Meeting in Sacramento

Maria,

I would love to meet with you and anyone else in the group. I go up there once or twice a month as my daughter lives in Roseville, my mom in Citrus Heights, my sister in Auburn and my brother in Carmichael, all within close proximity of Sacaramento.

Thanks for the invite, let me know where and when.

Hasta luego...........Alicia Carrillo de San Jose, Ca

introduction

Welcome Sally,

I wanted to mention that I have a Villalobos line from Lagos and
several Diaz lines (one from Jalostotitlan). I also have a Luna line
from Tepechitlan, Zac. When you have some time please take a look at
my genealogy reports and see if we have any matches.

Regards,

A "WILD GUESS" only...

Jose Maria Miramontes was a probable padrino

parents... thus ( ).

Jose Maria Miramontes could of been the father, died,
and the viuda remarried prior to childs birth.

Jose Maria Miramontes may have been related to Maria
Guadalupe De Luna. I make this statement based on a
theory,,, relations of the Miramontes and De Luna from
Tlaltenango, Zacatecas in the first half of the 17th
century:

Father's paranthetical name

I will venture my opinion regarding this matter.  I haven't found any similar record but this is my opinion.

I believe both names refer to the same person, Jose Maria Miramontes and Telesforo Gutierrez.  But the scribe, unwilling to act against his conscience and being in any way untruthful, he decided to write the person's baptismal given name and the person's self-declared, newly (for whatever reasons) adopted name.  Besides, the church's sacramental books were privy objects, or so they thought at that time, so who would question?.

Father's paranthetical name

Could it also be that, at the baptism, conflicting information was given by
the parties present, and the sacristan or priest noted all names, but put in
parentheses that info that did not sound likely to be the case?

Arturo,

It has been my experience in my own
research  that in  a Mexican record,  anything in parenthesis
means the information  (within the parenthesis) is wrong. Apparently
parenthesis  is used to denote that a mistake was made when entering
the informaion.

I would bet that Miramontes was  someone
from the area but not necessarily a relative.  As for the other names, I
would advise you to look for other actas for the same family to be sure that
the names entered are the grandparents.  I have seen plenty of

Arturo and Elvira,

At my local FHC they are doing transcriptions for their 10-yr digitizing
project (they were sent CD's of original records on microfilm--wish I had them),
and since I am the only Hispanic in these parts, I get called on to read certain
records and interpret them.  The most recent incident concerned one record
that had precisely what you describe and I was at a loss to explain.  We
looked at the original transcription as it appears on the current IGI, and they
had left out the info that was in parentheses, so I just told them to leave
it out also.  Maybe Jonathan can shed light on this, or maybe Joseph
can contact someone in Mexico and ask about it.  I told the people at FHC
that Mexican records should be transcribed and edited by volunteers who were
born and raised in Mexico and have some knowledge of genealogical records
there.  I guess they can't get enough volunteers in Mexico to do
this?  They wanted me to help, but I demurred, unless it is an

Hello Emilie,

I don't know if I can be much help with the Olague surname but I will
give you what information I have. I have two Olague lines that I found
just this year. One is when I found my ancestors Pedro Chavez Banuelos
married to Aguada Olague in 1681 whos parents are Miguel Olague and
Juana De La Torre Del Rio. The other line is Sebastiana Olague married
to Francisco Davila Caldera in 1713 no parents for her because she was
married before to a Nicolas Dena. But I did find a despensa in the
Sagrada Mitra book that says Sebastiana was the hija natural of Jorge
Olague doesn't give her mothers name.
Thank you and all the group for your warm welcome. Since I came upon
this site it has been so enjoyable reading all those messages.

Regards
Sally

sounding like yours and the sacristan had ususlly made a mistake entering the
grand parents.  Then again, it could be that the names were as entered and
the family used different last names  as was the custom at times.
Since you did not include the entire text I can't say any more than that
regarding the grandparents.

Who is this man Jose Maria Miramontes and what is his relation to this
baptism?
