Hacienda y Ranchos de Pinos, Zacatecas

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find information on the Hacienda de las Gallinas, The Rancho del Peñuelo and the Rancho del Pueblito, all located in Pinos, Zacatecas. How to find out who owned them around 1860-1918.

Researching Acevedo's and De La Vega in Tepetongo, Zacatecas.

My ggggrandfather was named Juan Jose Acevedo or (de Asevedo), he had

3 sons, Jose Toribio born @ 1773, Jose Maria born @ 1785, and Bernardo born

about 1787, I found all 3 marriage records for them but could not find their birth

For those that are researching on Colotlan, I have in my library a book
"Compendio de la historia de Colotlan" compilador: Prof. Felipe Valdez
Pacheco, 1591-2000
It contains mostly history of the foundation of Colotlan, the first
inhabitants, first Spanish Villa, Colonial, Independence, Cristiada,
Revolution and modern times.
It has a limited genealogy but it contains a list of the indios de Tlaxcala
they came to live among the chichimecas in 1591. List of government
authorities from 1591-1998, list of Religious individuals 1589-2000, and
list of some known people that die in the 1900's. and some biography of
some individuals.

If any one want for me to look for some thing special I will be happy to
look it up and share the information.

Hi Silvia,

Thank you for your offer to look in the book on Colotlan. I'm interested in finding information on 6 people (3 couples), ancestors of mine, who lived there around 1740. They are:

Any information on them will be very appreciated.

Hector:

I too am descendant from Agustin Enriquez and Maria Josepha del Castillo through their son Juan Joseph and his wife Josefa Antonia Madera:

My paternal grandmother's surnames were Gutierrez Enriquez.

I would love to get a copy of the book that Silvia mentions. It seems the author, who is an ex-mayor of Colotlan, is still active academically... perhaps we can track him down. I would also like to get a copy of a couple of other Colotlan history books. One is by Nicolas Valdes Huerta and Jean Meyer and another by Renato Haro Ortega and Bernardo Carlos Casas.

I'm descendant from Roberto Enriquez and his wife Juana Antonia Josefa Rosalia, but haven't been able to go beyond theirs parents, as well as oh Alejandro Márquez de los Olivos and Agustina de Escobedo.

I've tried to find the books by these authors without success. If anyone knows where to get them, please let us know.

Hello Hector,

Your message caught by attention since I too am researching the Marquez de los Olivos from the Colotlan area. I am acutally researching two different families whom I suspect are related to one another but I haven't found their common ancestor yet. One couple are my 7th great-grandparents from my father's side and the other couple are my 6th great-grandparents from my mother's side.

(1) Phelipe MARQUES DE LOS OLIBOS married Francisca Xaviera SANCHEZ.

Their children were as follows:
i. Joseph MARQUES DE LOS OLIBOS. He married on 28 Jan 1732 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Monica Josepha ROSALES, daughter of Joseph ROSALES and Phelipa de la Trinidad (---).
ii. Joseph MARQUES. He married on 1 Nov 1735 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Simona RAMIREZ, daughter of Diego RAMIREZ and Maria DE ORTEGA.
iii. Maria Manuela MARQUES. She married Francisco BONILLA.
iv. Josepha MARQUES SANCHEZ, christened 9 May 1720 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.
v. Ana de San Joachin MARQUES SANCHEZ, christened 25 Oct 1722 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.
vi. Francisco Xavier MARQUES DE LOS OLIBOS. He married on 22 Feb 1751 in Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico Maria Narciza SANCHEZ CASTELLANO, daughter of Phelipe Manuel SANCHEZ and Josepha de los Santos SANDOVAL.
vii. Joseph Antonio MARQUES. He married on 3 Mar 1726 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Juana Francisca GAMBOA, daughter of Augustin DE GAMBOA and Simona DE ORTEGA

(2) Francisco MARQUES DE LOS OLIBOS married Theresa RAMIREZ DE LA ROSA.

