I'm trying to decipher the name of the place where the child was born on an
image I found on familysearch. Please take a look at the first entry at
the top of Image 87 on FamilySearch, Zacatecas, Nochistlán, Bautismos de
hijos legítimos 1730-1750. Thanks in advance.
Me pueden ayudar con el nombre del lugar de nacimiento que dice la primer
entrada en la pagina 87 en FamilySearch, Zacatecas, Nochistlán, Bautismos de
hijos legítimos 1730-1750. Gracias de antemano.

I agree, its Rio Hipalco (Ipalco). Here is a link to a map of vicinity of Nochistlan with names of rivers (http://www.mexico-cities.info/Nochistlan,Zacatecas).

I noticed that the parents in this record are Eligio de Xaurgui and
Gertrudis Ponce. Is Eligio a descendent of Eligio de Xauregui and Anna de
Sepulveda (md 14 Feb 1695 in Nochistlan)?

Maria,
It says Rio de Hipalco but in other records and on maps i've seen it spelled as
Ypalco and Ipalco. Hipalco is actually some distance from Nochistlan and you can
find it on some maps to this date.

Rio de Hicpales?
Maria
The place looks like Rio de Hicpales to me. I looked on mapquest and google maps to see if I could find a place with this name; no luck. I also tried a google search ... no luck.
I also looked at a greatly expanded map of the Mexticacan area of Zacatecas (on mapquest), and did not find either a town with this name, or a river with this name.
I also looked at a few records before and after this one, but did not see it again.
Could this have been a small rancho or hacienda that no longer exists?

Rio de Hicpales?
Thank you all for your help.
George, that's what the writing looked like to me too, but I knew it wasn't right. I was hoping someone familiar with the area would recognize it, and sure enough Alicia did. Thanks Jaime, for the additional info on the rancho. It's so nice to have a group of experts to turn to when we have questions.
