I was actually able to find this record without too much trouble. The location is at the end of this post ... but first ...

The Family Search Reference gives you the film number for Aguascalientes marriage records which is important, but actually is not too helpful for the Aguascalientes records as the online images do not include the film numbers. For some areas (generally the more recently posted images) the film numbers will be on the first or second image. For these it is real important to have the number: it will tell you that you are looking at the right film!

From the online listing of Aguascalientes records, go to the marriage record that includes this period. This is 1833-36. The way I start is I initially assume the records are in chronological order. This film has 349 images covering 1833 to 1836. 1834 is about in the middle so I start at an image about the middle: I choose image 150. The date was May 1834 (it is really an accident to hit this close on the first try). If the date weren't near the time of interest, I would move forward or backward, how far depends on how far the date is off, and how many images on the film (far off, lots of images means a bigger jump). In this case the date was real close, so I moved just one image back, image 149, and there it was!

Sometimes, the records for a chapel associated with the main church in a town will be included as a separate list at the end of each month. So, if you are looking at the right month and day, and its not there, go to the end of the month and there may be a new listing.

For some towns the marriages are mixed up, and may have gaps. This is more time consuming as you'll need to find the portion of the film that has the records of interest. The brute force approach is to look at every image from the beginning. This can be tedious. What I sometimes do, will start at the beginning and jump through the film 25 or 50 pages at a time; this will give you a sense of the periods covered, and where the gaps are. When you find the part of interest, then do smaller jumps, or go image by image.

It is often useful to look at the Family History Library card catalog (do a film/fiche search for the film number from Family Search). When you get the record, go to Film Notes. This will often, but not always, provide details on what periods are covered, and what gaps are present.

I have ocassionally found Family Search references for which I cannot find the original records. Sometimes a page may be out of sequence, especially if the book is in poor shape. You can get a sense of this by how the images look. Perhaps the image did not get digitized, but I think this has be to really rare.

Going through a film image by image can be tedious, especially of the images are hard to read.

Sometimes the Family Search reference will give a page or record number; this is not the case for Aguascalientes. When this happens, finding the record is usually pretty easy. I have ocassionally seen registers with more than one page number on each page, you just have to guess which one to use, and hpe the extractor was consistent!
