Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows who Caterina, daughter of don Marcos Pedroza and María López de Nava, married? Her daughter was my ancestor's first wife. Juana Izzazi y Martín del Campo or Cuevas. I think her paternal grandparents were Nicolás Martín del Campo and Sebastiana Izzazi y Cuevas, hence the Izzazi y Martín del Campo. Juana was also known as Juana Izzazi y Cuevas. So I KNOW for a fact she descended from the same alteño Izazzi.

Caterina de la Pedroza
Thanks, Richard! I cant believe it. I already had this couple in my vast database! What drove me off was I had Catarina de la Pedroza in my database "hija de Marcos Pedroza y María de Nava" and in another part of my database I had her listed as Catalina López de Nava, hija de Marcos Pedroza and María Lopes. I need to check where and when she is listed as López de Nava. I know at least one document she uses her mother's name. I need to cite my sources on my PAF more often, but when I was younger I was ignorant at the fact, the importance of citing for future refernce. I have María and Juana both using there grandmother's surname Izazzi y Cuevas. Juana Izzazi y Cuevas (or Izzazi y Martín del Campo) married my ancestor Nicolás Díaz y Tiscareño bef 1731 not sure when, perhaps you do, Richard? They at least had one daughter Fabiana D. y. Tsño. Juana died in Aug 1730, a year later Nicolás married my 7x grt grandmother, Dionicia de la Pedroza, this marriage on 5 apr 1731 in Lagos de Moreno required a dispensa which I have becuase Dionicia was 2nd cousin to Juana Izzazi y Cuevas. They had Nicolás Miguel Díaz Tiscareño baptized 1734 in Ojuelos, who had J. Joaquín
Díaz Tiscareño abt 1765 who had Ma. Guadalupe Díaz Tiscareño abt 1785 en "La Chona" who had José Antonio Rubio de Borbón 1814 in Tepa, who had María Dariía Atilana Rubio de Borbón in 1856 who had Lucía de Serrano 1887 who had my grandfather Martín Méndez 1917 who had my father J. Gabriel Méndez 1956 who had me. -Daniel Camino

Caterina de la Pedroza
The dispensa I have for Nicolás and Dionicia says that Caterina was hija de Marcos de la Pedroza y María López de Nava. In return, María is daughter of Mateo de Macías y Valadés and Catalina López de Nava, hence why I think Catarina or Catalina used Nava intercchangeably. Im not sure what her name is Ive seen Catalina and Catarina, very common to get these named wrong throughout the period! I can provide citation for the dispensa if needed. -Daniel Camino

Translation request - parroquia de Salina, San Luis Potosí
I need help translating a short historical discription of Salinas, San
Luis Potosí. Following is the original, and my attempted translation,
which I think is mostly correct. Any help would be appreciated.

---------------------------------------------------------------
The parish of Salinas de Peñón Blanco near to the city of San Luis
Potosí under the patronage of Nuestro Padre Jesús, whose festivity
is celebrated the first Friday of the month of March. The municipio
to which it belongs borders on Ramón, Santo Domingo, Charcas, Venado
and Moctezuma ...
The evangelistic acts in Salinas were organized, after the Conquest,
by the Franciscans.
Before it was constituted a parish it was a modest chapel (1600)
that was attended by Franciscans, Augustinian missionaries, and
finally by the Diocesian clergy. In 1799 the chapel was under the
jurisdiction of the parish of Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, and about that
same year was made a parish whose jurisdiction included Real de
Ramos, el Carro, Noria de Ángeles, and Espíritu Santo.
The parish of Salinas was first part of the Diocesian curatage(?) of
Guadalajara until 1855; then it belonged to that of San Luis Potosí
(1863), afterward to that of Zacatecas (1920), and from 1920 it
returned to join what is now the archbishopric of San Luis Potosí.
Some temples that were under the pastoral care of the parish of
Salinas, were transformed in a short time into parishes, in the same
manner as did Noria de los Ángeles, Espíritu Santo, Villa de Ramos,
and Salitral de Carrera y Hernández.
