Jerez, Zacatecas. La Inmaculada

Arturo,

What a wonderful trip you had. Thank you so much
for sharing your experience with us.
About the records in La Inmaculada and Colotlan. I
think we should try to get them microfilm. According with the person in
charge of the archives in the church(La Inmaculada), many of them were in
reasonable condition (enough for be able to read them). Josie sent an
e-mail with the information with the contact in Salt Lake City. When I called
the library in Utah I didn't speak with her. Also Maria suggested to
contact ADABI. I will contact both routes. Please do the same. I have to go to
Mexico in one or two months, and I was planning to spend a few days in Jerez, if
I can get access to the archives. I wrote an e-mail to the Bishop in Zacatecas.
I'm hoping to get a respond from them shortly. In my e-mail I explained
what I was doing, and requested permission to get access to the archives
or information about the procedure to grant such access. I don't know
if I have to

Ojos, Dientes, Lengua, Cabeza

You are correct, Mary. The reason you didn't found the word is
because the correct spelling is hocico.

And it is not a bad word in itself. But it is an impolite and even
offensive expression to say to others because it implies that you're
dealing with animals.

It is as impolite as asking someone before entering your house to
"límpiate las patas", because as we know only animals have "patas" and
humans have "pies".

These kind of expressions are acceptable only jockingly with close
friends or sometimes they reflect a mother's frustration with a
difficult child.

But as I recall, it is not really bad in itself. Correct me if I am
wrong, but it means "snout" or the mouth of an animal. What makes it
"bad" is who says it, to whom, why and how. When the mother said it,

I'm surprised I could not find the word "osico" in my dictionary.  But as I recall, it is not really bad in itself.  Correct me if I am wrong, but it means "snout" or the mouth of an animal.  What makes it "bad" is who says it, to whom, why and how.   When the mother said it, it just surprised the students because they didn't expect it of her.  It's not something a nice person would say to others.    As a teacher, I have heard it on the playground and they were fighting words.

I might better keep the words I've heard in my youth to myself if I
don't know the complete root and previous historical use of such words.
If I slip up and do this again please do remind me.

When my dad was teaching my mother Spanish,
he was teaching her bad words. She was taking citizenship class and the
teacher asked my mother to take care of the class while she stepped out. As
soon as the teacher left, the class was buzzing. My mother, very
authoritatively, told the class to "Callense el osico," thinking she was
telling them to be quiet. She said you could hear a pin drop, and someone told
her what she had really said. Marge:)

Wow!
That's quite a price-hike!  Why so much?  Has anyone ever asked if
they are going to offer online request where we could request films online,
request the FHC we'd like the films sent and pay with a credit card, all
online?  Not that my FHC's are far, but it seems like a worth while
alternative.  Also, who could I send this suggestion to?

Yes, they have also
done

Ramos and Cardenas Familes

I can also attest to that. Angie is one outstanding
genealogist/analyst. A while back she helped me connect with another
Ranchos member. I had looked at her report and missed the connection,
but lucky for me Angie didn't.

Kudos Angie--I'm glad you're part of this group.
