Epidemics

Aside from Mexican civil and church records, what type of medical records would have been kept that would document a persons death, particularly when an epidemic struck?

Hi Jospuen

This is indeed a very interesting topic. You might want to try with an academic article which has a good bibliography - sometimes its helpful to see what researchers have as their primary sources, which seem to be what you are looking for.

This is a start: When half of the population died: the epidemic of hemorrhagic fevers of 1576 in Mexico
https://academic.oup.com/femsle/article/240/1/1/536409

You could also find out who cites this article via social science research index.

Denise,

Of course. I completely forgot about the academic point of view. I'm sure many a papers have been written on this topic.

I guess you can say I was looking for another "magic bullet" in genealogy-though I know they are far and few between.

JSTOR is another resource I have accessed in the past. If nothing else this can give me/us a historical aspect of what our ancestors went through. I find that very few of my ancestors "cause" of death was recorded-maybe not even understood.

With civil records only going back to 1856 (aprox)...that continues to leave few resources...thanks for the insight.

Hi Marty

You're welcome and good luck with it!

You are working on an interesting topic, if you find what you are looking for, I would love to hear about it here in NR!

Don Pedro Pablo de Gavai

Hi

Has anyone heard of Don Pedro Pablo de Gavai?

He turns up as padrino to a mulatto slave (possible ancestor of mine!) in this record of baptism 1713 for Juan Antonio Joseph Altamira

Beatriz Delgado - wife of Pedro Calderon Solano and Antonio de Castro

Hello fellow researchers

I'm waiting for my mtDNA results and while I wait I'm trying to see if I can get my maternal line back a little bit further.

Questions and comments:
1. Does anyone have located the death record of Beatriz Delgado?
2. Also I don't understand how the "Rodas" last name fits into this line. Both daughters use that last name. Any ideas?
3. I think is important keep in mind that Beatriz Delgado was also known as Beatriz Gonzalez.
I'm very interested in knowing more about the marriage that Andrea mentioned (Martin Gonzalez and Beatriz Delgado. (see baptism 3 may 1637)

Hi Ruben

These two women are the daughters of the Catalina Ponce in this thread. I also descend from the younger Catalina Ponce and her husband Diego Gonzalez, and I think Beatriz even calls herself Beatriz Delgado on one of her children's baptisms, after her grandmother.

The witness in this dispensation, Nicolas de Sandoval, is the son of Juana Ponce and Francisco de Sandoval. He says the groom-to-be is his "sobrino segundo" so Beatriz (and her sister Catalina) would have to be his aunts, Juana's sisters. These two sisters must have been married in Teul because I think they're the only children of Manuel Geronimo de Viera and Catalina Ponce I haven't seen marriage records for.

Thank you for the information Andrea.
I also came across this baptismo record listing a "Beatriz Delgado" whose parents are A??(illegible) Delgado and Catharina Lopez. The time frame seems in the range (1585), but there is not enough evidence to make a connection. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Good find! I think the name of the father is Alonso? It's hard to say whether these Delgados are of any relation to the ones showing up later in Tlaltenango, but it is definitely something to investigate.

I think the father in this record is Alonso Delgado.

But I don't know if she is "our" Beatriz

Sometimes it's like the ancestors decide they're ready for us to have more clues. All of a sudden I hopped up to check something unrelated in the early baptism film and stumbled across this:

5 Aug 1639 baptism Antonio Delgado Lopez "compadres Antonio de Castro y Beatriz GONZALEZ su mujer . . ."
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-T49T-24?i=67&cc=1804458

It seemed logical she was named after the Beatriz Delgado m. Martin Gonzalez, but it's good to have evidence of a connection!

