These forum posts are from the old “Ranchos Archives” which was part of a Yahoo Groups system that operated between 2003-2006. This was a hybrid of electronic mailing lists and internet message boards. The files are “Read Only” and many of the users of the Yahoo Groups are not part of the new NuestrosRanchos membership, so keep this in mind when viewing these message posts and replies.

You are welcome, Emily. Gracious and courteous as always even with little details like this. We'd all do good by following your example and act as if there is a person behind each other's monitor and keyboard! Victor,
Thanks for that last tip. That will save me lots of time if I can avoid getting that message about "if you only enter a last name, you must not enter another field" or something to that effect.

I agree with you,
Natalie! I think we can learn a lot from other people's
contributions. I am still learning a lot about this computer and I
really look for easier ways to do things. A file of research tips is a
great idea!

I am in favor of a file of research tips - where all
the wonderful and
helpful tips can be consolidated or listed. I need
all the help I can
get :)!

Is anyone here old enough to remember a book published in 1959 titled "Nine Days to Christmas", by Marie Hall Ets, illustrated by Aurora Labastida? Ms. Labastida was awarded the 1960 Caldecott Award for her illustrations. It is about the nine days of posadas in Mexico. One of my favorites. Natalie Coleman, VA
I just attended the posada on Olvera Street this past Christmas, so the tradition is still alive, even in the United States. I have a childhood friend who has started hosting a posada at Christmas time among her friends (who are all Chicanos) and their kids. We used to get together with a very large group of family and friends as kids in San Gabriel, California for the Posada every Christmas. If I remember correctly, it was done for several days, because I remember families taking turns at hosting. There were always bags of goodies for the kids after the ritual of parading and asking for shelter.. and champurrado. --- In ranchos@yahoogroups.com, "Erlinda Castanon-Long"wrote: > > In the early 50's they did a Posada at the Catholic church in our > town, Stockton Ca. that had the largest Mexican population. Angie, I found that the percentage sign does act as a wildcard, at least in some instances. For example if you enter a last name and want to apply a filter in Events, and/or Year Range and/or State, if you leave the First Name field blank you'll get an arror message. But doing that same query with "%" in the First Name field you'll get back a recordset. Have I saved my honor? -- jk -- ;-) Victor --- In ranchos@yahoogroups.com, "aajay1073"wrote: > Victor, > > Too funny...when I started working on my family tree in 1998, I did > create my own program, which I still use today.
