Now I'm experiencing technical difficulties.
Under Mexican church records I've gone to two different states and at each when I'm at the parroquia of choice, I'm unable to slide the bottom bar to the right to choose which records I'd like to open. The bar slides automatically back to the left before you can click on a category/date. Is anyone experiencing the same problem? I don't see the feedback tab at the right of the page to report a problem. Thanks, Alice Blake

Alice,
Yes, those are the exact problems I am having. I have to try over and over again to get the list of records within a parroquia to stand still---that bar keeps sliding back to the left. You explained it perfectly. Also, I had to change the zoom on my screen from 100% to 75% in order to see the right side of their image screen to where the Save, Print, and the two left/right arrows are.

Emilie,
I'm also not AT ALL computer savvy, but was able to install Firefox myself with my XP. It solves the Familysearch problem, but it created a different "situation" for me. I have no idea how to move all my info including mail from my usual Yahoo homepage, so I will have to use the Firefox desktop icon exclusively for researching on Familysearch. So far I don't see any problem with doing that; I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Alice

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
Alice,
You read my mind! I too just now downloaded Firefox, but I think all I had needed to do was to update my Adobe Flash Player because a screen came up after the download that said Firefox wouldn't work with the outdated Flash Player I had. (I wondered why that Flash Player screen would come up sometimes inviting me to update it). I don't know what it does, but it made Firefox work. I also got another screen that said that some file (?) was corrupted.
I chose the option to pull over my Favorites (Bookmarks in Foxfire), but they are not there. So for the time being I will do like you do and use the IE8 browser for my favorites except Family Search.
I also am now seeing the photo files that I saved appear on the desktop and not among my list of My Pictures or My Photos. Maybe someone can tell me why that is. I save lots of photos and attachment files and I don't want them cluttering up my screen saver screen.
I haven't yet tried to bring Family Search up with Firefox. Wish me luck!

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
Emily,
It's not that Firefox won't work without a Flash Player update, It's the
websites that use the Flash Player that won't work without an update such as
the Family Search viewer. It looks like an oudated Flash Player the cause of
your problem with IE after all. You can update the IE version for the Adobe
Flash Player at get.adobe.com/flashplayer.
As far as the Favorites imported from IE into Firefox, they are under a
folder called* **From Internet Explorer located under bookmarks*.

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
Armando,
I followed the instructions you sent re how to import my Favorites from IE8, and it worked. Thank you so much.
I have more questions:
I tried downloading the Adobe update to the IE8 but it didn't help with the Family Search site there, I have to use Firefox to use the Family Search Viewer. The reason I updated my Adobe Flash Player was that Firefox had stopped loading and brought up a screen that said I had to first update Adobe before I could proceed with the download of the Firefox browser. So, I don't think that just updating Adobe Viewer would help me with the IE8.
I like Firefox now, except for one thing. How do you re-size the screen from 100% to 75% so I can see the Save, Print, and the <- -> arrows to go from one page to another? Those are out of sight to the right of the screen. That part of the top bar menu can't be seen on Family Search on Firefox, only on IE.
On the IE8 browser there is a place on the bottom right corner where you can re-size the screen and I don't see that on Firefox.
Oh, also, on the new Family Search viewer, it will only print the whole page, where before we could print out just a specific portion. George says he saves the whole image then crops it, but that sounds so complicated. I had to use my scanner to enlarge the portion of the page I printed. I am going to contact Feedback and ask about that.
Thank you so much for your help.

The download must have been interrupted to ensure you don't install a Flash
Player with a security flaw.

You can resize webpages by holding down the CTRL button and moving the mouse
wheel or holding down the CTRL button and pressing + or - on the number pad
of the keyboard. Each website you do this for will retain the zoom level you
choose for future visits. There is also a way to add zoom controls to the
Firefox toolbar.

For some reason I never noticed we could previously save a portion of an
image. I would always download the whole image then crop it with Windows
Paint.

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
Armando,
What a treasure you are! It worked, the CTRL with the - .
Alice--- Try the above to re-size the window and you can see the Save, Print, and the forward and backward arrows. Hoo-ray!
Armando----You didn't know about the printing of just a portion? When I used to click on Print it gave you the option to select just a portion --- you would move the sides and top of the image and isolate what you wanted within yellow lines then it would print just that. It was wonderful. It made the copy so big and clear, unless the microfilming was really bad, then you couldn't do anything about that except to ask Family Search in Salt Lake to find a better microfilmed image. I sure hope they fix that. Ancestry.com still has that option where you can print a whole census page or "Current View" when you enlarge it on their screen.

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
I see what you are doing. You aren't actually saving a portion you are
printing a portion. I never print images, I always save them, except for the
instance where I am going to send some to an uncle by mail to see if he can
help me with a few missing relatives.

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
Armando,
I never tried saving just the portion I isolated, but maybe there was a Save function for it, I don't remember now.
My goodness, you save them? In your computer or to another device? I don't save anything, I print it out because I can retrieve it faster than searching for it in the computer, and I am afraid someone would steal my computer. No one is going to steal my 75 binders (one for each line), but then the house could catch fire and I would lose them. Well, whichever way, the repository is always online now so we would just have to find the images all over again.
I had another problem with Firefox. I tried to e-mail a record link to a cousin in Texas, and I couldn't do it because when I am on Firefox the e-mail defaulted to a really old MSN Explorer browser (the one with the butterfly) that is still in my computer from when I had just dial-up. I will have to call MSN and see if they can tell me how to keep that old thing from launching itself. Why it launched that and not IE8 is a mystery. What I am doing now is just going back to the IE8 browser to use that e-mail system.
Thanks for everything,
Emillie

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
I save them to the computer under a folder that has the same name as the
surname of the family. I name the files with the names of people in the
record. This make for finding the records easy. You can also use the search
function to find the files this way. I you buy a small fireproof case and do
a weekly backup of everything to an external harddrive or USB drive and put
the drive into the case everytime you are done backing up then you won't
have to worry about a fire damaging it. If you save the drive in a sealed
plastic bag it will also be safe from water damage due to a flood. You
should already be doing this for small valuables and important documents you
never want to lose in a natural disaster.
As far as email you need to change the email client setting in Firefox to
use Use and choose Hotmail if it's in there.

website troubles? Downloaded Firefox.
Armando,
If only I was one tenth as computer literate as you! I did buy an external drive and a small "thumb" drive, but when I tried to install them, they messed up my computer so badly that I just uninstalled them. We do have a box at the bank for documents.
I went to Best Buy where I bought the drives and asked them to help me but they got too impatient. They had a home service, but they wanted $100 just for coming out to start.
Thanks again for your suggestions, and I will go to that link and see if I can manage to change the e-mail client setting in Firefox.
Emilie