Their children were as follows:
i. Luiza Theresa MARQUES DE LOS OLIBOS. She married on 12 Jun 1740 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Juan Mathias DE CARDENAS, son of Bartholome DE CARDENAS and Barbara GUTIERRES.
ii. Antonia Petronila MARQUES RAMIREZ, christened 12 Jul 1719 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. She married on 12 Jun 1740 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Christobal de los Santos DE CARDENAS, son of Bartholome DE CARDENAS and Barbara GUTIERRES.
iii. Mathias Nicolas MARQUES RAMIREZ, christened 12 Apr 1722 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. He married (1) on 10 Jul 1748 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Juana Anttonia ROMERO RAMIREZ, christened 5 Jul 1733 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, daughter of Francisco Xavier ROMERO and Maria de la Trinidad RAMIREZ; (2) on 24 Oct 1752 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico Antonia Marcela DE RESA.
iv. Mathias MARQUES RAMIREZ, christened 28 Dec 1724 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.

vii. Rosalia MARQUES RAMIREZ, christened 11 Jan 1737 in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Your other couple, "Jose de la Trinidad Flores and María Gertrudis de Ortega" look familar also. I am going to check my notes and see what I can find on them.

Let me know if anything looks familar.

Thanks,
Angie Godina

Comment

Hi Angie,

I have identified the 2 couples that you mentioned, but none seems to be the parents of my Alejandro Marquez de los Olivos, unless Alejandro was born before the first date of parish records kept in Colotlan.

I have the following parents for the first couple:

Jose Marquez de los Olivos (son of Miguel Marquez de los Olivos y Luisa de Figueroa) and Gertrudis Rincon de Ortega, married in Cienega de Mata on 16th December, 1671.

Bartolome Sanchez and Josefa Cabañez.

Jose de la Trinidad Flores and Gertrudis de Ortega were mestizos. In all but one of the entries for their children Jose de la Trinidad appears only with that name, without "Flores". If you find something on them, please let me know.

Regards,
Hector

Film/Batch numbers for Santa Anita, Jalisco

For those interested in doing research relating to the Pueblo of Santa Anita, Jalisco, here is a listing of 6 Film/Batch numbers not listed in the Films section of Nuestros Ranchos:

Film 0224902/Batch C603041 1759-1767 Santa Anita, Jalisco

Efrain:

Thank you so much for your work in compiling the numbers of these batch numbers for the parrish of Santa Anita. It appears that this parrish is now part of the municipality of Tlaquepaque, so given the way our database is organized, these films and batch numbers should be entered under that municipality.

Please let us know if you can do that... you should designate them for the particular parrish (e.g. Baptisms Santa Anita 1871-1875) in the description. If you are unable to do it, we can find someone else to enter them.

Thank you again.

Nieves Martinez Robles Family of Aguascalientes

Does anyone have a family line that taps into this one? I am afraid there is not mich info, which is why I came to this site. I hope to find others who have relatives in common and that we can share information. I am not even sure this is the place to post this, but here goes! This is my addition to the database:

If you know the date that your grandparents crossed you can probably
find their border crossing records which will have their birthdates,
birthplaces and other valuable information. Do you know where they
crossed the border? In addition, their social security records will
have their parents' names.

Is this one of your relatives?

>From what sources have you compiled this information? Have you
searched the IGI and VRI on familysearch.org to try to find your
grandparents or great-grandparents?

You should post this very detailed and informative message as your
representative genealogy in a file folder to make it easy for members
to locate the information later on.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Arturo
As far as I know the Nieves Robles you mentioned is not a relative but on the other hand the name is not that common...
I think they crossed at El Paso, Tx. I will look up the social security info, I believe Ihave both their numbers.
Re the sources, it is from death certificates and my grandfathers own writings - I have a sheet on which he listed all the family birthdays, the date the crossed the border, etc. The great grandparents' names came from family members. Unfortunately this family didn't care too much about genealogy until I came along, and now the older siblings, including my dad, are gone but I will be talking to younger ones.
Thank you for your assistance and suggestions, I appreciate it!

