Hello,
I am having a very difficult time making anything out on this baptismal record for Basilio Lopes Baldes, I would appreciate some help if anyone has the time. It is last entry on the bottom left.

I also would appreciate help in translating the following bapt record, located at this address.
It's a two page record. Bottom two lines on Image 471 of 565 and continuing to Image 472 on the following page.
..

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-159389-697502-10?cc=1410092&…
Jose Luziano Gonzalez Corbera, hijo da Ygnasio Corbera y Juana Faustina Gonzalez.
I believe it is saying that the child being now baptized is "mulato," and that the child had been baptized at home, because they were fearful the child would die before being baptized at church.
The part that I'm not sure of I think is saying that the person that performed the baptismal at home was a Juan Marcos de Cota... the remaining wording I need help with.
Thank you,
Pat Silva Corbera

Pat,
Here's the translation.
On 3 January 1782, a mulato baby boy born 28 days ago, son of Ygnacio Corbera and Juana Faustina Gonsalez, legitimately married. Because of the danger of imminent death, the child was baptized at home by Juan Marcos de Cota, naming him Jose Luciano and afterwards I baptized him. His Godparents were the same Juan Cota and his wife, Ana de Acosta. I signed it.

Traduccion de certificado de bautizo Baptism translation
Alicia,
Thank you for your help.
I have another question... Was it common for couples to baptize their offspring, even if they were not married?
I'm seeing records where children are listed as "hijo/hija natural," but the names of the parents as well as the names of the AP and AM are included in the record/document ?
I hadn't viewed "baptismos naturals," films before, but now I'm finding it very interesting.

Pat,
I have a GGgrandfather who had two families, one with his wife and another with another woman. He actually had more children with the second one and they were all recorded in the hijos naturales with both sets of grandparents listed. Sinverguenza that he was. We believe he must have been influential in the town for them to overlook that.
I think that when the father was willing to claim the child they could and would list the grandparents. In many cases if there was rape or incest, the paternal grandparents would not be listed but in this case, the father claimed his children.

Hijo/hija natural
In some places and times, it seems that only the mother is named in cases of the parents not being married. In other places, the appears that hijos naturales are almost more common than children of married parents; in those areas both parents are named most of the time, as well as all the grandparents.
I have rarely seen cases of hijo naturales where only the father is named.

Thank you George...
This is a new area of research for me, I never thought to view the hijos naturals before.

Alicia,
I think I have the same situation, but I'm having a difficult time sorting it all out. I need to spend more time viewing the "bautismos natural," in order to truly piece this all together.
This is an area that I never thought to look into.
I agree sinverguenza.
Thank you for your help!
