Hola Ronnie. Yes, I did make that statement. Juan López de Nava married Elvira Tiscareño (aka Elvira Márquez) on 3 Aug 1650. Their marriage record (acta de matrimonio) reads as follows:

"Juo Lopes espanol con elvira marques espanola"

"En tres dias del mes de agosto de mil y seiscientos y cinqta anos caso y velo con mi licencia hallandome no presente el Pe. alonso munos de guerta según orden de la santa madre yglecia en la capilla de la hasienda de luis de tiscareño a Juo. Lopes espanol hijo legitimo de franco. Munos de nava y de maria gonsales vecos. del pueblo de teoqualtiche con elvira marques española hija ligitima de luis de tiscareño y de lorensa rruis de esparsa vesinos de esta Jurisdiccn. Fueron testigos diego vasques de buendia alvaro marin de penalosa y po. de guerta vecos. de esta villa aviendose presidido todas las diligencias que dispone y manda el ssto concilio de trento fue su padrino diego lopes de nava veco. de esta villa y para que conste lo firme"

Two years later, on 3 Sep 1652, his younger brother Andrés married Elvira's sister Luisa Tiscareño. Again, the marriage ceremony took place at the chappel of the Hacienda de San Bartolomé, which is only a few miles from the center of Aguascalientes (I visited there last February). Their marriage record reads as follows:

Where did the surname López come from? I guess from his great-grandmother Beatriz López de Fuenllana.

I should also tell you that their mother María González took her surname from her mother María González de Ruvalcaba, married to Pedro de Huerta y Sánchez, so she was sometimes called María de Huerta or María Sánchez.

In short, the names María González, María Sánchez and María de Huerta were used to refer to the same person, the mother of Juan López de Nava and Andrés López (o Muñoz) de Nava.

Although it seems a bit confusing at first, it actually makes sense after a while. You get used to the unconventional way they used to name their children. It is hell for the genealogist, though.