John:

Your father's own baptism certificate will likely list his grandparents. If you know what parrish in Aguascalientes he was baptized in, you can probably get the film for that parrish through the Family History Center and then you would have four of your great-granparents' names documented.

Also, do you know what present-day municipality Ojo de Agua de Rosales and Hacienda de los Campos are in? I looked in Cubas' Diccionario Geogafico and only found an "Ojo de Agua" (with no Rosales) in Aguascalientes in the partido of Calvillo... but it may now be a different municipality.

Also, the IGI shows a number of children born around the time of your grandfather with the parents listed as Marcial Robles and Panfila Munoz. Strange coincidence? Perhaps a thread worth following. I can't seem to tell what film the entries are coming from, however:

This is an old posting, and I haven't been here in a while, but I found through diligent search in IGI the name 'Marcial Robles Ojeda', born in San Jose, Calvillo, Ags. This is thrilling to me because my great grandfather's name was Marcial, but I didn't know where he came from. My grandfather Nieves, however, was born in Ojo de Agua de Rosales, and Ojo de Agua is listed as also being in the partido of Calvillo, so this is very likely my great grandfather! He was born in 1839, and my grandfather was born in 1884, so Marcial would have been 45 when Nieves was born, which is entirely likely. I am leaning toward this being my great grandfather, from the year, the location and the name. As a bonus, it lists his parents names, Juan de Robles and Ynocencia Ojeda!! Yay!

Lynn,

I am one of those (7,000) Beta testers of the Pilot for FamilySearch Labs'
"Record Search", and when Brady indicated his accessing the 1930 Mexico
Census data at familysearch.org , it raised a question about an alternate
way to consult this census that I might not have been aware.

Those focusing on Jalisco may want to note that, officially, the State of
Jalisco is divided/composed of 126 "municipalities" and, for personal
assistance in my continuing research through Jalisco and Mexico records, I
have compiled a comparison listing of those Jalisco municipalities
presently listed in the "Record Search Browse Collection" of the 1930
Mexico Census being tested.

The Jalisco portion of the Browse Collection in the Pilot includes 107 of
these municipalities, with 29 not listed in the Collection (missing or
"lost" as you previously very ably indicated), and 6 areas that I will call
"comarcas" that are not designated as official municipalities (Amatitan,
Arenal, Ayo el Chico, Ciudad Guzman, Purificacion, and Villa Obregon).

In the near and anxiously-awaited future, Mexico genealogy researchers will
have available a very important new tool with the ability to consult and
view online images of its1930 census records. We can all be very thankful
to the LDS Church for this project and all of its Family History efforts, -
- - and to Lynn for her interest in keeping the Nuestros Ranchos 'family'
informed about this program, and her clarifications and updates.

Tomas Xaques

I need help researching a Tomas Xaques(Jaques, Jaquez). He was from Sombrerete , Zacatecas .
He married in 1679 in San Juan del Rio, Durango. So I estimate he was born about 1654.
The baptismal records there begin at 1679 and the matrimonies at 1695 so they are not much use.

Genealogy presenters

I've done several genealogy presentations--one for our local genealogy society and two for our local library. I enjoyed doing them but the best part was showing people HOW to do their own. I had a computer set up and a big screen, then I went to the Familysearch.org.

Genealogy Presenters

Hello All,

I just had a quick question, for everyone. How many of us, here in the Ranchos group, teach research classes or give genealogy presentations?

And I will be the first to say that, I do (In fact I teach a weekly class, and will be presenting at 2 conferences in September).

Mary,

I teach my class online, through Family History Live Online (for details go
to: www.familyhistoryliveonline.com ). I have had only one person attend
the last couple weeks. So it has been very personalized.

Deena,

Hola, my name is manuel Quintanar and have been a member of this wonderful
and helpful group for a while, but never introduce myself.
I live in Pasadena, California and came from a rancho called Milpillas De La
Sierra in Zacatecas. My apellidos are Quintanar, Agudo, Luna and Reyes.
I'm interested in attending a genealogy workshop around Southern Cal.
Gracias,
Manuel.