Upon further poking around . . .
1636 baptism of Jacinto Lamas Rodriguez (son of Jacinto Fernandez de Lamas and Mariana Rodriguez) "compadres . . . Beatriz Delgado hermana de la parida"
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-T49T-XP
(There's two Beatriz Delgados - most likely related - during this time, the other one was married to Diego de Molina, so this could be either of them)

Comment

Mariano Gonzalez-Leal mentions a Pedro Calderon, native of Villa de Garcia, Trujillo, Caceres, Extremadura, and son of Francisco Solano Calderon de Villegas and Francisca Jimenez Altamirano. These 2 were parents of Hernando de Villegas (m. Ines Lopez de Nava) and Isabel de Rodas (m. Francisco de Cobarrubias). From the timeline, this Pedro Calderon might be the one who married Beatriz Delgado, or his father. Either way, your Pedro Calderon descends from this family.
Since Beatriz Delgado remarried in 1634, we know Pedro Calderon died before then. He was probably a landowner, so he would have left a testamento. I’d recommend going through the protocolos for Guadalajara, starting from that year, and going backwards.

Great work, Andrea, keeping an eye open for ancestors appearing as padrinos (and testigos). I’ve broken down more than one brickwall that way!

Thank you so much for the link, Manny! I've got a death date for Pedro of 20 Nov 1630 so that narrows down my search through these films you've directed me to. I did see on various trees that Francisco Calderon Solano and Francisca Jimenez Altamirano had a Pedro, but usually with mentions that he died celibate a bit earlier. I don't know if he could have had a son at some point or if my Pedro is a nephew, but thank you for providing a source to check out, since I didn't see any.

And for anyone with Rodrigo de Castro or his descendants . . . I haven't seen the name of his mother (Antonio de Castro's first wife) mentioned anywhere. Evidently, she died a few weeks after Pedro Calderon Solano.

Searching these baptism records has revealed the parents of some of the other Delgados in Tlaltenango in this time frame. I didn't see them in the gedcom so I thought I would post in case anyone needs them.

1. The parents of the Beatriz Delgado m. Diego de Molina are Pedro Albertis and Ysabel Garcia
(baptism of their son Sebastian) - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-T49T-L1?i=93&wc=MC789Z…
The Ysabel Albertis married to Francisco de Molina must be another daughter

2. The Magdalena Delgado m. Juan Gallardo is the daughter of Luis Felix Delgado and Juana Bautista (Saucedo? who according to the great posts in the Ancestry of Maria de Haro y Saucedo thread is a sister of the Maria de Saucedo m. Juan de Miramontes)
(baptism of daughter Josepha) - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-T49T-XR?i=42&cc=1804458
(confirmation of Luis and Juana's daughter xxina? Catalina? top left) - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-T49R-R6?i=181&wc=MC78-…

3. Magdalena has a brother Pedro Delgado m. to a Maria Garcia de Roldan
(Baptism of Josepha Rivera Solis) - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939N-T49T-PZ?i=21&cc=1804458
I seem to have misplaced the link, but Pedro and Maria appear as padrinos for a child of Xptobal/Cristobal Garcia de Roldan and Agustina de Chavez. Maria Garcia is the aunt of the child.

Hopefully that helps someone related to these other couples

And finally evidence Ponce is indeed Ponce de Leon
(baptism of Gabriela Gertrudis Sanchez Castellanos - I descend from her sister Rita and Alejandro Mayorga Carlos)

Hello,
There's another beatriz delgado from Nochistlan married to Cristobal Lozano, son of Juan Lozano . Looks like Cristobal is illegitimate.

Here is the excerpt from Genealogia de Nochistlan By Vazquez Y Rodriguez Frias. Pg. 167

1) Juan Lozano y Perez Bermejo. El 4 de Feb. 1644 Bautizado en AGS. Joan espanol, hijo de Christobal Losa Y Mariana Pz Vermejo, siendo Testo Juan Lozano de Gardea, clerigo hijo Lit. de Christobal Lozano y Mariana Gonzalez de Gardea, vecinos de AGS. Archivo Historico de AGS, Caja 4, Folio 2, No. 21.

