A couple of days ago when I started to have troubles with the familysearch I had a friend who works with computers for a living check out the situation. He told me that the problem appeared to lie with lack of testing of the website before launching and not my XP. I couldn't wait and downloaded Firefox and all worked great.
Today, I forgot to go through Firefox and accessed the site the old way through XP and I am no longer experiencing the problems as before.
I hope everyone else is no longer experiencing the technical difficulties as before.
No Troubles
Alice,
After I downloaded Firefox, I was able to use their new Viewer, and I thought that since Firefox forced me to upgrade my Adobe Flash before it would download, I thought that perhaps that was all that was needed and not a new browser. So, I went back to IE8 and tried to access the new Viewer there, but I still had the same old problems. What other older browser do you have on your computer?
Now that I have the Firefox, I am experiencing strange problems such as the original old MSN Explorer 6 (for dial-up) launching itself in the middle of what I am doing. So now I have three browsers on my computer, and they conflict.
Armando sent me a link to something on Mozilla that hopefully will lead me to correct the problem.

No Troubles
Emily,
The link I sent you will definitely help your problem in two ways. The old
MSN Explorer 6 is launching because that is what you have set in Windows XP.
The link explains how to fix that.
Windows XP
1. Click the Start button, then click on the Control Panel icon to open
the Windows Control Panel.
2. Click the *Add or Remove Programs* icon to open the Add or Remove
Programs applet.
3. On the left side of the Window click the *Set Program Access and
Defaults* icon.
4. In the Access and Defaults window, click on the *Custom* radio button
to expand the Custom category.
5. Underneath *Choose a default e-mail program*, click the radio button
next to the program you want to use (e.g. Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail,
Outlook).
6. Click OK at the bottom of the window.

The Adobe Flash update for Firefox is different than the one for IE. That is
probably why you couldn't use IE still.
You don't have conflicts with the browsers, you have settings that need to
be corrected that anybody that migrates to Firefox from the setup you have
has to do.

No Troubles
Armando,
I think I successfully reset the browser that launches. I haven't had the old MSN Explorer 6 launch itself for several hours now.
Thanks so much for your guidance,
Emilie

No Troubles
Emilie,
What I'm saying is that the familysearch site has apparently been tweeked and now works accessing it the way I had always done before. I don't have to use the Firefox download I did yesterday. Have you tried accessing it the way you used to? Good luck. Alice

No Troubles
Alice,
I will try again, but earlier today I wasn't able to use the new Viewer with the IE8 like before.
I sure hope they continue tweaking; the best thing would be to tweak it right back to what it was. I hear that some Family History Centers can't use the new viewer themselves because of their old computers.
