Hello,
I am having some trouble trying to pin-point where my great-grandfather, Tranquilino Rangel, on my mother's side is from. On his WWI Draft Registration Card, it states that he was born on Sept., 6, 1891 in Alida, Mexico.
When I try different search engines, there are no results. But when I use the Ancestry.com map it shows a very rural section of Zacatecas.
Is anyone familiar with this area of the Zacatecas ?
Thank you for any help.

Need help please: Alida, Mexico part of Zacatecas?
Hi Kristine--
Could you post a link to the WWI record? I have Ancestry, so I'd like to see the spelling. In the US, lots of Mexican towns were misspelled. For example, in one case, my great-grandfather's place of birth was spelled Acindor-- it ended up being Asientos.

Hello Rosalinda,
Here is the link to the record:
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6482&iid=CA-1530910…
In case that link doesn't work, here is also the link to the FamilySearch site to the same document: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KZVV-916
Thank you!

Need help please: Alida, Mexico part of Zacatecas?
Hi Kristine--
I looked at the name of the location, and I tried finding it here: http://biblio2.colmex.mx/bibdig/dicc_cubas/base3.htm , but it is not there. My best guess is it either was misspelled or misunderstood by the recorder in some way, or it's a a place that was established later than the Cubas book.
I wish I could help more! Have you looked at his death certificate or obituary? Maybe it lists it there.

Hello Rosalinda,
Thank you for helping! I have also looked through that list, and agree that it may have been misspelled. I do not have any more information for Tranquilino, (death certificate or obituary), he has been a difficult brick wall for me to get past and its quite frustrating. haha!
I will keep on with my search. =)
Thanks again!

I did find this in the Social Security Death Index:
Name: Tranqueli Rangel
SSN: 566-03-1034
Last Residence: 90706 Bellflower, Los Angeles, California, United States of America
Born: 6 Jul 1892
Died: Jun 1976
State (Year) SSN issued: California (Before 1951)
He wasn't in the California Death Index, which suggests he died outside of California. However, you can order a copy of the Social Security application; for more information, go here: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/html/foia_guide.htm . Scroll down to "Make a Request Online." It does cost money, though, but he may very well have listed his parents and hometown in the application.
Good luck!

I've had a major crash through this brick wall!! Very exciting! Thanks to FamilySearch, I have found Tranquilino's marriage certificate, which shows where he is from, and also the names of his parents!! So for this side of my family, we are from Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Regarding the death record you found, I have also found that same one before, but the birthday's do not match. I know it is common for mistakes in dates, but I am just not sure. I might order it anyways. Haha!
Thank you so very much for your help, it's very much appreciated =)
Hope to talk to you again,
Kristine

Kristine,
I am so glad you broke through that brick wall! I love that feeling. I have people in Guanajuato, too (although that is off-topic for this group). Good luck!
