I can tell that you watched the recent episode of "Finding Your Roots" on PBS and you are researching the lineage of Melissa Villaseñor. By the way, very disappointing show, no mention of el Rancho de La Piedra Herrada, San Jose de Gracia, Tepatitlan, Los Altos de Jalisco, or even the state of Jalisco. No mention of our rich history, heritage, culture, traditions, and genealogical treasures. No...Dr. Gates only likes to focus on slave owners, and slaves. I have completed my investigation, if you would like some info.
Hello Steven,
You are right that I watched that recent episode, and was continuing the research on their ancestries. The researchers for that show called me up and said that they had seen my work posted on nuestrosranchos and wanted more information. They were very interested in the Lomelin ancestry.
Dr. Gates sent me a nice email congratulating me on my research. I really appreciate the email, but you are right, it would have been nice to hear, or see in the credits an acknowledgment of all the information collected from nuestrosranchos.
And yes I would like to see how far you got in continuing the ancestral lines of Mario Lopez and Melissa Villaseñor. I connect him to the Alvarez Tostado lines in Jalisco and Zacatecas. Melissa has much Los Altos de Jalisco ancestry/Aguascalientes/Zacatecas ancestry. I connect her to my De La Torre, Perez de Paredes and Perez de Contreras ancestries. There are many more ancestral connections than those that I have named here.
I agree with your statement,
“ very disappointing ……..no mention of el Rancho de La Piedra Herrada, San Jose de Gracia, Tepatitlan, Los Altos de Jalisco, or even the state of Jalisco. No mention of our rich history, heritage, culture, traditions, and genealogical treasures.”
In defense of the show, it is only half an hour long, and they tackle the ancestry of two people in this half hour. That is very little time. And in both of those main ancestors that he coverered, Baltazar Temino de Banuelos and Diego Ochoa Garibay, I have much more information on their ancestries that he did not have.
Just thinking aloud: “How about you and I putting together a series of episodes presenting our rich history, heritage, culture, traditions, and genealogical treasures.” It could not be covered in half an hour. We could produce many interesting episodes.
Thanks,
Rick
PS. After an episode on “Roots” that showed Jessica Alba’s ancestry, I also did more research on her ancestry and connected her repeatedly to my Ruiz De Esparza lines, among others.
I attempted to convince Dr. Gates that Raiders coach Tom Flores and Raiders quarterback Jim Plunkett’s ancestries would be an interesting show, and I even offered my research into their ancestries. If he had looked into my research into their family trees, he would have found genealogical treasures that would interest many of us. Jim Plunkett descends from Baltazar Temiño de Velasco, just like Mario Lopez. Tom Flores descends from Lope Ruiz De Esparza, just like Jessica Alba and Melissa Villaseñor.
