I was trying to use Family Search on a computer with Windows XP and IE 7. For all practical purposes it does not work.
I went to google, searched for Firefox, and downloaded the current version. This relatively quick, but depends on your internet connection.
I did the standard installation (essentially just follow the instructions: press the "run" button). Started Firefox, searched for Family Search, and everything worked without any problems.
When you install Firefox, you have the option of importing your IE favorites (or bookmarks), although I didn't do this.
I was up and running in less than 5 minutes. The website worked without any problems.
Bottom line: Family Search is not compatible with the older software.

Is it necessary to use Firefox as your default browser? I've tried installing twice w/o using it as my default browser and I don't think it is working, as I'm experiencing the same problem with the FamilySearch site.

No, setting it as default won't make a difference. Have you tried Google
Chrome also?

Family Search
Armando,
I got Firefox downloaded and working as far as being able to use Familysearch. However, I can't seem to get my old Yahoo default page with all my mail folders, favorites, etc. to coordinate with it. The Yahoo page that comes up with Firefox is void of all my previous infromation. I can access all my info opening the Explorer desktop icon. Should I dedicate Firefox use solely to researching on Familysearch? Thanks so much, Alice Blake

Alice,
Those must be different pages of Yahoo. Try copying the URL address from IE
and pasting it into Firefox. Also see the page Importing favorites and other
data from Internet Explorer at