Etzatlan, Jalisco and the 1930 Mexican

The Etzatlan, Jalisco portion of the 1930 Mexican Census was lost. I'll try to
come up with a more inclusive list of places that were 'lost.'

Lynn:

Thank you for your response to Brady regarding the Etzatlan census records. There was an earlier inquiry along the same lines for the census records from Torreon, Coahuila and Tlaltenango, Zacatecas by Chris Pineda:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/16129

Do you know if those records were also lost. What exactly do you mean by "lost"? Does the Mexican government no longer have the enumeration sheets for those municipalities?

As Lina mentioned in her message to you, the following record is the key to getting back another generation in your Michel lineage. Because the names of the parents were not extracted into IGI, you will need to go to a family history center and order the film to read the actual record.

If you have not yet done so, seeing old records like that (even on microfilm) is very exciting. You should be able to scan or at least photocopy it for your own records...

DIEGO MICHEL
Spouse: MA. VICENTA ABILA
Marriage: 21 JUL 1828 San Miguel, Ejutla, Jalisco, Mexico
Batch No. M602638 Film No. 1155448

You can find your nearest family history center on familysearch.org

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp

While you are there, I would suggest you order some of the other films with baptisms, etc. from Autlan as well so you can read the original documents for your other ancestors as well. There is often a lot of interesting information, i.e. the names of the ranchos where they lived, the names of their padrinos, and often their occupations, etc.

Comment

As Arturo mentioned this marriage record could take you back another generation unless they were both previously married. The records for previous married people don't always include parents unfortunatley. That's another reason it's important to record padrinos and witness's, sometimes they are the clue that finds you the correct family ties. I know once you read your first family record you'll be hooked just like the rest of us, finding our own information is much more exciting than just having someone else tell you names and dates.
I look forward to hearing from you after you've read your own very first family record.

Erlinda,

Yes, I am eager to obtain and read my first family record. Hope I can tackle
that soon.

I have mixed feelings, on one hand I am excited with an upcoming trip to
Spain --a solid month and a bit-- and on the other hand a little frustrated
because of the cosequent temporay suspension of my family search. I know I
should not complain, the records will not go anywhere else while I am away
from home.

filminas van a estar esperando.
van a estar esperandote.
(CorGoMiUri).
Regresa pronto

Arturo,

Yes, I have now a couple of Family History Center addresses here in Mexico
City. So far no one is answering the telephone. Since they are not far from
where I live, I plan to visit them next week to order the microfilm. I do
not have it in my hands yet, but I am already excited ¡

Felipe:

IGI is the International Genealogical Index and VRI is the Vital Records Index, both databases compiled and maintained by the Church of Latter Day Saints. They allow you to search through millions of baptism and marriage records for a particular name, limiting your search to a particular location or time period.

You will note that our site has a FILMS database that is organized by State and Municipality in Mexico which then links to the respective BATCH NUMBER in IGI or VRI where the records have been extracted. This allows you to "browse" the entire records on that particular film, or limit your search solely by mother's last name or father's first name or in any number of different ways that FAMILYSEARCH.ORG will not allow unless you enter a BATCH NUMBER.

I suggest you download the Nuestros Ranchos User Guide which you can find in the FILES-REFERENCE MATERIALS section of the site as well as the Finding Ancestral Records in Mexico Guide found in the same section.

There are actually lots of useful guides, including instructions on using the IGI, transcribing church records, etc. in that section of the site which are very useful for beginners and experienced genealogists alike.

Hello Sylvia,

I received your note. Thank you.

I also answered another note from you inviting me to join the CorGoMiUri
site. I have been a member --not very active though-- since quite a while.
My primary interest is to search mi ancestry, and I have not figured out how
to do it through your site. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers ¡¡

Acevedos in Tepetongo Parish

Aida,

I too am descended from some Acevedos that used the parish church in Tepetongo that served the communities of Salitrillo, Tinaja, Estancia, Buenavista, Salitral, Vivoras, Sauces, and a few others. I had the film # 0445156 that I transcribed for the time period you stated, and there is a gap in the records from 1780 to 1787. I looked at the index of the batch number for that film, and I didn't find any De La Vega or Vega, Bega or any Toribio or Bernardo Acevedo, Asevedo, Asebedo. Perhaps the records for your ancestors are lost, as they are for many of my ancestors.