Juan Lozano tubo un hijo Cristobal Lozano (comm privada entre Mary Lou M. y Jaime H.) que caso con BEATRIZ DELGADO cuya hija Mariana Gertrudis Lozano caso con Isidro de Esparza, Hijo de Juan Esparza y Mariana Martin del Campo, Capitulo 47.

I think this Beatriz is likely the OTHER Beatriz you provided evidence of from Tlaltenango since this Lozano line intermarried with the families of Tlaltenango. There are definitely two- Beatriz Delgado's.

The happlegroup came back A2d1a, Native American. Very interesting! All the ladies I have documented on this line say they're "españolas." Unless the Native America is earlier on, closer to the original conquest.

My line is through Juana Ponce and Francisco de Sandoval in Tlaltenango, who seem to have left a lot of descendants.

Comment

I am in the same boat as you and Maven-- I descend from Manuel de Viera and Catalina Ponce. My dead ends are the same as yours. We just don't have the records that go back further, although there could be property or land and water records that include additional information. These records may not yet be digitized or indexed. However, for ancestors from this area at this time period, this is about where the trail ends.

Would you be willing to share Beatriz's MtDNA haplogroup when you find out? I'd be curious what hers is-- she not my direct maternal ancestor, but she is one of my ancestors.

Thanks!

Actually, Andrea, I am testing a cousin of mine whose family is from Totatiche. She appears to descend in the matrilineal line from Catalina Ponce, and thus, Beatriz. In an interesting twist, before I saw this message, I had paid for an MtDNA test for this cousin. I'm wondering if we'll see a match. That would be awesome!

I'm sending you an email as I have questions about this family.

Hi Andrea,
I have both Francisca AND Catalina in my direct lines and have not been ble to go further than the two docs you listed above. I recently, combed through all of tlaltenango and rest of Zacatecas looking for a connection for Manuel Veira as the surname isn’t that common. In “Familias antiguas de Tlaltenango” p. 62 States Manuel was an unmarried Spaniard , resident of the guardianship of El Teul. Also, perhaps there is a connection with Agustina veira, or its actually Vera.
I have Beatriz Delgado, not Brígida. And I’ve seen Catalina as Catalina perla, Catalina de Rodas and Catalina ponce de Rodas.
Coincidently, the last marriage record u posted was Juan de Vera married to Juana Miramontes. The padrinos are Lorenzo Miramontes m. María Gonzales, who is ma. Gonzales Delgado. Their son is Juan Miramontes m. Brígida Ortiz, my 12th grandparents.

Comment

I think the "Perla" is misread handwriting. The "Ponce" in Catalina's marriage record does look like "Perla" at first glance. I also thought of Agustina de Viera in relation to Manuel. The IGI also shows a Viera family in Pueblo about 1620, but those two instances are about all I've seen of the name.

A lot of my lines go back to the Miramontes family. I have Hernando, Juan Jr., and Catalina de Haro. I may have your younger Juan's sister if my Flores de la Torre line from Teul goes back through Pedro Flores de la Torre and Clara, but I've found no solid proof yet.

Hi,

Based on your information I would assumed that you are right. The first wife was the sister of the second wife.
Regarding the discrepancy between Antonia Gutierrez vs Antonia Ortega, to make sure I would search for her parents. I'm assuming that you are going to find Ortega/Gutierrez (either order)
I had a case like that once (i woman that kept changing last names late 1800's). I found out that she was an illegitimate child. That is just one reason. Another one (very common) is that is somehow a compound last name.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

Luisa de Quesada y Mendoza

There appears to be a consensus that Luisa de Quesada y Mendoza and her sister Maria may be the legitimate daughters of Alonso de Quesada and Juana Bautista Hernandez de Arellano y Mendoza.

Padrones/Census - what do letters signify? CC, C, CV, P, CP, CD, etc.

Hi All. I am wondering if any fellow member can help me with this. Looking at old Census (Padrones) of Juchipila and Moyahua, what do the following letters mean?

