe13-calculator.html

The globe13 calculator analyzed my ancestry and broke it down into the 13 populations of Siberian, Amerindian, West_African, Palaeo_African, Southwest_Asian, East_Asian, Mediterranean, Australasian, Arctic, West_Asian, North_European, South_Asian, and East_African.

Being able to analyze my data against all of those other databases, and break them up into 13 populations, has made my Family Finder test worthwhile. 23andme also allows for downloads of autosomal DNA. Ancestry.com does not yet allow it. This was an extremely awful oversight. It is like going to the store and buying multiple items and not being given a receipt on how much you were charged for each item. So far, Ancestry.com doesn't tell you the values of each DNA segment you have. They only tell you the total according to their terminology. This will supposedly change in the future, but customers shouldn't have to wait. National Geographic Geno 2.0, which is done by FamilyTreeDNA, is supposed to allow you to download your data. All of the companies use the same process for extracting your DNA but Ancestry.com doesn't allow you to use your own DNA results. The autosomal matching with any company is extremely sketchy based on my results and those of others.

In short, my suggestion is for every member that gets an autosomal DNA test should do it with a company that allows downloads, learn to download their markers, use DIYDodecad v 2.1, use the calculators published by Dienekes, and to be able to read the spreadsheets of each calculator in order to accurately interpret the results. The caveat is that some populations cannot be proven, only deduced, even with DNA.

If there is anyone that has questions about this or would like assistance in this please let me know. It can get complicated for people of mixed ancestry.

In my Jalisco family branch ancestor, the surnames Herrera and Santiago are so intertwining and tricky-confusing.

Most of the earlier ancestors use Herrera de Santiago as a surname.

However, the monkey wrench, many descendants, even in the SAME family, use one or more of these three variations:

1. Herrera de Santiego

2. Herrera

3. Santiago

In addition, many individuals are identified with any or all three variations in different Church records:

i.e. in the Baptism Record that individua's surnamel is HERRERA and/or in the Marriage Record it's SANTIAGO and/or in their children's Records that same individual's surname is HERRERA DE SANTIAGO.

I thought that perhaps the earliest ancestor's surname that used HERRERA DE SANTIAGO also used the mother's surname, BUT, that was NOT the case (so far).

It appears that the surname in the baptism, marriage, or death record on the very same individual of any generation is pure happenstance!

Me acabo de encontrar con Andrés de Martín y María de las Ruelas, como ancestros por parte de mi abuela paterna. Me han surgido diversas dudas acerca de la ascendencia de estas dos personas. Buscando en Internet y en algunas otras publicaciones al respecto en esta página, me he encontrado con que Andrés de Martín también usaba el apellido Camacho y que María de las Ruelas también era conocida como María de Isla y Moctezuma. También el apellido Sotomayor está relacionado con ellos, ya que entre otros hijos que tuvieron está María de Sotomayor, casada con Juan Montañes, quién según lo que he visto era originario de Salamanca, España. Ellos tuvieron otra hija, Luisa de Sotomayor, casada con Juan Romero Gallardo, originario de Puebla e hijo de Diego Romero y Jacinta Valero. A su vez, de este matrimonio nació Jacinta Romero Sotomayor, quién casó con Nicolás del Castillo y Quesada y ellos dos son ancestros directos de mi abuela, quién lleva el apellido Castillo.

También encontré esta página que muestra la posible ascendencia de María de las Ruelas o María de Isla, pero desconozco si los datos son correctos y su referencia.

i found the marriage dispensation for francisco valenzuela and margarita ortega. the writing is very hard to read. i can get the parents names on of francisco's grandfathers names, but the explanation on how the couple is related i just plain confusing.

Tengo una duda sobre archivos históricos en Nochistlán. Si el registro religioso de defunción de los años 1700-1720 muestra que los personajes hicieron testamento, ¿dónde podría encontrarlos? ¿existirán todavía? ¿si la persona era de Mexticacán pero su partida se asentó en Nochistlán?

Below is a link to the image of the burial record for Urvana Lira, which I found today. She was married to Rafael Romo/Femat, who for a while lived in Ojocaliente, Zacatecas. (From there they went to Saltillo, and then to Nadadores, Coahuila - researched by Bernardo Menchaca).

Date of burial 26 June 1832. Image 25 in Family Search, Coahuila, Nadadores, Nuestra Señora de la Victoria, Defunciones, 1829-1878.

Rafael Romo is mentioned in her record as already deceased - the year 1832 was noted in Gedcom, but I can see now that thats actually for Urvana, unless they died in the same year...

As Bernardo has pointed out in a previous post, Rafael Romo used the name Femat before he began using the name Romo.

In gedcom, 1832 Nadadores is used in reference to Raphael Prudencio Romo's death, so I would use caution in assuming that Raphael Prudencio was buried in Nadadores - the only primary source I have seen on Raphael Prudencio Romo is his record of birth. Prudencio is not a name on any of the sources I have so far seen on Rafael Femat aka Romo which link him to Urvana Lira. But if anyone else has seen such a document...please post!

I was hoping to find an Informacion Matrimonial for my forebears, Manuel Romo and Maria Ygnacia Rodrigues, who got married in Nadadores (Coahuila) in 1816. I have not been able to locate them in Family Search...In a previous post, another member (George Fulton) mentioned that there were no informaciones matrimoniales for Coahuila (which was under Monterrey) before 1888. Or are they just filed in another archdiocese? Or were they just not required for everyone? Are they in the archives but just not online (I think that's what George meant?)

A more general question:
Do these petitions always get filed where the marriage takes place, or always where the bride lives, or always where the groom lives?(Manuel was originally from Aguascalientes).

I don't know how else to write and ask this question, so here goes.

Does anybody have or know information on Nicolas Guerra(born in 1830 and baptized in Encarnacion) I believe his Father was Ygnacio Guerra. And Mother Maria Margarita Garcia(Born 1808 in Ojuelos).

Nicolas Guerra Married November 1st 1854 in Encarnacion to Bernarda Gallo(Born Date Unknown) daughter of Anastacio Gallo and Juana Espinoza.

Nicolas had a Son named Abrahan Guerra Gallo born in 1868 baptized in San Juan de Los Lagos(Probably born in Lomelines). He Married Marciana Jimenez (born in 1868 Encarnacion) Abrahan's last born was Pedro Guerra Jimenez this was my grandfather.

All this I know and feel confident on because it was given to me direct from older relatives. Recently I have just confirmed it through church records.

The part I am asking about, is Where is YGNACIO GUERRA from? The only ones I have found that would be born around late 1700's and early 1800's were the sons of Francisco Xavier Guerra Gomes. However one of those Ygnacio's was the bishop and I can't seem to find any other information on the other Ygnacio son he had besides baptism information.

Am I looking in the wrong Guerra Branch?

Any help would be welcomed. This is all new to me and I am open to suggestions. I also have thick skin, so don't hold back:)

The record I'm looking at is the second from the last, the baptism of Aniceta Gertrudis Bonal. What I'm trying to figure out is the surname of the godmother, Maria Anna (?). I'm just assuming that the godfather Silvestre Gutierrez is related to Gertrudis's mother, Ysabel Gutierrez. Knowing the godmother's surname might help me find additional information about my Gutierrez line.

i found a marriage dispensation for the couple. go to page 258 and read the right page carefully. you'll find how the couple relate to each other. i also learned from that some people in this family had the last name de aro instead of miramontes.
