In reading the marriage certificate of Basilio Baldes y Manuela Gomes I see that it reads " Bacilio Baldes espanol originario y vecino de Santa Maria, hijo lejitimo de Luis Baldes y de Anna Lopes y a Manuela Gomes Casta??? origenaria y vecina de esta villa, hija de "padres no conocidos".
First what is Casta? her name? a label/class? and also does "padres no conocidos" mean that her parents had expired, she was an orphan? or they just were not present?

Thanks for any help in advance.

translation question
Hello Monica,
In the margin on the left it says Manuela Gomez is a castiza which means the
daughter of an español(a) and and a mestizo(a). Wikipedia has good articles
in Spanish http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casta and English
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castas on the caste system of Latin America.
Hija de padres no conocidos means they don't know who the parents are. She
was orphaned or abandoned at a young age. The priest likely called her
castiza based on her looks. Mostly European features with some Indian
features.

translation question
I have had only a little success finding out parents when I find padres no conocidos but a little means that I have found the parents a few times. It does not mean a complete deadend so do not give up hope
