Hello everyone, my name is Adrian and I've been a part of this group for over a month now, but just recently had part of my family tree uploaded so I would like to introduce myself to everyone.

The line I am reseraching here is that of my maternal grandfather, with the surname of Montalvo. Aside from the fact that this name is not common, it seems that upon doing a search of the forums for a mention of that name, only a few posts were found and those were of names mixed into the resources of other's.
Well, a history of my family, my great grandfather was Clemente Montalvo, he was from Villanueva, Zacatecas. Although originally I believed he was one of 5 children, I have found the baptism documents of 5 other siblings. His parents were Isabel Montalvo and Maria Huerta. That is where the geneological information on that side of my family ends. I have never been able to find any records of Isabel Montalvo, and the same with Maria Huerta, which as one would imagine is a fairly common name. I have been told one way or another she is related to Victoriano Huerta but I have yet to find her name on that family tree. As for Isabel, I am not sure if he is even from Zacatecas, as the story is told to me by my family is that he was a participant at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 and the subsequent siege the following year. Looking at the list of Mexican regiments which participated at the battle, most came from central Mexico. He could have been in the regular army, but for that information I still need where he was from.

As for the other half of my grandfather's family, thanks to a distant relative I have more information. Clemente Montalvo married Patricia Cabral sometime in the first decade of the 20th century. The Cabral's were from Jerez, Zacatecas. However, her mother was a Rojas and they were from Tepetongo.

I have been helped by other relatives as to some basic information of the Rojas family, such as members of this family made some of the old lamp posts in Jerez. Also, this family line seems to also include Tepetongo but I think originally they came from Jerez in the early part of the 19th century. Aside from that, I haven't found much else.
Since the Rojas name is a bit more prevelent, and it seems that my ancestors did have many siblings, maybe someone out there will find a relation.

I have a 3rd ggrandmother, Juana Romero, who was born about 1834 in Villanueva, according to her marriage record. Her parents were Cornelio Romero and Florencia Montalvo. I tried looking for Juana's baptism record in Villanueva (hoping to find grandparents), with no success so far, although I need to complete a more thorough review.

Yes, I believe you are right in that the last name of Montalvo is uncommon in the area; I am stuck on that line. Perhaps we are distantly related through Florencia. I should try to spend some more time on this line, but I think the records do not go far enough back, and I have not yet determined where any older records would be located for Villanueva.

I had some Montalvos come from Tlatanenango Sanchez Roman, Zac which is nearby.

I think I have come across a Florencia Montalvo, but perhaps I am mistaken. One day I just decided to type in the surname Montalvo in the family search website under the state of Zacatecas and just look through records one by one to see exactly how many Montalvo's there could be.

Anyways, yes lets keep in touch. With such a rare name perhaps it can make it easier to trace a common ancestry.
