How do we find out our Indigenous tribe of our grandparents if there were never records like the colonizers made the northern tribes do.There is no paper trails for our lineage for tribal affiliation to close the circle..Anyone know any ideas or does the mormon temple really have documents to guide us..
Indigenous Tribe
It all depends. In some communities, if you’re lucky, they do name the person's tribe. For instance, I was just looking at marriage records in Venado, SLP, early 1700s, and some individuals are listed as “Indio Tlascalteco,” and others as “Tarasco,” and yet others as “Guachichile.” I've also seen records from Chihuahua during the 1800s, that would name "Apaches" and "Comanches," etc. But for the most part, you’ll just get the generic “India/o.” It’s hit & miss. Just keep digging through the archives.
You can also use DNA: Ancestry has my indigenous DNA being predominantly from central Chihuahua: my most recent ancestors documented as Indigenous (whose DNA would likely be the only ones registering) lived in Satevó and in Cusihuiriachi: from looking at an interactive map of first nations that I saw online, I know that the local tribes in those places were Concho and Rarámuri, respectively. I have earlier Indigenous ancestors from the Mexican interior, but they are too far back in my lines to register.
I hope that helps - good luck!

Thank you yes its a quest because none of my Tias or Tios know anything my grandfather said it was by choice before he passed away..My Grandmother died when i was younger.I would have love to hear her stories..The journey has been many years and i wont stop.I think its very important for us to grow and spread our nation to say We are still here, not by the colonizers standard but by our ancestors lineage..