Comments

Comment

Claudia,

The old "Padrones Parroquiales" amounted to censuses conducted by the
Catholic Church among its members. The letters you are wondering about
indicate which Sacraments had been received by the "feligreses" at the time
the census was conducted, i.e. CC - Confesión y Comunión, C - Confirmación,
CV - Casamiento y Velación, etc. An explanation of these abbreviations is
usually included on the first page. I don't have any examples handy, but if
you want I can look it up for you.

Bill, I appreciate the info on padrones parroquiales. I do not have the sheet of explanations, unfortunately (I am using a certified copy from the Arquidiocesis de Guadalajara, not the FHL films) and they came without the explanation and I am not Catholic, so I have no idea.

If it's not too much trouble, can you fill in the blanks below?

> cv = casamiento y velacion

Claudia, I checked two different "padrones parroquiales" for Aguascalientes
(1648 and 1770) and one for Nochistlán, Zacatecas (1664). They were
basically intended for the Church authorities to know which members had
received the Sacraments of Confession and Communion, and whether they were
Single, Married, Widow(er), etc. The Padrón for 1648 also lists the
race/caste of members. These padrones use slightly different formats. I
also checked the "Padrón de Españoles, Castizos y Mestizos de Aguascalientes
de 1792". This is similar to censuses conducted in the U.S. during that
period of time, listing the number of families living at each address,
number of males, females, boys, and girls living in each household, plus the
total number of people found in each dueling. The 1792 census was conducted
by civilian authorities, so it doesn't use the same abbreviations as the
"Padrones Parroquiales" which were religious in nature. Interestingly
enough, in 1770 one of my ancestors, Vicente Ruiz de Esparza, and his first
wife Catarina de Orosco y Raya, lived on a street named "Calle de la Merced"
with their son Joseph. Twenty two years later, Vicente Ruiz de Esparza
lived in "la Calle de Nieto" with his second wife Rafaela de Trillo y
Delgado (my 4th great-grandmother). I visited both addresses when I was in
Aguascalientes in 2008. La Calle de la Merced is directly behind the
Cathedral, and la Calle de Nieto just one block away. I got goose bumps
every time I was there.

You need to get a hold of the entire Padrón Parroquial, including the
introduction, in order to know the exact meaning of the abbreviations used.
With the examples in my files I was only able to verify the following:

cc = confesión y comunión (confession and communion)
c = confesión únicamente (confession only) but could be confirmación
(confirmation)
p = párbulo (small child / toddler)
cv = casado y velado (married and veiled)
cp = ???
cd = ???
s = soltero o suelto
cs = ???

Bill Figueroa

MACIAS

I joined this group to find more information on the Macias family from Aguascalientes and Nochistlan.

Comments

Comment

The info I have on the Macias is from 1650 back to 1521
Gaspar Macias Valades was my 6th great grandfather married to Antonia De Anda Altamirano. He was born in Teocaltiche but his parents are from Aguascalientes. Gaspar Macias children and subsequent descendants all went with the surname De Anda

Comment

There are several large Macias familiy trees on Geneanet that are all worth examining. While there is certainly some duplication, perhaps a lot, there are differences as some descendancies may be more fully in one, and others in another.

My wife descends from this family as well.

George Fulton

Comment

I wonder if they could all be the same line of Macias, but I haven't found the De Anda surname in my tree research. I do have a GEDmatch number though to see if any Macias descendants on here might be matches? My kit# is KK6796917 and my Father's is LM2514076 Higinio Zaldivar Macias was my Dad's Grandpa.

Legitimo but then Natural?

I was wondering if any of you have experience on what is going on when certain children of the same parents are labelled legitimate while others are labeled naturales.

Comments

Comment

I have seen this a few times. I discovered the reason for one of these was that the couple had a few kids before marrying, and then a few after. Once they were married, many considered the children legitimate.

