IN DOING RESEARCH IN THE JALISCO CHURCH RECORDS I FOUND A GREAT AUNT PETRA TORRES THAT MARRIED VALERIO MACIAS ON 2 JULY 1814 AND IT LIST BOTH AS BEING INDIOS. BUT HOW CAN I FIND THE TYPE OF INDIOS THEY WERE. I FOUND THIS IN THE JALISCO CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS FROM ENCARNACION DE DIAZ MATRIMONIOS 1778 - 1830 FILM PAGE WAS 503.I HAD HEARD THAT MY RELATIVES WERE AZTEC BUT I HAVE NOT VERIFIED THIS YET.. THIS MY FIRST TIME POSTING ANYTHING SO I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE PROPER FORMAT, ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. MY ID IS HERJOE59

There are many people from the region that would like to know which Indian
tribes their ancestors came from but there really is no way to know for
sure. We know that the original Indians in the area were zacatecos,
cazcanes, tecuexes and guachichiles see

Encarnación cuenta con un gran legado rico en historia y evolución que ha
dejado su huella. Ya en los comienzos del actual milenio se encontraba el
territorio intensamente transitado por diversos pueblos chichimecas como
los tecuexes, guachichiles, zacatecos y caxcanes quienes de una vida social
de cazadores pasaron al nomadismo y luego a la forma aldeana. Dejaron
vestigios de su civilización en la zona arqueológica ubicada en la meseta
del Tule al suroeste del municipio.
There were tribes of Tlaxcaltecas and Otomíes that assisted the Spaniards
in the Chichimeca war and mixed and settled with the local Indians so you
could have a mix.

You might have some Aztec ancestry but if so it is probably a minority of
your Indian ancestry.
It's unfortunate that so many people from the region, even my own close
relatives, think that we have Aztec ancestry when we likely have very
little.
My grandmother had a lot of Indian ancestors from Encarnación de Díaz.

Armando I agree finding the correct band or tribe is very hard. My paternal line is from Zacatecas and my maternal in Jalisco but in Michoacán before that. I did have the MTDNA test done to see the nationality of my first Mother. It came back haplogroup A and the bands/tribes include Nahua which is part of the Aztec nation. Sadly I have not been able to take it further back then mid 1800's in Michoacán but I will keep looking but on my paternal line in Jerez, Zac I don't think I will ever know the exact Native lines I have.

Yes, Nahua is a UtoAztecan language and mtDNA is found among the Nahua
speakers but mtDNA A is not specific to Nahua, it is found all over the
Americas all the way from Alaska to Argentina. So even though it found
among Nahua it is also found among Mayans, Zapotecas, and Purépechas which
all speak different languages. So you are correct in stating that you might
never know which Native lines you have.

The following study shows that A1 (A2 descends from A1) exists in Native
tribes from the Tarahumara (Rarámuri) and peaks in the Maya.

A recently published study shows that A2 existed in Argentina in ancient
remains they have found. It probably still does exist there. You can

Indians of Mexico
I come from a tribe that lived in the valleys of southeast part of Zacatecas and northern Jalisco.
They were the Huichols tribe.

That is soooo cool Rudy, that you know which tribe you come from. Most of
us can only guess based on where our ancestors lived. In that part of
Zacatecas and Jalisco there were the Huicholes, Caxcanes, Guachichiles and
the Zacatecos who were from Northern Zacatecas.

yeah i haven't figured out what tribe my native ancestors were from either. in the region my mom's ancestors came from, the main tribes there were huichols, caxcans, zacatecos, and the tlaxacalan colonists.
