Hola prim@s,
This is a group of documents regarding some lands belonging to Andrea Gonzalez Bermejo, wife of Cristobal Barburen, of Teocaltiche: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSDL-6S93-C?i=191&cat=…
The lands were originally granted to Martin Navarro in October 1575 (image 209 btm right); he signed them over to his yerno, Benito de Yslas, as part of the dowry of his daughter, Juana Navarro (image 210 right). She in turn, (beginning on image 195) donated them to Antonio Gonzalez de Rubalcava and to Antonio de Bastidas, husbands of her granddaughters, Juana de Yslas and Magdalena Lozano, respectively, who were daughters of her daughter, Petronila de Yslas, married to Pedro Lozano. The donations were made in 1630, so Juana de Yslas and Magdalena Locano could have been born as late as 1618; you can do the math to figure out the approximate ages of everyone else involved.
Tantalizing, ain’t it? While it can’t be said with complete certainty that the Martin Navarro spoken of is the same who was married to Petronila de Moctezuma, or that this Benito de Yslas is the same who was father of Magdalena de Lavezaris and Maria de Yslas, the names, places, and dates do appear to match up (on image 210, bottom left, there is even mention of a Francisco Gonzalez and his wife, Maria ? de Yslas, who could be the natural daughter of Benito de Yslas and mestiza half-sister of Magdalena de Lavezaris and Maria de Yslas …). And at least we now know more about the Juana Navarro who died in Teocaltiche on 28 Dec 1651.
What do you think?
Thanks to Valentina Veor, who shared this document at Rose Wischnewsky’s Descendants of Petronila de Moctezuma Facebook group.

Manny, did you catch the bit…
Manny, did you catch the bit on 210 where it says Francisco Gonzalez ... de Benito de Ysla su suegro. I wasn't sure from the post.
Manny, did you catch the bit…
Hi Alex,
I sure did. And I’m glad you took a look at the document, because your paleographical skills are much better than mine! I thought it said “franco gonzales i m.a [ILL] de Ysla su mujer”. But now that I look at it, it clearly says “franco gonzales en n.e (nombre) de Ben[ito] de Ysla su suegro.” Good eye! https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSDL-6S97-7?i=209&cat=…
Now the question is: if this Benito de Isla IS the same who was father of Magdalena de Lavezaris, Maria de Isla, and Maria de Isla mestiza su hija bastada, which son-in-law is he? Is he Francisco Gonzalez, husband of Maria de Isla mestiza? Or is he Francisco Gonzalez Martinez, husband of Magdalena de Lavezaris?
Thanks, Alex!
Abrazos,

Ah it seems my tree is not…
Ah it seems my tree is not so built up on this part of the family. All I have is a Benito de Islas m. unk, father of:
Maria de Islas (mestiza) m. unk mother of Luisa de Islas
Maria de Islas d. 1667 m. Andres Martin Sotomayor
Magdalena de Labesares m. Francisco Gonzalez
Seems I never located/figured out mestiza Maria's husband
Ah it seems my tree is not…
You are right. Looking at my tree, I have it as unsourced. I don’t know where I got that name from - maybe I picked it up in one of the many discussions had in this forum? Whatever the case, I shouldn’t have mentioned it in this thread - please strike it! I do not know if Maria de Isla mestiza hija bastarda de Benito de Isla ever married, only that she had a daughter name Luisa de Islas!
What we know from this record is, this Benito de Isla also had a son-in-law named Francisco Gonzalez, who presented this title in Benito’s name in 1610, telling us that Benito was still alive that year.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing Manny, I…
Thanks for sharing Manny, I've always wondered about the Juana Navarro that Jaime Holcombe mentioned!
I read the last name as …
I read the last name as “aramburun” and not Barburen (Cristobal de Aramburu m Andrea Gonzalez in 1730, #17 of 571).