Hi George,

No, these 2 books aren’t microfilmed, as far as I know. The indexes are extracted from photocopies of the books themselves, that Mary Lou Montagna took, during her visits to Pinos back in the 1990’s. An employee at San Matias was kind enough to photocopy each page, front & back, and back before iphones or zipdrives, so Mary Lou has a stack of pages. Though she doesn’t have permission to publish the images, she still wants to make the information available to family researchers, and asked me to index & upload them. I also descend from several of these families, and these early books aren’t available online. So it was like Christmas for me!

You can use the website worldcat to find libraries that have this set of books. There is an older edition (1981 edition?) that may be more widely available, but this is only one volume.

George Fulton

Comment

It's not one book, it is a set of books. Some of the books are thick. The books just came out a few years ago so it would be illegal for someone to make a digital copy and post all of the contents. You may post passages as long as you cite the book and author, but not whole sections.

If you had the author's permission then it would not be illegal. If you did it without his permission, I guarantee you that Mariano Gonzalez Leal would go after you, and your assets, with the full force of law.

Comment

R.A.Ricci, do you have direct contact with Mariano Gonzalez Leal? I was not able to purchase the collection when it came out, and I understand it is sold out. A few months ago, someone posted a message about reprinting the collection, but I thougth it sounded fishy, or probably illegal.

Steve

Comment

Dear Steve,

I haven't had contact with him in many years, and it was only through e-mail.

I saw the same post and came to the same conclusion that it was either a scam or illegal. The person may have naively thought that they could reprint it.

Mariano Gonzalez Leal would aggressively defend his copyrights.

Steve F. Hernandez is working on some surnames that are not part of "Retoños".

I have extended some of the lines that Mariano has in his books.

Comment

There are copies for sell in San Diego. The cost is more expensive than it was years ago but still well worth the purchase. I believe that the current cost for the set of ten volumes is $760.00.

I hope to see Mariano Gonzalez Leal in August 2020 at an event here in Southern California. You could probably buy a set then.

The set is also available for borrowing through libraries.

Marriage Information

Hi everyone,

Comments

Comment

Hi Cindy
I have found it varies by period, the priest and other variables but it is mostly 1 month prior. Example: if person marries Jan 10, 1730, you would look for it Dec 10, 1729. I normally start with the first of Dec to be sure. However as in all things there are exceptions, IM's can be taken a week before. Records are usually mixed up. You can have a Traveling priest so they go pueblo to pueblo, the years go backwards or dates. If there are only three years say for example 1729 to 1731 and there are 700 pages there might be different years included or other situations. And though you may not find an IM for a couple it could be that either it was taken elsewhere where the groom or the bride lives or there exists a Dispensa.

Good Luck,
Simona

Be sure to check out the Aguascalientes civil records at Ancestry.com. They have been indexed, and are linked to the images of the documents.

From Ancestry’s search menu, search the catalog for Aguascalientes (or any other state of interest) and from the resultant list you can select Aguascalientes birth, marriage or death records. You can select the one of interest and search specifically for Aguascalientes records. This gives you more relevant results than the general search.

This works for any state in Mexico, but I am not sure how complete they are.

You can search these records for free at any LDS Family History Center, and at many public libraries.

The civil records begin at the end of the 1850’s and from their it is an easy transition to the church records.

Jose Andres Cerafin Luz was born in 1880
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-P29F-MW?i=310&cc=18833…

Maybe there are two Andres. I believe that there is a Luis Pesqueda married to Aguilar who according to other ancestry trees father is Francisco. Sometimes Luz was changed to Luis.

It looks like many of your relatives went to Potreros but were for a long while in Guanajuato.
Potreros, San Francisco, Angamacutiro de la Unión, Michoacán, Mexico. Not sure if the ones in early 1650's in Aguascaliente.s are the same family.

As for your Rafael with Ynes Rodriguez that is complicated. Only two children have her as mother but what gets complicated is that when one of them passes they have Rafael Pesquedo and Enes Rodriguez as parents and not any of the other surnames.

I have a grandmother who has gone by the name of rosalia Lira, alvarado, de la cruz, Dias and saucedo. I've been searching years so I can find her real name/s

Hopefully some small piece is not what you already have.

