Dear Myrtle

I would highly recommend listening to the Dear Myrtle Genealogy podcast
for information that can help us in our research. Specifically she had a
great show with some powerful resources on recording "Oral History."

successful trip & Garana surname

Hello Victor,

I have searched the surname Grana but found nothing.  I do know that Jose Adalberto Garana was born in 1873 and that his first child was born in 1905.  That leads me to believe that he probably married @ 1904.  Of course, I recall once when he made my grandmother angry, she accused him of being Cuban.  But, searching Cuba didn't help. Yesterday, I had an e-mail from a person who said that a  Garrana had gone from Malta to Lebanon and then possibly to Mexico.  I am working on that.

I have one other possibility. Maybe I can find information through the Jesuits. There may be a central house in Mexico that would have membership files.  I have that as one of my tasks.  In fact, that may be the only way to find him.  I really suspect that Garana was not his real name at all or it may have been his mother's name.  My grandfather was so intelligent, so
educated, so aristocratic and very difficult to get along with and his past seemed obsured by vagueness and mystery.

Mary,

I guess this is just an idle question, but have you searched the
surname Grana and/or Grama?

Also, if the person in question was associated with the Augustinians
and the Jesuits, have you considered the possibility that he was not
born in México but elsewhere?

Just some thoughts!

Victor

Has anyone ever come across the surname GARANA? I am looking for any
information about my grandfather JOSE ADALBERTO GARANA and my
grandmother PETRA ROMERO GONZALEZ (GARANA). She lived in Salinas del

She was the child of VICTOR ROMERO GALVAN and the grandchild of MONICO
ROMERO CARRERA who may have lived in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco.

Of JOSE ADALBERTO GARANA I know only that he was somehow associated
with the Augustinians as a child and that later he was a jesuit

Batch number searches.

Jose,

A "Batch Number Search", is certain, way to search the IGI at
FamilySearch.org, where you can narrow your search parameters, down to
the City and Parish Level. Provided, that you know the batch numbers,
for the area where you are searching. There are two places, to find
the Batch Numbers, one is the IGI itself (as you perform searches, you
can look at the bottom of the screen and see the source information,
such as film number, and the batch number, if one has been assigned.),
the second way, is by looking at the "Parish and Vital Records List",
that is only available on microfiche at your local FHC, if they still
have it.

The CD mentioned, is a resource disc, that I have compiled from
different sources, such as genealogy conferences, websites, and other
sources. Because, there is lots of information available, about
hispanic research, but there is no central location, for it all.
Also, on the disc, there is a scanned copy, of the "Parish and Vital
Records List", for

DOES  ANYONE IN THE GROUP HAVE JAUREGUI FAMILY IN CHIH, CHIH?  I KNOW IT'S NOT OUR TARGET AREA BUT I HAVEN'T HAD ANY LUCK FINDING THE BIRTH PLACE FOR MERCEDES JAUREGUI WHO MARRIED GABRIELA MOLINA ABT ABOUT 1880.        YOLANDA M PEREZ

Hi Alicia--

Would you look up one name for me in your book?  I have an ancestor, Maria Manuela Duran, who was married in 1732 in Tlaltenango, so I guess she was born around 1715
or so.  Her marriage record notes that she was born in Nochistlan, but it did not note  her parents' names.  She married Domingo Perez.

Rosalinda,

I took the time to do the lookup and I find that all of the Maria Duran's in this book were born prior to 1700. It may be that she's the daughter of one of these Duranes. The name Duran is very prominent in Nochistlan, Teocaltiche and Xalostitlan.

HOLA ALICIA,   IN MY HUSBAND'S LINE I FOUND JUAN DE YNIGUES MARRIED TO JACINTHA BUGARIN, I FOUND 7 CHILDREN FOR THEM AND A MARRIAGE DATE OF APRIL 1820 IN ATOLINGA, ZACATECAS.  COULD ANY OF THIS BE IN YOUR BOOK?   I HAVEN'T LOOKED FOR INFO ON HIS LINE BUT I WAS JUST WONDERING.    GRACIAS   YOLANDA

I'm afraid I was too hasty in saying that the Xauregui's were not to be found in Jose Luis' book. You know what they say, haste makes waste.
I found many chapters that reference Xauregui's. I did not find them initially because they fall under the descendants of families of different names. The book has 100 chapters but none of the chapters have titles with Xauregui's listed.

In order to find this surname you must go to the other index towards the back of the book which identifies pages where a specific surname can be found.

If anyone wants me to do a lookup just give me a name and an approximate date. Most of the

I agree Isais is a beautiful name.  This particular person was Elias Isais. He married Maria Guadalupe Romero a daughter of Maria Guadalupe Salinas and Marcelino Romero De Esnaurrizar. I suspect this family  lived in San Luis Potosi, SLP.

Enrique has a fabulous photo of the first De Esnaurrizar on the tree.  I saw the original, in fact. Enrique pulled it out of a little velvet covered box.  It is a profile carved out of wax. It was beautiful with the high collar and the curling sideburn.  This gentleman was quite important and a political figure in San Luis Potosi.   Feliz Navidad!   Mary
