Group Help on Methodology Required,
I need to know the correct methodology because for the first time I'm researching surnames that are plentiful: Sepulveda and Morales. And to complicate things, these surnames intermarried alot in the same time periods and locations.
From film research, this is the last thing I am certain of:
Maria Luisa Sepulbeda married Juan Fermin Santelices
02/27/1793 in Dolores Hidalgo, GTO
Her parents are named: Gregorio Sepulbeda and Manuela Morales.
I can't find either definite baptismal entries, so I go their marriage.
I found a Joseph Sepulbeda married Ma Manuela Morales 12/07/1774 in Snta Barbara, Chichuachua.
A Joseph Sepulbeda married Ma Barbara Morales 07/08/1777
in Chichuachua, Chichuachua.
A Valentin Sepulbeda married Ma Eulogia Morales 10/04/1756
in Cuidad Victoria, Tamauliapas.
My immediate reaction was to go with the first couple because it's the best match, but am I correct in assuming this? It didn't specifically mention Gregorio, just Joseph Sepulbeda, but knowing how interchangeable they were with their names, on the other hand, it did have Ma Manuela Morales.
When is enough evidence, enough. Or how would you suggest finding more to support my assumption. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Alice

Strategy
I failed to mention this other good suspect and why I think his full name could have been Joseph Gregorio:
a Josef Gregorio Sepulbeda and Manuela Morales had two children in 1774 and 1776 in Texmelucan, Puebla. I checked the batch number there, and they are the only Sepubeda's that come up. Thanks again, Alice

A quick look at the batch numbers for Hidalgo during the period in question
does not show any other Sepulvedas (Morales, yes, but not Ma Manuela), but
I'm not clear if I'm looking at records for Indios or Castas, as they seem
to be distinct records. I think it would be worth taking a look at the
"Informacion Matrimonial" records, not just the matrimonial ones, to search
for more information. Do you know whether they would have been classifies
as Indios or Castas?
Good luck.
Strategy
I don't know if an index exists for "informacion matrimonial" films. Maybe
someone else does? I'm surprised that the mg film does not indicate where
she or her parents originated. If you are stuck, you may want to request
the one for that period and take a look, just in case there is something
there. Remember to look at the period before the mg occurred. I haven't
successfully accessed one but you may have more luck.

Thanks, Raquel. I've found what I needed--the Family History Library Catalog and an informaciones matrimonial film for 1792-1794 Dolores Hidalgo, GTO. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ma Luisa's father is referred to as Joseph Gregorio Sepulbeda. Thanks again, Alice

Hello Raquel,
The marriage entry of the daughter Maria Luisa Sepulbeda indicates she's an espanola and the groom, Juan Fermin Santelices, is an espanol from Santander, Spain. So, I can only guess that her parents were espanoles.
There's a Ma Manuela Morales married Joseph Sepulveda
12/07/1774 Snta Barbara, Snta Barbara,Chihuahua
It's tempting, because the time is right, and his full name could have been Joseph Gregorio Sepulveda. But that marriage entry says Joseph Sepulbeda and there is no "informacion matrimonial" listed for that time period. So again, only speculation.
Where can I find an index to check if "informacion matrimonial" exists for the daughter, Ma Luisa's, marriage for 1793 Dolores Hidalgo, GTO? Maybe there her father is entered as Joseph or Joseph Gregorio.
That's the only thing I can come up with at this time. Thanks again for your help, Alice

Alice, I am unclear as whether you have looked at the film to see the mg
data. Names are too similar and too often repeated within families to make
any assumptions. But the entry may tell you where each was from and
sometimes notes the ages of the marrying individuals. I would begin there.
Strategy
Raquel,
You're right about too many exact names at the same time.
The other problem is that the same names are not used consistently.
My 5grandmother Ma Luisa Sepulbeda's marriage entry of 02/27/1793, Hidalgo, GTO, names her parents as Gregorio Sepulbeda and Maria Manuela Morales.
I can't find her parents' marriage entry under those exact names, and I can't find Ma Luisa's baptismal entry to check for another name variation for Gregorio. So if I start searching the Juan, Jose, or Manuel Gregorio Sepulbeda's, how will I if I've got the right one?
What strategy would you advise? Thanks for your help, Alice