Wow! I am so excited to see this new information. I cannot thank you enough for sharing it with me. I was back in the 1600's on the Pesqueda line but the whole reason for me going back to my great, great grandfather was because I just felt like something was off. I think this just might be the missing piece I was looking for. I will start researching this over the next few days and see where it leads.

Thanks again!

George, thank you so much for the instruction on how to search the catalog on Ancestry. I did not know that existed. A while back, I did discover the catalog on Family Search and figured out that if I had the film number and the date to search for, I could find the actual image of the record I was searching for . I've actually gotten quite good at it.

One problem I'm having however is that I'm not familiar with the geography of all the towns, ranches, etc. so I'm not even sure where Los Potreros is in Mexico. Could you help me with that?

Thank you, Rick. I have most of that information but I still have not been able to find a birth record for Jose Rafael Pesqueda. That is what I would really like to find.

The only person I have found close to that name is Maria Henrique del Carmen Esqueda Velasquez, but she was born in 1807 in Apatzeo, Guanajuato. Her parents were Jose Rafael Esqueda and Maria Felipa de la Acension Velasquez Holguin.

Hi there and thanks for reaching out! Rafael Pesqueda is my 2x grandfather. Unfortunately, I don't know much about him. He and his son Andres (my great grandfather) are the ones I am searching for right now. I haven't even been able to locate a birth record for him. The only way I know he existed is from birth and death records of his children and his marriage record. I know his wife was Maria Ynes Rodriguez. I've also seen her with the surname of Avalos. I believe the surname used to be Esqueda.
He had 4 children:
Juana Pesqueda Rodriguez (about 24 Jun 1860) married to Tomas Rodriguez. As far as I know, they only had one child; Maria Socorro. They lived in Charlotte, Tx.

Maria Juliana Gabina Pesqueda b: 15 Feb 1861 (I can't find any other records than her birth record).

Porfirio Pesqueda b. about 1869. He was married to Carlota Perez. I think they only had one son but as I'm typing this, they might have had twins. I'll have to do further research and get back to you...

Hilaria del Refugio Pesqueda b. 20 Jan 1873. Birth record is the only record I have found.

J. Andres Cerapion Luz Pesqueda (my great grandfather) b. 9 Nov 1874. Also the only record for him that I have found.

I am actively searching for him so if anything changes, or if I find more information, I will let you know. If you have any information, I would be so grateful if you would share it with me too. Thank you. Cindy

Welcome Cindy. I have this family in my line (I didn't known it). Not sure if this is your family as this family is from Guanajuato in the late 1870's. If this is not your family, perhaps you can share some more information about the couples spouses. Once again welcome.

You are welcome to look at my tree and see my information. I have not been able to find a birth record for him. If you need any information from me, I am happy to help. Let me know. Thank you so much!

Hi Manny,

Thanks so much for posting all this! I came across the Flores de la Torre información and made a few quick notes a few months ago, but hadn't had the time to go through it.

I took a look at the witness testimony of Hernando Viera and I think it says "tres". Compare it with "trata" just three lines down and "contra" on the last line of the first question. This "tr" combination is a bit interesting.

Saludos!

Miramontes / Viramontes

I have many Miramontes in my genealogy and have seen the surname Miramontes evolve to Viramontes beginning about the late 1800's.

Does anyone know why this happened?

Joseph,
I also have many Viramontes in my family tree and the short answer is "I don't know."! The earliest ancestor from around 1690 is Jose Christobal Miramontes. http://www.arturogonzalez.com/LaVillitaFamilies/languages/en/persons/Pe…

The Tierras y Aguas records use the "M" (and to several others with the same last name) and the Guadalajara also use the M the farther one looks. By the way, my V(M)iramontes seem to have ties to Tlaltenango. One of the Tierras y Aguas records mentions a path heading over the mountains from La Villita in Jalpa to Tlaltenango. Plus I think one of the sons of Jose Christobal was born in Tlaltenango in 1714.