Researching Acevedo's and De La Vega inTepetongo, Zacatecas.

Aida,

May I suggest for possible connection/leads the marriage records of the
following ...

Jose Maria Asevedo with Maria Guadalupe Escovedo, 1799, Pinos, Zacatecas
(Family History Library Batch No. M606319)

Thank you so much for your info; I do have the marriage records for all
three brothers, what I am looking is for their baptism or birth records as
they may contain the names of their grandparents.

Thanks again,

Modern Mexican Military Records

Has anyone had any luck getting copies of Mexican Military records from 1920's or 1930's? Where would I write to? My wife's grandmother was married to a Mexican Military officer in the 20s.Thank you Brady

Padrinos

Daniel,

Padrinos could be anyone who was Catholic and who was deemed to be in good standing with the church, thus they could be siblings. Often times the padrinos were not married to each other but usually were in some way related to the parents of the child who was baptised.

Comment

Dear Daniel:
I have extracted numerous baptism records from San Miguel, Valle de Guadalupe, Tepatitlan and now Tangancicuaro. Often the padrinos listed in my family lines were married, but this is not always the case. I have found some padrinos that were not married and also who were brother and sister. I have noticed in many of the documents that if the padrinos were brother and sister it will state hermanos. However, I have seen documents were I know the two were brother and sister, but it did not state hermanos. About 96 percent of the time, the padrinos have been somehow related to the parents, but there are exceptions to every rule! Your best bet is to keep accumulating documents that will substantiate your hunch. In this case possibly baptisms or marriages of the parties involved to see if they have the same parents.

In reply to by Maureen Bejar

Comment

Dear Daniel:
One other note of caution. In Tangancicuaro it seems that many cousins were named after the grandfather and their brothers or sisters married people with the same family name, sometimes related to each other and sometimes not related. This leads to confusion. Same names and almost the same age. Also remember sons often were named after fathers. Could this person be just someone with the same name, a son, a cousin? Once again more documents from the same general area with uncover if you have a person with the same name married to the woman standing as padrino. You might find baptisms of children born to the padrinos within the same batch of records. You would not believe how many Jose de Jesus Rochas I have seen in Tangancicuaro. So confusing.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Padrinos

This has been a question to me for a while. Although we are Mormon we still carry the tradition of Padrinoship. for instance mine are my grandfather and his 2nd wife. I have a question. can Padrinos be a brother and sister? Im trying to connect my Angela de Oropesa. In a document, it says "fueron sus padrinos Magdaleno Lopes de Oropesa y Angela Lopes de Oropesa. In our Hacienda any people with the same last name is related. Hence the intermarriage. The Oropesas came to our hacienda around 1890. The ones were named Thomas, Gervacio, Magdaleno and Maria Oropesa. They were said to came after my 3rd grt grandmother came named...Angela de Oropesa who married Jose Maria Hernandez de Solis. And had Eulalia de Solis. Who married Estevan Lopez de Duran who had Lorensa Lopez de Solis who married Celso del Camino y de Soto. Who had Antonio Lopez del Camino who married Maria Guadalupe Vasquez de Elizalde, who had my grandfather Antonio II del Camino. Anyway...The
fact is on a relatives b
aptismal
Magdaleno and Angela Oropesa were padrinos, but she cant be married to him because at the same time he was married to Francisca Garcia de Bedoya. So it has led me to believe that Magdaleno and Angela are siblings. Can anyone help? -Daniel Mendez....d. C.

I have a Sebastian de Luna married around 1680 to Josefa Lozano, from Aguascalientes. The only Sebastian de Luna I've found around that time and region is the son of Luis de Luna and Josefa de Haro, or Esquivelm christened in Tlaltenango on 10 February, 1659. Could anyone confirm if he is the one married to Josefa Lozano?
