María Dionicia de Pedroza
Daniel,
I found a bit more info. about María Dionicia de Pedroza. She was baptized 11 March 1706 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco (Film 0221406 Baptisms 1701-1718 San Juan de los Lagos, Lagos de Moreno, Jal. Mexico). Her parents are listed as Antonio de Pedroza and Rosa María Macías Valadez (aka Rosa María Valadez). María Dionicia had some siblings. I found two sisters, Mariana and María Gertrudis de Pedroza. María Gertrudis married Andres Muñoz de Nava 15 Feb 1727 in Lagos (LDS Film 0221513 Marriages 1720-1740 Santa María de los Lagos, Lagos de Moreno, Jal.). Andrés was a native of Jalos. His parents were Dimas Muñoz de Nava and Thomasa Martín. All this info. from IGI records.
I thought you would like to know. I hope you find out who Nicolás Díaz Tiscareño's parents were. I have an idea but will have to do some more checking.

Mar
Hello Bill, Thanks for this new info. I also found another sister of
Dionicia.
Theresa de la Pedrosa y Valades
Baptized: 26 May 1701 in Lagos de Moreno
I tried different spellings of Pedroza, Pedrosa, Predosa, Predoza, Peredosa
(They all seem as a variation)
I already, know and I have a dead feeling that the Nicolas you and Margie
found (the one born in 1706 is my Nicolas). There arent anyother Nicolas
Diaz de Tiscareno during this period. I just need to prove it. Ill just
order it and should be here in about two weeks since its from the FHL not
the Vault. Usually the vault takes up to 4 weeks max. So in about two weeks,
we will find out the truth. Do you know why they wouldnt put Nicolas'
parents names on IGI?

María Dionicia de Pedroza
Daniel,
You're doing the right thing by ordering the microfilm that includes the
marriage of Nicolás Díaz Tiscareño and María Dionicia de Pedroza. That way
you can find out for sure who their parents were.
Some of the surnames used in Mexico in the 17th and 18th centuries can be
misleading, to say the least. Although most children were given the surname
of the father, there were many cases where they were given the surname of
the mother, the grandparents or even a close relative they admired. For
example, Luis Tiscareño de Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza named two of
their daughters Elvira Marquez and Francisca Gabai. Guess where the names
came from? Elvira Marquez was Luis Tiscareño's mother and Francisca Gabai
was Lorenza's mother. Luis and Lorenza named two of their daughters exactly
as their grandmothers!!! No only the first name, but the surname as well.
This is just an example of something that you'll find quite often. I could
mention many cases like that, but this is the one that jumps to my mind.
There is a strong possibility that your Nicolás Díaz de Tiscareño was the
son
of Joseph Díaz de Tiscareño and Jacinta de Ortega. Joseph was the son of
Diego Díaz de Lomas and Isabel de Tiscareño, so he was better known as
Joseph Díaz de Tiscareño. It is a little more complicated than that, but
that's all I am going to say until you check the parish records. Anyway,
Joseph Díaz de Tiscareño and Jacinta de Ortega had at least two sons,
Nicolás and Joseph Antonio. I believe that this is the Nicolás who married
María Dionicia de Pedroza. I have him in my database as Nicolás Díaz de
Ortega, because of his mother's surname, but he may as well have taken the
compounded surname "Díaz de Tiscareño" from his father. He could be Nicolás
Díaz de Tiscareño y Ortega, for example. Just a theory, something we need
to keep in the back of our heads until you check the film. Let's see what
you find out first.
Not including the names of the parents is a common occurrence in IGI
records.
I know how frustrating that can be, but I find it all the time.