Israel,

We are and should be closely related. My mother's family had continuous movement between Aguascalientes and
Calvillo. My mother was born in Aguascalientes. You are absolutely correct, there is only one Loera family. All
the Loera of Aguascalientes come from Diego de Loera and Margarita de Nava back from the early 1600s.

Like many here I am also closely related to Fernandez de Palo, Lopez de Nava, Tiscareno, Romo de Vivar
and Martinez de Sotomayor. These families were close knit not only in Aguascalientes but also Calvillo.

Please contact me,
Daniel

My father is from Ojocaliente, Calvillo, but my grandfather was from San tadeo, Calvillo.

Yes I have made research about sustaita and so far my oldest ancestor could be, I need more proof, Simon Sustaita who died on March 21 1739 in Rio de los Negritos , Aguascalientes. He was married to Lucia Montañes.

I said that I have no proof because Jose Tomas Sustaita who married Tomaza de Marquecho has Francisco Sustaita and Maria Lopez as his parents. The only Francisco Sustaita That I found married a lady with the name Maria Lopez de Elizalde. I have no idea where the Elizalde came from since Maria's mother is Ines gonsales. This Francisco is the son of Simon Sustaita and Lucia Montañes. All the sustaitas that I have found come from Ojocaliente, San tadeo, and Milpillas,

Hi, I have Loera or Luera in my lines. I have been researching Mezquitic Jalisco. I’m confused because some ancestors show up as indigenous and some are not indigenous. I don’t know if there was mote than one line of Loeras in Mezquitic (very small town). It makes me question whether I have a mess or if it’s one family. Or how accurate were those labels? I myself am over 50% native to Zacatecas, per my Ancestry test.

I also wonder if all of us Loeras are related, but tell me where did you find out about Diego de Loera and Margarita Nava and do you know anything about Ricardo Loera and Barbara Gertrudiz Lopez?

You are totally right about the families you mentioned it seems as if you have taken a look at my tree ;-)

Israel, welcome to the wonderful frustrating elating world of genealogy.  My
fathers family was from Jerez Zacatecas and there were many Loera/Luera located
there. I find the change in spelling frustrating but it was the scribe not the
people the records talk abt.  I ended up putting into my files Loera/Luera since
there was no other way to do it. I put my files on Rootsweb.com because it's
free and anyone can check them without having to pay.

good luck

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Introduction of Israel Sustaita Loera

I'm really happy to be part of this great community and I thank everybody that
runs this website. My family comes from the small town of Ojocaliente, Calvillo
in  in the state of Aguascalientes.  In Ojocaliente there are many people with
the surname Loera and my research has proven that many of us are related .This
area used to be called Valle de Huajucar or Huejucar.

I started my research about 4 months ago and it's been an amazing experience
because to me it feels like I'm a lucky archaeologist who discovers a lost tomb
and I'm the first one to see it in hundreds of years. I was very surprised to
discover that both my grandparents on my mother's side and  my grandmother on my
father's side are related. All of them are descendants of Ricardo Loera and
Barbara Gertrudis Lopez who were married, probably, between 1750 and 1770. It is
very frustrating that I have not been able to find out who their parents were to
continue my research and I hope somebody can help me on this. It was also
surprising to find out that I'm related to the Fernandez de Palos  from
Aguascalientes.

muchos somos parientes lejanos.

Yes I've seen both versions, but since there are church records in Aguascalientes in the early 1600s spelled Loera it leads me to think that it is the original spelling. As you may already know, Calvillo (Valle de Huejucar)in Aguascalientes and Tabasco (Mecatabasco) in Zacatecas share a border and many people from Calvillo were baptized there I am sure there was a lot of trade between both ranchos. I wouldn't be surprised if some Loeras from Zacatecas are related to the Loeras in Aguascalientes.

NAVARRO GUIZAR

Anyone else have these surnames on their pedigree? I've been finding that the name Guizar has been misspelled in documents about a hundred different ways...doesn't make it easy at all.
